fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

check out these three crazy ladies pull in this monster bass:

takes her almost 3 minutes to get the dang thing in! of course, her drag is set so light its no wonder ::) listen closely to the end...she says "thats 20lbs easy...maybe 25" lol i dont think so. i was just glad they released it in the end...looked like she was gonna keep it.
fishing user avatarBassin_Fin@tic reply :

L_O_L I got a buddy I fish with often who tries to land bass just like that.Even if it is a 2lber his drag is screaming while hes winding on 15 lb braid for christ sake! Drives me up a fricken wall! Thanks for sharing...I am now sending this video to my buddy so he can see how ridiculous it is :D

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

haha! my dad is the same way...half the time his drag slips on the freaking hookset!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

"Look how he twisted your line!"

Man, that's a GREAT video and a GREAT bass. I can hardly believe she actually landed that pig!

GREAT POST!

i know! i was suprised too! specially with how light her drag was. :o

fishing user avatarluckyinkentucky reply :

Nothing worse than 2 German women in a boat arguing about "weak line".  I kept thinking, "Shut up already!"   ;D

Then the woman with the camera kept trying to pose the bass.   :)

That was a nice 8 or 9 pounder anyway.   ;)

fishing user avatarNJBassDevil3254 reply :

WOW. Doesnt matter what it weighed. Its a GIANT! I was getting a little annoyed by the stupid drag but I still cant believe how big that fish was! Great post!

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

I'm guessing live shiners, or some other type of similar forage from wherever she is from

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

haha glad you all injoyed this!

i thought it was funny...some point in the video the cameragirl said something along the lines of "oh just grab the blinking fish" or something like that. but she said "blinking fish" i thought that was funny ;D

if you look closely you can see she was using a soft plastic worm of some kind.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Rather have my drag set loose and catch a big one than lose that big one I lost on Lake Gaston when I forgot to double check the drag on my baitcaster and one heck of a bass took off out of the grass with my favorite crankbait and popped the line.

Live and learn!

fishing user avatarJoel W reply :

1st I thought that the fish would expire from a needless long fight, but that was nothing compared to how long they kept it out of the water while holding it and even fighting over it at times.  I was relieved when it finally was back in the water and swam away.

fishing user avatarLightninrod reply :

I believe they are in South Africa.  I think what you are hearing is Afrikaans .

Dan

fishing user avatarFish Man reply :

i believe that wa posted a couple of months ago but man its still funny every time i see it

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

That is one hog, I can't wait until the day I catch one that big.

fishing user avatarJake P reply :

HAWG! that drag was quite annoying though lol. I thought they were gonna keep it at first cuz they had it out of the water for so long. Good thing they released it. Good vid and a GREAT fish.

fishing user avatarfisherdave reply :

That was one awsome bass

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

That fish would be close or over ten...it's as big as her thigh.

fishing user avatarclipper reply :

Anyone notice that the handle was on the right side of that spinning reel?  I wonder if that is normal in their part of the world.  You can bet they watch American bass fishing shows because they gave it a kiss before putting it back in the water.  I also wonder if the lady in the back of the boat was their guide since she lipped the bass and set  up the spinning outfit again after the fish was released.

fishing user avatar=Matt 5.0= reply :

Had to watch it with the volume off. No doubt a BIG PIG tho. Waiting for the day I catch one like that...only been fishing for about 28 years now!  ;D

fishing user avatarMatthys reply :

That proves women can catch monster bass too.Wasnt that 2 women

Nope, they are not in South Africa, there is a comment asking where it was, and the person that posted the video replied it was in Zimbabwe, and yes, they speak Afrikaans.I am Afrikaans too.
fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

a buddy of mine had hooked a large (I dunno... maybe 15 lb) Carp at the local duck pond, on his micro-light, and 4 lb mono. so he starts running around the pond, chasing this Carp. As he's running, he constantly reeling. Problem is, he wasn't gaining any ground. After about 20 minutes, his line breaks, and instantly shoots up into this twisted bird nest.

Years later, I watched an old man fight a big catfish, while making the same mistake (reeling, but not gaining line, while his drag slipped) resulting in the same broken line, and birds nest of twisted mono.

Anyway, I've caught some big fish (100 lb'ers) on spinning gear, and either the fish is taking line, or I'm gaining it..... but never at the same time.

About that video; That should make anyone else feel like a pro ! :-) LOL

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I know you are distinguishing between Zimbabwe being one country, and South Africa being another.....

However, here in the US, a lot of people were taught growing up, about the "continant" of Africa, but not so much about individual coutries within it. I have to admit, when I hear about Africa, I think more often, about the whole continant as well.

Welcome aboard :-)

Peace,

Fish Chris

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

yeah that bugs me when people constantly reel in when it is futile. they need to tighten their drag, play the fish w/ the rod, or stop reeling that d**n handle!

im not sure if that was a guide or not. the way i understood it from the little description to the left was that the grandmother caught the bass, the mother was behind her (the one that lipped the bass) and that the grand daughter was filming.

x2, and I posted the first comment about my buddy because this is a guy who brags when he catches more dinks than me but fights a fish like a 6yr old with with a donald duck zebco. But at least we have fun, thats important.I gave up on teaching him how to land a fish,to each his own. Lol he denied any knowledge of the point I was even tryng to make with the video I sent him  ;D

Don't you mean "Rhodesia"? ;)

I was posting from memory as I didn't re-watch it this time.  I too had seen it some time ago.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

The women did everything wrong; managed to cast a soft plastic creature, detect and hook the bass, then played it incorrectly and put the big bass in the boat. She kept the pressure of the bass, wore it down and landed the fish without loosing it. Yes, she reeled agianst the drag and kept the bass out of the water longer than she could hold her breath and as a result the bass was stressed. However the tail was working, the dorsal fin was extended in a defensive posture and recovered quickly when released without rolling over. I would say the bass looked better than 90% of the C&R photos posted in most magazines and sites. That was a typical how big bass get handled by excited fisherman. The big difference is they didn't put the bass in a live well, so it more than likely will survive the handling.

I would estimate the bass at 10+lbs.

Yes, but remember she was old.Old people are not as agile like young peopleyou know.

fishing user avatarcpr1 reply :

That is about the funniest clip that I've seen in a long time. A little annoying yes, but it was funny to hear arguing going on amongst 3 ladies (snickering like I always do when I hear it during family gatherings). That one click to tightened the drag seem to get the job done. I was expecting a "dink" at the end but was surprised to see a toad. That was a big fish for sure and I felt just as excited from watching the video of their catch.

Another big fish cpr'd.

Cheers!
