Secret spots ??? 2024

First off, I'm not going to ask you where they are :-) Heck, I don't even care what lake they are on. I'm just curious if you guys have any spots which "really are secret"..... Like "nothing looking spots that basically nobody fishes"..... but which somehow you have stumbled across, and now, you stick them there every time you fish it ???

Well, most of my spots are definately community holes, that are fished by everyone and their grandmother. Of course on those spots, I have to try and do everything differently than the crowd, to try and stick the fish that the last 500 guys missed.

However, a couple years ago, I was on one of my favorite lakes, and the fish were just coming up for the spawn. It was flat as glass one morning, so I got out and did my high-speed sightfishing thing.... That is, I used to gas motor to run the shoreline at a fast idol, covering as much water as quickly as I could.

As I went down one long boring looking stretch, I was like, "Whoa ! That was a big bass" ! So, I circle back around and kill the motor. As I sat there for a few minutes, I was like, "There she is... Oh ! There's another ! ... And another" !

To make a long story short, I stuck an 8 and a 9 lb bass right there that day..... and probably more 8 to 10's on that one spot, in the last two years, than any other spot on that lake, that I have ever fished !

I'll tell you one thing, I have never seen another bass fisherman on this spot, period. Let alone throwing a swimbait. Tell you what else, I won't even fish the spot if their is another bass angler within my site.... and if I see / hear one coming (easy when they are driving 20 foot glitter rockets with 200 + hp motors) I put my pole down, and pretend like I'm messing with my t-motor or something :-)

Geeeez, I wonder why this spot is so darn good ? Just never been able to make a connection. Sure would like to have about 5 more spots like this.....

I have a spot on one lake that will normally give up fish.I mostly see everyone else fish right on by it.I caught 2 fish in 2 casts there one time so I slowed down and fished it a litttle more,now even on a slow day it's good for at least breaking the skunk.

As for secret it doesn't have the qualityof fish that your spot does so I really wouldn't be too upset if somebody found it.

I have several spots on Toledo Bend and while they are well known by many anglers they don't fish them correctly. That is to say they never position the boats correctly to effectively fish these spots.

One such example is an island; everyone I've ever seen fishing without fail will head straight to the bank and circle the entire island casting towards the bank. They never look at their depth finders because if they did they would see an underwater point and that is where you want to be. I've won numerous tournaments on this point and it has produced many a DD bass.

I also have a few spots that are directly in the boat lanes and no one ever slows down long enough to check them out; no granted these spots are hard to fish during high boat traffic times so I mainly fish them at night.

My best spots are away from the shore since most bassers pound the bank.

I have 3 deep water cover areas in one lake and when I see another boat I turn and cast toward shore.

Deep cover is where the numbers are in the summer

The spot I Fish is blocked of by a bridge...you have to get boat under very carefully when at fool pool...anyway It's about 15 acres of water with 2 creeks on each end. It has everything from grass to trees and lillies. I've only seen 2 boats back there in the past 8 years. I've caught alot of nice quality fish and believe I could place high in a tourney...which I'm gonna enter in May!

I have some secret spots, but not really on popular lakes. Most of them are small ponds I've found on Google Earth that no one else fishes, either because they don't know they're there, or because there's no boat ramp. A couple bigger ones, in particular, are great fisheries, but a real pain in the butt to access, even in a canoe. You have to drag the canoe through the woods, paddle through a small pond, then drag the canoe through more woods.

Amongst friends, and ethical regulars on my waters, I have no secrets. I've found that when I share good info, I get it in return. I have a lot of waters to available to me and I can't be everywhere, so shared info is valuable.

I'm not a tournament fisher so I don't have competitive needs. I'm more a naturalist that focuses a lot of time on aquatic systems. With the above "shared info" idea in mind, I try to keep my competitive urges (and resulting stinginess) in check.

I do control the information I possess though. I have places, spots, timings, etc... that I may be currently working on and don't want added interference, that I share after I've gleaned what I'm looking for. I don't share specific locations on open on-line forums, or just anyone on the water. I have been burned, but rarely.

I'm pretty open with newbs on the water, if they ask, but usually it's the more important basics, the WHY of a certain pattern or scenario, rather than the specifics like exact location, bait, and retrieve. It's like the adage, "Give a man a fish..." In this case it's more like, "Give a man a fish, he'll tell you what you already know. Teach him the why's and he'll come back and tell you things new to both of you. I really value all the extra eyes and ears on the water.

Me and Zel and a couple of others share info , a lot. But as for some others. Yhe first thing I was able to locate with my depth finder was a sunken tree in 18 ft of water. this has been a great spot especially on over cast afternoons in the summer. A guy who keeps a boat by me was havin a tough day and we told him where this log was. The next time out and a few after this he was with 3 different boats casting to this tree from all directions, even had the nerve to tell one of the boats' Thats the guys who told me about the spot"

As Chance would have it i met him shore fishing for smallies at The Lehigh River at White Haven and I was having a tough time finding smallies. I asked him what he was using he said he dosent give that kind of info up, that it took him too long to figure it out himself CASe CLosed if i don't know you and you arent willing to share,not only will I not give up info i lie and send you on a wild goose chase :

Yeah, I hear you. It sucks to be burned. That's a particularly bad one. That guy lost out more than he gained by being so stingy (that's the nice way of putting it).

