Favourite frogs and colours? 2025

fishing user avatarMatt_3479 reply :

Last weekend I picked up a new frog fishing set up so naturally I have fishing the heck out of it. I’ve been out 6 times this week frog fishing and just having a blast. I got a g.loomis imx pro 884 twfr paired with a chronarch mgl with 50lbs pp. I have a few older spro’s and 1 booyah in my tackle box, and picked up a couple live target frogs as well. Been loving the live targets as my hook up percentage went through the roof. Then I grabbed some jackal kaera frogs on Thursday and once again went up through the roof. Those little kaera frogs are harder to walk, but smaller so the fish just devour them and the hooks are ridiculously sharp.

Whats everyones favorite frog and what colour frog to throw and when?

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

My favorite frogs are the snag proof perfect frogs, ish's poppin phattie and the jackall gavacho. I only use 3 colors nowadays. Chartreuse, white and black. Black in the mornings when it's still dark. Chartreuse any time the water has a stain to it. And white for clearer water situations.

I have tried the booyah both pooper and not, bully wa, snag proof , spro and livetarget and I have to say the livetarget is my favorites. If you compare them all the livetarget is by far the softest and collapses so much easier than the rest. Use the black, emerald brown, and pure white only. Love frog foshing the best out of any top water. I throw them all day and night !

fishing user avatarMatt_3479 reply :

Thank you, I keep hearing how white has worked wonders for everyone but I can’t seem to get bit on the white coloured frogs! Livetarget black with black and blue legs, and Jackall kaera black gill just killed it

I've always had my best luck with any frogs that have a yellow belly.  My best performing Chug Bug also has a yellow belly.

fishing user avatarOnthePotomac reply :

Snag Proof, white or black.

fishing user avatarCroakHunter reply :

Spro king daddy is a giant frog that I like.

fishing user avatarFishin Dad reply :

I have often wondered if a smaller frog would be better to try?  Anyone find this smaller frogs better?

I typically fish the Booyah frog if I am fishing only mats or slop.   I personally have been using and really like a frog/toad with kicking legs ( i.e. Stanley top toad) most of the time.   I find it way more versatile.   Can still use it in the slop but it makes enough commotion on open water, pencil weeds, etc. to get bit there as well.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

I like the KVD frog.

fishing user avatarMatt_3479 reply :

I have heard good things about those snagproof frogs will have to get my hands on them. Going to be picking up more kaera frogs as well

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Spro has been my favorite so far.

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

Strike Kings are decent, I have mostly Spros in my tacklebox. I think they walk more easily, but the last couple have been filling with water much faster. I did just pick up some r2s bully wahs and I like em so far, a little bit cheaper than the Spros. As far as color goes I stick with natural colors, bright green "leopard" like ones, and generally brownish ones work best for me.

fishing user avatarbhoff reply :

Deps Slither K or Buster K. I use them mainly in a white or black color.

fishing user avatarWildbillb reply :

My vote for color is one black and one white.  Maybe something in between.  Fish don't see the top of the bait only the bottom.

fishing user avatarMrFrost reply :

I have SPRO, Booyah, LiveTarget, and KVD.  My confidence color is yellow fading into white on the belly.  I tend to favor the heavier frogs, as I can get them out to farther cover, that don't see a lot of presentations, and it tends to increase the bite for me.

fishing user avatarMatt_3479 reply :

Thank you, I’m going pick up some more spro’s and see if I can try grabbing a few different ones then and give them a go, and I’ll work with the white a little longer. I have fished it 3 times now without any hits on it

fishing user avatarMrFrost reply :

All it will take is one blow up and you'll get more confidence in the white.  Lol.  Its so strange, because I was a very strong believer that the color of my bait mattered more to me than the fish, but frog fishing is my favorite, and if I don't get any bites in a half hour or so, I will tie on a different color and just about always end up with a bite.  It may just be timing and finding the right cover, but it also tends to make me a believer in color mattering more than I used to think.

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

I have gone on a frog collecting spree this summer and have bought the following: Spro King Daddy, R2S Bully Wa 2 (smaller 55 size), Terminator Walking Frog, Spro Popping frog (Natural Green color) and have some Jackall Gavacho's on order. These are being added to the Live Target frogs I already have. Not sure if you can categorize them in with regular style frogs but I also have some Booyah Toadrunner's. I wanted to cover just about every scenario for frogs and I think I've done a decent job. As for colors, after watching the Tactical Bassin' video on frogs Matt Allen says you don't need to get crazy with colors and recommends 3 basic colors that will catch fish in any part of the country you're in: Chartreuse, White and Black in that order. He is of course speaking about the belly color and those are the colors I've tried to collect in each of the frog variations I've listed above (except the Spro popper which I only have 1 of but will eventually get the white and black colors). Now if only I could actually find more time to get out and try them all out that would be great!

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

BPS Kermy, and Booyah Pad Crasher, Black or Black and Blue

fishing user avatarNorthernBasser reply :

Booyah is usually my go-to.

But this summer I've been doing well with the Jackall Gavacho. It's body is sealed better than most, which means water doesn't get in. Only downside is there's no holes near the butt to stick rattles in if you want.

This red color has been great for me.

fishing user avatarDens228 reply :

Chartreuse, white, and black here too.  I've had all Pad Crashers but went to buy some white belly Crashers today and bought a Live Target to try.

That’s my first color, second would be black.

fishing user avatarNorthernBasser reply :

BTW, I hate using any popping frogs in heavy matted vegetation. I reserve those for more open water.

fishing user avatarr83srock reply :

Like everyone I have many different frogs. My favorite and go to are the scum frog trophy in 5/8, white or chartreuse

fishing user avatarMatt_3479 reply :

Thanks everyone! I have been having best luck with black then yellow! Would love to grab a brownish coloured one
