Does it net the fish for ya to?

If I paid that much for a map I wouldn't let anyone know. I might get laughed off the boat.

I wasnt thinking for 300 it would net the fish for ya, but it should do something

fishing user avatarBadKarma42 reply :

NOT A CHANCE

fishing user avatarNew 2 Bass reply :

Thats guide money.

fishing user avatarflechero reply :

This reminds me of something I heard a couple years ago... a guide was forced to move due to family issues I think, anyway he was selling copies of his personal marked up map with pages of notes from his years of guiding.

It actually could be worth it....  think about this, if you lived by lake X, would you pay $300 for a guide one day or rather buy a guides map that has 100's of spots and seasonal patterns, notes baits etc.  It could have 20-30 guided days worth of info on it.

We spend hundreds or thousands on other stuff to catch more and bigger fish...

Food for though anyway.  (and no, I don't have one)

fishing user avatarbitman reply :

my sentiments exactly flechero, if you go to texasfishingforum.com there are alot of guys using the toledo bend and sam rayburn versions of the map and love them, iwas just wondering if anyone else used the amistad one yet???

we pay 300 bucks for a reel and dont break a sweat, you ask about a 300 fishing system and they all laught at you, i think its kinda funny, i use my map alot to eliminate water before I ever get to a lake, but call me old fashioned i guess  ;D

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

Good point, Flechero.  If you include all the time and fuel spent to learn all of these hotspots and patterns from scratch, $300 is probably a bargain.  (That is, if the map is truly what they say it is.)

fishing user avatarDesert Bass reply :

These maps might be worth it for lakes like Toledo Bend but this one isn't worth it.  First, it only covers the far east end and doesn't cover the Mexco waters or main lake areas.  Second, the waypoints are the obvious points and coves that any decent fisherman would locate by looking at the ParK Service map for awhile.  Third, there are only a few guides that really know that lake and I don't think they worked on this project.  Fourth, the lake level fluctuates a lot and after a little dryer weather, you can watch the Javelinas feed on those waypoints.  If you want a quick rundown on patterns for the lake you can either adjust for a hydrilla filled lake like Toledo Bend or Rayburn or read my posting on Amistad Lake.  P.S. you can look at the lake in detail and find your own waypoints by using the map feature at   http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/site/KDRT

fishing user avatarbitman reply :

so i take it you have the map desert bass???  ifs its no good can I buy it from you???  please make me an offer i cant refuse.

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

I have a book that is writtten by 10 guides from Fork on Fork.     Each guide covers all 12 months individually.      This book didn't cost 300.00, but is worth the price I paid.      I wouldn't sell it ever.

I have fished Fork religously for 11 years, and I still learn something new all the time, new spots, new tricks, magical stumps that seem to always hold good fish most of the year.

One of my partners, Willie, fished with one of the authors, Willie mentioned to him that he bought the book, and ask him if his inputs were public knowledge, or public holes that every one knows about.

Rick Carter mentioned that in his July chapter, he mentioned 3 spots, and he proceeded to take Willie to all 3.     62 fish later, Rick asked him if he had any doubts on his spots.     Rick proceeded to tell Willie after the day was over, that those first two spots on his list that he was fishing this week have all produced multiple double digit bass this week for Clients.

Willie was repeat customer many times with Rick, and Rick just wanted Willie to catch the double digit bass he has been after.

I would pay 300.00 as long as I know who the contributors are.

Can a person get a copy of that book you have about Fork!  Im planning to start fishing Fork one a year on a fun fish week long vacation style trip!  Would love that book Matt.

fishing user avatarDesert Bass reply :

I haven't got one but I've seen a couple of them bought by women getting ready for the WBT tournament there in a couple of weeks. There should be a few up for sale after the WBT and Elite tournaments. Send me $300 and I'll pick one up for you while I'm down there next month! Just kidding. Honestly, I guess it just comes down to how much time and money you have. It obviously wouldn't hurt anyone to have this kind of information so if you have the money, go for it. Either that or hire one of the reputable guides for a day. Some of us just have too many kids in college to spend $300 on maps. This is starting to look like an advertisement for the maps so I will back out. I don't want to get kicked off this great forum. Good luck and catch a big one!

Danny

When I get home to night, I'll look for a website or number.    Part of the proceeds of this book goes to the Childrens Miracle Network.    Great deal for all.

fishing user avatarTriton21 reply :

Please post it Matt.  I hope I get to see you again at Fork.

Danny

fishing user avatarBD reply :

Matt, did you find it?

I would like to know as well.....we are planning a yearly fork trip.

Thanks

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

The link inside the book showed www.thelakeforkhandbook.com . It isn't coming up. It was published in 2005 and was authored by Doug Moore, a retired guide on Fork.

Will get the phone number from inside cover later today. Also will search other areas for info.

fishing user avatarCaptMikeStarrett reply :

I produced a map series seven years ago with two other fishing guides. Aireal photos from the 70's revealed a lot of structure unknown to most fisherman on the Potomac. Marked it all up with all the best spots and added the 12 months a year report for all three of us. Sold for 10 bucks and we had 6 each 10k runs of it sold.

Would I pay 300 for a marked up map NO but then again I am out of the competive world of tourny fishing..
