If you had to catch 1 bass that day 2024

fishing user avatarfishizzle reply :

Lets say you're in a club tournament or fishing with friends and at 1pm you haven't had a bite all day after emptying your tacklebox.  Its a major cold front and the bass are shut down.  Your friends are fishless too.  You'll be done fishing around 3pm and you need to catch 1 keeper bass.

Make up your own fishing scenario as far as type of lake and bottom structure or cover.

What would you do??

fishing user avatarkms399 reply :

probably a wacky rigged senko fished slow along prime structure. or a drop shot rig.

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

A wacky rigged finesse worm along a major breakline.

fishing user avatarptomacbass reply :

3/4 or 1 ounce football jig in 50 feet of water.

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

LC Flat Mini SR

fishing user avatartoolpush reply :

Beat the heck out of the banks with a spinnerbait. ;D If that didn't work a drag net on the way in. ;)

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Spinnerbait, slow rolled, all over the place.  This worked for a lunker bonus last year, after temps dipped close to the freezing point.  Best wad of cash ever for a 3-2, LOL.

fishing user avatarballhagen reply :

i fish in a club in tennessee and have had this situation come up a couple times.   the way our club works to you have to weigh in one keeper to get points. and there have been days where i did not have a keeper 15 inch largemouth.   but the limit for a kentuck bass or (spot) is only 12 inches.   there is a rock point in a creek that i like to fish that i can go there anytime of the year and usually catch at least one 12 inch spot regardless of the weather. on a shakey head rig.   this is what i do. problem is that i did not find this spot untill half way through the season last year lol

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

You guys fish the same water for every TX.?

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Fly-line a crawler on my micro-light. It might not be a keeper.... heck, it might not even be a bass ! Anything will eat a crawler..... Which is fine, as I'll play with any fish that wants to play with me :-)

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarBig Mike in Fl reply :

probably flip a creature/craw bait into HEAVY cover.

I read somewhere that dead vegetation hold heat, thus holding fish if a front came through. dunno if thats true or not, but its something to consider if in that situation.

fishing user avatarswilly78 reply :

Hand Grenade.....

fishing user avatarHammer 4 reply :

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

Wacky rigged senko or shakey head worm slowly dropped along any irregularities along a deep break, preferably with weeds present.

Start at inside and outside turns and points.

Why the heck not ?  ;-)

Actually, I threw a few live crawlers yesterday.... but both of the two fish I caught, were on artificials. Go figure :-)

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarSMfisher reply :

jig with trailer.

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

Two things have helped me in that senario. Either a spinnerbait or a T-Rigged 4" senko. Last year there were a couple times when I just kept tossing a lipless crankbait to the same place until the fish got aggrivated enough to strike.

fishing user avatarI Love BassResource reply :

Senko or slow rolling a spinner bait, depending on the conditions.

fishing user avatarPitchinkid reply :

Eakins jig w/ GY Flappin Hog dragged, hopped, pitch swam, popped, anything to get bit.

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

You haven't mentioned what time of the year it is, what the water temperature was prior to the cold front, the characteristics of the lake, etc.  etc.  How I would approach it in March would be different than I would in Late June or July or October.  Not trying to be a smart alleck.  Just a lot of variables to look at.

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

leave.

While I don't really concider crawlers "live" bait, like minows, and craws ect..nothing in fishing is a sure thing, but it's fun tryin.. ;D

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarbladeslinger reply :

6" original Culprit worm, crawdad color, lightweight black brass bullet weight, t-rigged on 2/0 gamy hook, smeared in smelly jelly.  Never fails.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

I would be fishing a 1/8oz shaky head with a finesse worm on light line. I would be working very deep structure.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Where: Intersection, spots where two creeks intersect or where a feeder creek intersects with the main river.

Why: the Y created by the intersection are found multiple forms of structure such as channels, points, ridges, ledges, sharp drop-offs, slow tapering drop-offs, and humps all in one location. Plus depths greater than 12' lessens the effects of frontal conditions

With what: my boat will be positioned on the point inside the Y (usually anchored) and casting from shallow to deep with a Texas rigged plastic worm
