I just realized something in light of the post your tackle topic, I brought a box to every tournament I fished and did not use it once! Do you have a box that you bring to your day at the lake but you "usually" dont use?? And why??
Mine is lizards and flukes. Usually carolina rigged a brush hog, and used senkos over flukes. No clue why I bring them I just do.
Yep,it's true I only use about 2% of the tackle I have stored in my boat on each outing. As far as the box I hardly ever open is swimbaits.I just can't get confidence in em',yet.
I have these huge super-sized senko knock-offs that I carry. Got 'em off e-bay and the body is too big, even for a size 5 EWG gammy hook.
This is the tackle I take every time I go fishing but i never use to fish:
Im not sure if this is my tackle or tight end!!!!!!!!1
I usually take one of my bags with me on a tournament, and each bag holds about 7 or 8 3700's plus worm binders. I use maybe 2% on average, but fishing as a non-boater; I need to be prepared to fish anything and everything!
90% of the stuff i take with i dont use at all and i ask myself why do i carry all this stuff around?
Well, there's just some days when you wish you had that stuff with you especially when you left it at home!
Spinnerbait box.
CRANKBAITS...............but I'm really trying to master them, honest. Oh, I guess to learn them you have to use one every now & then, huh?
Ronnie
I bring everything I got. I honestly don't ever really know what I am gonna use for the day when I go fishing. I have a rough idea which is dictated by the conditions. But, if something changes, then I want to have all of my baits on hand so I could switch according to the condition change or the change in the bite. I would hate to be out on the water and not have all my stuff...I would feel unprepared.
Now things I rarely use...spinnerbaits. That's about it.
I used to bring everything and my boat did not have enough space anymore. So I leaned down, Bringing a good verity of lure but not everything. And leaving things home that I know I will not use at the lake/River I will be fishing. Example: If I am going to Lake Erie to fish SM, I know its tube jigs 99.99% maybe a senko, spinnerbaits, or crankbait. but everything else stays home
In my tackle storage locker I have 5-3600 plano and 5 of the falcon boxes. But Last year I got one 3700 box I marked as my "GOTO BOX" and put the lures I use most of the time in that. I use that box 99% of the time. Its usually stays ondeck, then If I need any of the others I look for them
Nope.
I broke free a few years back. 90% of my tackle is in the basement, 10% is on the boat and is replaced as it is used.
I carry on the boat
1lb Ziplock of plastics
small terminal tackle pack
small jig box
small lure box (maybe 10 lures)
I'm with Ronnie. 95% of my billed crankbaits are still in mint condition ;D ;D.I take them with me because they look pretty in the sun. ;D ;D ;D
My main tackle fetish is jerkbaits. I have a box of LC only (128, 100, 78 & Stacey); one box of Smithwick Rogues and a box containing Rapala Husky Jerks and X-Raps. Some of these lures are 7-8 years old. I think I may have used four or five, but the rest are brand new. I'm headed over to the BPS Spring Clasic today...I'm hoping they have a few Slender Pointers on sale...The Bait Monkey told me I need to start building a box of them.
**update**
Pointers are on sale for $11, the Slender Pointers are not included.
I used to have too much tackle for the boat. Now I have paired down quite a bit of it and take my entire selection with me. Thus, I am prepared for everything. Over the coures of the year, I will use each class of bait a few times.

Feel free to bring those on the 3rd,Dink.I'll take care of them for ya! ;D
cranks and spinnerbaits
I used to take way too much tackle with me.
But now I just wait for it to fall overboard. :'(
Jigs and trailers. I don't know why because I have no clue what I'm doing with them. I've tried but never caught anything with them.
I take one bag loaded with about 8 plano 3700's full of all hard baits, and then a big tub with all my soft baits in various zip lock bags, but to finally answer the question ;D, id day 75-80 % of my stuff is not touched per each outing, but i always bring it all for the "just in case" factor

Avid, glad to see that you are not bitter about the loss of your Rod.
Avid, You are a true CHAMPION.
I still bring all my tackle with me. I use all of it every trip. A jonboat is very lightweight, and that tackle helps me to fight the wind. ;D As to what I throw in the water, 10% would be generous.
As a 13 yr. old, I don't have that much tackle. But, I have enough. I have 3 360 boxes in a container with a huge top compartment. It is full of plastics. (I went on a buying spree) Because I am 13, my dad has to take me. But unfortunately, his tight schedule doesn't allow me to go that much. Once a month if I am REEL lucky. Once every 2 1/2 is more like it. So, to make best of my time, I usually just use a T-rigged senko or 3x lizard. Yet I still carry those stupid cranks and jigs, even though I cannot catch anything on them, and the spinners/buzzers even though they only get used in the summer and fall.
Rooster tails!!! I absolutely never use them, but they're in my tackle bag. I guess I carry them because my son likes to use them on ponds. But even when he's not with me I have them....jeez, I need therapy....
Spinnerbaits and Jigs for me.
I don't know why but over the past few years I haven't used these baits that often. I have been using crankbaits and a lot of soft plastic.
I still bring them and try them out. But not that much Jigs, rooster tails and swimbaits.I'm really surprised that so many people had Cranks on there list. It's definatley one of my goto baits but I guess thats fishing.

I just went through my boxes for the third time this winter and removed a grand total of 8 spinnerbaits, 5 hard baits, and a handful of zipper worms. Other than that, everything else gets a free boat ride every time I hit the water. My boat, my storage compartments, my gear 8-)
