Shakey Head Jig Worms 2025

fishing user avatarGfd63 reply :

Some plastic worms float straight up & some lay down on the bottom. Is there really one plastic worm that's the preferred for shakey head jigs or is it personal preference?

fishing user avatarLargies4Life reply :

I would have to say personal preference. Tactical Bassin' came out with an underwater video of their favorite shakey head worms and some of them just look a lot better underwater than others. I personally prefer ones that float as I feel you get a lot more action out of them than the ones that just lay flat on the bottom. But of course, one day the fish might like the floating ones and the next day they might like the ones that don't.

fishing user avatarFishinBuck07 reply :

Like all things fishing, it is all personal preference!

10-4 Thanks for the reply's. Tite lines 2019.

Reins Swamp Mover.  Mostly neutrally buoyant...they fall, but pretty slowly....and wriggle nicely on the way down.

If you have a worm blower, you can make any worm stand up if you want to.  That being said, I think that color is more important than standing straight up.   When I get committed to throwing shakey heads, I lead off with a Zoom trick worm or the Netbait equivalent.  (Several years ago a local tackle store was getting rid of their Netbait collection and I got $75 worth at 50 cents per bag.  Most of them were their version of the Trick worm.

THIS^^^^^^!!!!! I have some Basstrix Locomotion worms, they look awesome in the water and stand straight up. I've caught fish on them but in all honesty non floating worms have produced better results. For finesse worms I use a River Rock Custom Baits SM Killer, deadly on a shaky head anytime the bite is tough. For regular worms on a shaky head I have done well with the Berkley Powerbait Bottom Hopper 6.25" and the Mann's Jelly worm 6". And for large worm shaky head fishing the Berkley 10" Power Worm has been better than the others I've tried. An honorable mention goes to the Mister Twister Tri-Alive 6.5" Nightcrawler, that works as well as the others but I've only used it for a short time but so far it is really good.

fishing user avatarLog Catcher reply :

I usually use Zoom Shaky Head Worms. I have tried using Trick Worms but the fish only nipped at them instead of really going after them. Catch plenty of fish on a Trick Worm Texas rigged.

fishing user avatarFishingGeekTX reply :

I've been using Grande Bass Airtails this year and they are my go-to for worm soft plastic right now (red).  They are nice and thick, fairly short, easily weedless hooked with high hookup through those ribs, and that tail floats like a champ.  Only issue is they are fragile and I feel like I should be melting down the broken ones to re-use or something.

:54 is shaky head, but they all look good.

fishing user avatarcraww reply :

Berkley bottom hopper is what I currently use most-  as resembles my all-time favorite, the discontinued Berkley Shakyhead worm.

I will say, (And I understand I may get run off BR for even saying this lol) that the googan baits slim shake has alot of what I liked about the old powerbait shaky worms (the bigger one)...Almost like someone took some cues from it....The slightly wider than  “half of a pill” shape, the way the segmented sections are shaped, some of the exact same two-tone colors, etc. I really like that bait after limited use.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

All I use are Uptom's 8" and Roboworms 7" straight tails for shaky head jigs. The down side is they are soft, the upside is they work good and I like the colors.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

Personal preference. I don’t fish shakey head often but if I do, this worm first. Strike king KVD finesse worm.

fishing user avatarJoePhish reply :

My personal preference is a Producto 6" Tournament worm.

Roboworm Straight Tail and Fat Straight Tails get some action as well.

fishing user avatarKidflex reply :

If I’m using a true stand up shakey head I like using floating worns like the Berkeley bottom hopper and grande bass air tail. If I’m using football or round heads I’ll just use the zoom trick worm.

fishing user avatarGfd63 reply :

Nice tips. Appreciate all the replies.

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

Great suggestions here however I have to show some love for the Zoom Swamp Crawler used on a 1/8th oz. shakey head ... Add a scent of your liking to tame down the Zoom plastic scent and you have a winner !

I've never had a Berkley PowerBait worm that actually floated... has Berkley changed their formula recently?

The Berkeley havoc series bottom hoppers float. They moved that line to the powerbait series and of course increased the price. Find some regular havoc bottom hoppers

+1 the regular Havoc Bottom Hoppers are a great value and they float - you don't need the power bait version . Just hit them with a little BANG Garlic spray scent and fish on !
