Line Cutting Tool? 2025

I am sick and tired of getting "line cutters" that work for a couple of days and then are super dull. These make it to where it's like pulling teeth to get them to cut. Do you guys have any reccomendations for cutters that slice through braid, fluro, and mono like butter and stay that way without getting dull? Thanks!

Hemocuts, trauma scissors or boomerangs are all good things to check out, as depending on what you're looking for one of them will serve your needs adequately without breaking the bank.

Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife. I have a dedicated knife for fishing so that it only cuts line.

Kahara split ring pliers.

Problem is the cutting blade is near joint. Blades are small but replaceable.

The Rapala pliers with carbide cutters did wonders until they somehow made their way into the drink. I use the KVD split ring pliers with braid cutter on them. They made it through a season and are still going strong. I wouldn't say they're the best ever, but I think they were only $7 at walmart so I can't really complain.

I use a small pair of scissors that came with a spool of Sufix 832 braid, and for non-braided lines I use the Baker Comfort Grip Clippers.

I am very interested in seeing the new Splizzors from Buck Knives.

I have a Boomerang and not my favorite. It only cuts on a taught line and I want something that will cut a line with out pulling it taught. The Boomerang is OK but not my favorite. I prefer scissors with serrated blades. I have used fly tying scissors for several years but they do dull after a couple of years. They are also a little expensive.

This year I am trying the new Cuda 3" Scissors. They are stainless steel with a Titanium coating. The coating may be just an advertising gimmick but the scissors are well made for the price. They have big finger holes making them easy to use. If you cut braid near the end of the scissors they will cut slack braid with a perfect clean cut. I haven't had them long but if they last just a year I will be a happy camper at $5.00 per. The serrations are deep and very sharp. The pivot pin is a rivet instead of a screw but I am not sure that is a problem. If they get loose a whack with a hammer will tighten them up. They are available from Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas.

My pliers come with a little pincher. Thats what I use. Cuts everything but braid.

I see them on Amazon. May try them out. I'm just quite relieved $500 was a typo

Ceramic scissors far outlast metallic scissors (stainless steel is quick to lose edge-keenness).

Fishing line is easily severed by swiping the blade across the mono or braid.

The only time I use a scissor-action is to trim a tag-end close to the standing-line.

I have a Boomerang that I found while fishing. I carry it in my bag and use it ocassionally. It works OK. For the past 5 or 6 years I have mainly used a small pair of Fiskars scissors. They work great for braid, mono and flouro.

I've had some where around 8 pairs of braid cutting pliers, each one has had the cutters go bad. Mono cuts just fine with any pliers, for braid I use a lighter. Even when attach a new leader I can trim it real close with lighter, that took a little practice. The lighter puts a bead on the tag line, a little bit of insurance to prevent pull thru.

I've had a pair of Academy H20 aluminum pliers with titanium cutters for 2 seasons now. They still cut braid (and all other lines), like nothing.

I use a Morakniv Companion, highest quality 15 dollar knife on the market, carbon steel. Cuts through wood and flesh (jabbed my hand one day) like butter, do the same to fishing line.

Line cutters, scissors, etc, are just a waste of money

Whatever you end up going with, DO NOT and I mean DO NOT purchase the berkley hot line cutter. I made that mistake. Fool me once Berkley. Absolutely will not cut wet braid. It sinks the heat out of the tip into the water in the line and will not heat up enough to cut. Plus, the replacement tip doesn't even stay in the tool. Absolute garbage.
