It's Too Dang Hot! How to fish? 2025

Hey Ya'll,
Out here in Central Florida, temperatures have been constantly brutally hot. Fishing has slowed down tremendously. Been out the last 3 nights and only managed 4 fish. 2 caught on a senko under a bridge and 2 caught on a frog, one being a nice 3.7lber. For a while we were going out and catching 10-20 a day between me and my brother. Any tip[s to try and find these fish in these hot temps. I know deep wanted and under shade but is there a specific bait that might work better than others? Preciate it.

I would fish at night if you can do it without worrying about being snack for a gator.

Yeah, what he said. This is not something I do much, but I can't stand NOT to fish.Around here, what I do is go to ponds about 6:30-7:00 and fish till dark. Most of the good bites come on topwater right before dark. But it's not quite that hot here.

I've been fishing from 4am to about 9am. Sucks getting up that early, but it's better than burning.

It's even hotter with higher humidity down here in South Florida and the fishing has been great for me.Focus on fishing early in the morning, late in the afternoon, on cloudy days,and at nighttime.

I'm just curious I don't know about Florida how hot does it get?

One thing you've got to do (if you haven't already) is get a dedicated sun and extreme heat getup. White or silver loose fitting UV long sleeve and a wide brimmed hat of the same. When it gets hot simply take off the shirt, dunk it in the cooler or lake, wring it out and put it back on. If it's REALLY bad bring a small fan to move the air around you. It's like AC without the walls I swear!
Being uncomfortable can can really throw you off your game bigtime. It sounds like you already know where to find them, so I'd concentrate on mitigating the heat factor and moving forward from there personally.

I always prefer getting to the lake as early as possible and fish 4-5 hours and leave once it starts getting uncomfortably hot!

I live in south Florida and it gets really hot down here too, I try to get out really early like 5 o clock, but usually I just deal with the heat by making sure I have tons of water, a wet rag to put in my hat, and a buff that I drench in water

There are places hotter, but not many more humid! The problem with humidity is that it prevents your body from cooling itself through evaporation. The surrounding air has pretty much all the moisture it can handle. So wet yourself all you want, it won't help much. Being submerged in water will help if the water is cool.

I'm down in Southwest Louisiana & the heat index is 103-105 by 8:30-9:00 am with humidity in the upper 90s!
We get afternoon thunderstorm which brings cooler temperatures but lighting!
Been to south Florida many times & it's the same as here!
If I day fish it's till 10:00 & done or late afternoon or night!

I'm dealing with the dog days of summer here in California as well it's hard to get out there on the lake you have to push yourself to get out of the a/c.

Whats to hot? I woke up to this, but still got 3 hrs on the water. I use an umbrella for shade and drink lots of water.

I don't know how you guys can tolerate that searing heat for 5 months every summer. High humidity is the worst. Its just so uncomfortable and there's no relief unless your inside a room with A/C. Although everything is locked up in ice and snow in the upper Midwest for 5 months so I don't know what's worse, 5 months of searing heat or 5 months of bitter cold.
Fish at night, early AM, late PM, or on overcast/cloudy days. Either that or wait until it cools off in the fall again.

Both are unacceptable! That is why I like San Diego! But the bass fishing here is terrible, so stay away!

Five months of snow is worse. You can't fish for 5 months and you have to talk/listen to your wife for 5 months. LOL

Thanks everyone. All great tips. I will try the morning this weekend and see what the differences are. I like the wet rag and shirt tips as well. I'm new to Florida so still haven't gotten used to the humidity (don't think I ever will), but I really appreciate the tips. Tight Lines

I'm taking being in CA for granted after reading some of these posts. I'd lose my mind if the local reservoirs were frozen over for 5 months out of the year. I've also lived in the midwest/southeast and know how brutal the humidity can get, I'd never go fishing in that 100% humidity unless I was catching fish by the hundreds.

I visited Southern California a couple years ago on vacation, it indeed has great weather.Hopefully the bass fishing remains good in the Delta and surrounding areas when I visit again.

You guys got it rough! Up here in Pennsylvania the hottest it gets to is 90. I don't know about all you guys, but the fishing has only gotten better as the water warms up. Have had a lot of luck throwing buzzbaits near bluegill beds and frogs on thick mats so far

Try fishing in the light rain .. it cools down a lot and the bass tend to get more active.

Yup, that's my routine here in good old Central Florida. I've been on the Harris chain several times over the past week and didn't tear them up but got several fish each time in the 2-3 lb range.

Lol they don't have it that rough bud ! Their fish get huge. I'm in ohio so I know how the bass are in oh , mi , PA . And although they llive longer on average, They get no where near the size . Ive fished in South. Alabama mainly. The heat is rough. But I'd say well worth it.

its been pretty hot here in arkansas, but i've been killing them on the river. the bass group up in areas with high current and more oxygen. try a river.