Let's say I like to share, but am careful. It SUCKS to be burned.

In my area, we have alot of public water that is "access-challenged". Some of my favorite places to fish require you to portage a boat or canoe a half mile or more to access them. Although these lakes tend to be more about quantity than trophy fish, you get to see alot of nature to make up for it. For larger fish, lakes with limited access work better. These are lakes that get fair fishing pressure which is limited to specific geographic areas. These are usually lakes that don't have easy boat access, but offer some bank fishing. I then portage in my canoe and hit the bass out of reach. I bought a canoe trailer for my mountain bike this winter, so I plan on pushing the limits even further this year.

So my secret is knowing people are lazy and not willing to walk very far to fish (yet alone portage a boat).

A friend took me to his secret spot Saturday. We waded through 100 yrds of 1.5 ft thick mud that was the consistency of yogurt and peanut butter mixed. It is in plain site of the highway. Cars were honking and cheering us and giving us the finger. It was humorous. My friend's only rule was don't respond to the passers by and don't show them your stringer (red fish). If anyone asks you saw thee gators and one was over 10 ft.

I ate good that night.

I have a few that I only fish during tournaments. I have a limited few that I will take there. Usually they don't own a boat or if they do they do not have the GPS cordinates to position themselves correctly if they ever go back.

i dont really have a "secret spot" but i guess the pond i fish could loosely fit the description. its about a 10 acre private pond thats surrounded by a few houses, marsh, and a woods and the only people that have accses to it are the people that live on it and their friends. One spot that always produces fish for us is about 3/4 of the way down the side in the marsh. there is a large tree thats partially sumerged and in the marsh, it makes some pretty good cover to fish

i have several. like you said, none of these stick out and most everyone drives right on by without a second look. all are in relatively deep water. i am going to work on finding some shallower ones this year. i only share my findings w/ about 3 other buddies, b/c they do the same with me. if you fish long at all, particularly if you want to target big bass, you learn a very important lesson. average fishermen pattern the fish. good fishermen pattern both the fish and the other fishermen.

Some of the lakes i fish only have 4-10 parking spots for the public access. So, alot of times, i don't even give up the lake, let alone a spot on the lake. I'm not into being secretive, just want to be able to fish the lake i'm driving to.

I have one hole that I like to dip my worm in that nobody else fishes. Theres another hole I've been trying to get access in for years but the owner won't budge and give permission.

I have several of my favorite spots to fish during a particular tournament series. They are not "secret" but they don't get fished much. I found them while hiding out of the rough wind last year or purposely fishing away from everyone else. I have given these spot away, mostly to other BR guys who have been willing share with me.

Having secret spots is a big part of bass fishing, keeping them a secret is another subject altogether. You can talk about what the presentation is, the lure, the depth, just not the exact location becuase that will happen in time anyway.

My best kept secret spot was called the old folks home, for good reason. Someone finally figure out where it was located and that spot today you can't catch a cold on. However the old folks home is where I once caught a 68+ lb 5 bass limit. I would never volunteer the location of a secret spot.

The stretch of the upper Mississippi I fish gets hammered very hard for most of the season and many people know the good spots. I have one spot that I have only ever seen one other boat fishing and another spot I have never seen another boat fishing. So long as the water level is high enough, there are always Smallies in these spots and also an occasional Walleye and Channel Cat. I have a couple of other spots i'm quite sure hold some Smallies, but due to depth and current, haven't been able to get to them. I have some new ideas about how to do that this year so if they pan out, I'll have some more "secret" spots because no one else fishes these areas effectively either.

I have few secret spots I dont tell many people. But it is more of the technique than the spot IMO.

It would be a stretch to say that I have "secret" lakes, but I do have numerous secret spots (I would imagine that everyone does).

Though far from secret, there are a few under-exploited waters that I hold as personal favorites.

Although I normally spill my guts, there are a few waters and a few hotspots that I hesitate to tout (Is that bad when that happens?)

I have a couple.

I'll even share one. It's in Green/Sullivan Forest in Indiana. It is one of over 120 strip pits. With in 2 miles of it, I can fish for Walleye, Salmon, and Pike. Each are stocked in their own individual pond. I usually catch alot of 5lb+ LM Bass on this pond. The thing is I need about 3 hours of hiking to get to it and my buddies GPS to find it. Good luck.

You know the funny thing... Over the years all of our "secret" spots were probably someone else's at one time or another.. But I actually have been very forthright with alot of people over the years and let many people "in on the spots"... The problem is not everyone fishes them the same way and technique makes for a whole big percentage of the game and we all know it... I can remember a tournament several years back that I fished in the same spot for a couple of days... after the first day, I told everybody who could care to hear where I came up with the leading bag... A couple of people followed me out there and tried fishing them and called me a liar when they didn't catch anything when I pulled up to the locale... To make things funnier than that, as they were leaving I proceeded to catch a beautiful bass right up on my lure... Again, secret spots are great, but technique really goes a long way...
