I need a Rage Tail Menace in your blue bug color!

Hey Strike King...
I need you to put quality hooks on your sqaurebill.
Just change out the stock hooks. No biggie. There are very few hardbaits that I don't change out the stock hooks for Mustad Triple Grips.

I disagree. I realize changing hooks is not big deal but a person shouldn't have to feel like they need better hooks on a big name lure straight out of the package.
True, but you could be paying a hang of a lot more for another brand with the same crappy hooks.

I've also never had a stock strike king hook break. I change them out for the short shanks cause I can go 1 size bigger and they are stronger.

I'd rather be able to buy them with no hooks for a little cheaper and put my own on.
I warned my buddy about them and watched him lose 3 fish in the 5-7 pound range the same day because they straightened the stock hooks on his 1.5.
Guarantee you KVD changes out his hooks on his 'signature' baits????
Anyways, love the cranks, cheap, durable, and flat catch fish. Anybody have recommendations for a crank that fishes just like a 1.5 SK with better quality?
I've never had a KVD Squarebills hook break or bend outside of me snagging and pulling very hard to break it free or off. Really don't get the complaint or what people are doing to cause this. Sometimes I think it happened to some people and it eventually made its rounds across the culture and everyone assumes they must change them out.

Count yourself lucky, or maybe you fish with really light gear and/or drag settings. I know many people who haven't been so lucky, myself included. They have upgraded them in recent years to sharper hooks that may be a bit stronger, but I'll never trust them again, I've seen too many fish lost as a direct result of them bending. They're good enough for a lot of people buying them, sure, so they're not that bad, but they're not that good either.

I don't think you can find a better bait for the price with the color selection. The H20 baits are great, but color selection is pretty limited (although I personally don't think you need many colors other than what they offer). Their hooks also aren't the best but the baits are even cheaper so it isn't a big deal

It's true that I fish them on M/MF rods and I do use fairly loose drag with treble baits.

Check out the 6th Sense line of square bills. Next level compared to SK and the paint jobs are Supreme.

I've bent several hooks on decent bass using Strike King square bills.
I got a 6th Sense a while back, not much more expensive, way better quality hooks. I've since sold my SK's and replaced everyone of them with 6th Sense.

What size/brand do you all put on the SK 1.5's?

Thank you sir! I'm going to be changing out all my 1.5's after this weekend. I had several nice fish come unhooked.

I was just on there website and spent nearly an hour just looking through their shallow crankbaits in the 0-6ft range (Their selection is INCREDIBLE). They have a crank for every situation you could possibly come across! I'm definitely going to be picking a handful up before the season starts up here in a couple weeks! Don't even get me started on the paint jobs...
What model 6th Sense crank is comparable to the 1.5 SK?
I'm gonna order some to try. Everybody keeps talking about them ????

The most comparable would be the Crush 50 series either your 50X or 50S (silent). Their website is quite informative, too. Check out their website as they have descriptions for each one and how each crank works through the water and where each one excels per the 6th Sense guys of course.

I mean they offer their baits in clear versions so they can be painted? Doesn't seem like it would be much of a stretch.

Yeah, seriously. Especially if the majority change out the hooks anyway.

I use the same hooks on my 1.5's but I put a 4 on both front and back. What is the thought process about putting a 2 on the front versus the back or vice versa?

Bigger hook means more for them to get a hold of.
It doesn't make business sense to offer them hookless. It's not like it's costing them sales, the "enthusiasts" are buying them and switching hooks, and the casual consumer is buying them as well and using them as is. Setting up a line to produce them, and it's packaging, not to mention the added costs of a new SKU just doesn't make financial sense. Now a "Tour Grade" limited color run with KVD's hooks already on them, with him telling you how he now doesn't have to switch hooks and how it was instrumental in his last tournament win? Now that will work. "They can't stand it!"...

5 and 6 lb plus smallies are freaking crazy strong and have super strong jaws. They also have no trouble choking a 1.5 or a 2.5. So treble hook beef is a priority for me.
