I'm looking to order some new jigs, what's your favorite jig and color and favorite trailer and color ?? Pretty new to jig fishing so looking for help.
there are so many colors and types that are good. water color depth and type of cover im fishing all contribute to what jig im going to throw... I throw all custom made jigs my fishing partner makes. The one I throw most often is a 3/8 ounce football head black and blue jig. I trailer it with a zoom speed craw.. I like it for stain water with a lot of shallow cover. I catch them off rock and wood... on clear lakes I like a green pumpkin or a brownish color... for deep water I throw a 3/4 to a one ounce stand up jig. I trailer my stand up jig with a gary yamamoto psycho dad.
I now use mostly my own hand tied jigs, but I do like the boo-ya boo jig in BLK/BLU 1/4 oz -1/2 oz. Honestly though if I were going to buy jigs from somewhere i would go with Siebert Outdoors or Northstar custom they both have great looking products and the attention to detail is phenomenal, a level of quality not found in mass produced jigs... and the prices are reasonable...

The NorthStar Jigs do look really good. I tie quite a few of my own but use a small brand called Slongs, quite a bit too. My favorite jigs from a Large chain store would be the Hart Justice Jig. I dont see many people talking about it, but its a really quality jig that you can get at a very reasonable price. They have a bunch of "assorted" Hart jigs at my Bass Pro for $1.50. I pick up a few every time I go. They have nice heads, great skirts, and good strong hooks. I would say to give them a shot. I got about 20 Okeechobee Craw jigs last year in that bin. Cant find the color in there anymore, got a bunch of Black and Blue and PB&J this year.
Finesse Jigs: 1/4 oz bitty flip in Geeen Pumpkin and Eakins Finesse in same color. trailers would be Zoom Super Chunk, jr and yum Craw Papi.
Swim jigs: Dirty Jigs 3/8 oz swim jig in Shad colors with small Zoom swimming fluke
Flipping jig: 3/8 or 1/2 oz Arkie head jig in black n blue or natural craw colors with paca chunk trailer
Football jig: 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz Omega in okechobee craw or green pumpkin with SK Rage chunk
Pepper jigs from pepperjigs.com are my favorite by far. I use mostly 1/4 and 3/8 ounce since I fish shallower cover mostly, but I always carry 1/2 ounces as well. I prefer green pumpkin for clear water, and black blue for stained and murky. Brown/orange is also good in clear to moderately stained water. I always try to match the color of my trailer to the jig, and for regular jigs have settled pretty much on two trailers: Rage chunks and paca chunks.
I make my own in several different head styles but I have my color selection down to about a dozen or so that I fish in all situations, everywhere.
If I had to choose one it would be a 1/2oz brush jig in Texas Craw color.
I actually like the arkie jigs from walmart. I have hundreds of bass accounted to those things. BUT, that being said, I would make an order with siebert outdoors. As soon as I need to restock, im going with siebert jigs. I have some of his punch rigs and they are hands down AWESOME
To start out I'd get some 3/8 and 1/2 oz black/blue and green pumpkin jigs ( my favorites being KVD SK swim jigs or Phenix Brent Ehrler jigs) with matching trailers (either Paca craws or Rage craws). Throw them around cover and structure. Vary your retrieve (hop, drag, swim, crawl, stroke, etc.) until you find out what the fish want. Jigs have quickly become my go-to lures because of their versatility.
Take a look at Siebert as they are a sponsor and offer excellent jigs at reasonable prices.
NorthStar was out of business and now back, another site sponsor and favorite.
Jigs are all about what hook is used, head designs are usually the same and skirt materails, how they are tied and customer service separate the good from not so good.
I make my own jigs, so don't have a dog in this hunt.

I'm not sure how anyone can answer your question
without knowing the type of cover you're dealing with
and how you intend to fish this jig (mat-punching, midwater swimming - bottom-hopping ~ ~).

Call Mike at Siebert Outdoors. He will set you up right.
NorthStar also had high quality jigs.
I'm still stocked with a lot of Dirtys from two years ago as I didn't fish as much last year. But my next stock up will be with Mike
Favorite jig is northstar. Great jig at great prices. My favorite color is anything with green in it.
Buckeye Mop Jig in green pumpkin, black/blue and brown with uncle josh pork trailer in winter and netbait mad paca in summer
Arkies cheap and they work
I like my jigs cheap...........because I lose them by the gross, and available locally. So Strike King and Booyah get the nod for me.
Lunker Lures triple rattleback jigs work awesome in plain black or black and blue.
Terry Oldham'' Eye Max & Trailer Hitch
I've been meaning to give Elk River Jigs a try. Huge selection, and made in Oklahoma!
Check out the TNT baits wadda jig.Its an arkie head jig tied with thread and it uses a 4/0 mustad ultrapoint hook. I guarentee it wont bend out. Thats the inly jig i use.
As far as my personal favorites for price and durability I'm a huge fan of dirty jigs for swim jigs, booyah for flippin, and bass patrol for football style. I've never tried Siebert or Northstar but from the reviews on here you probably won't go wrong with either.
Separate question: for those of you who produce your own jigs what would you recommend to someone looking to get into it as a hobby? What brand skirt expander, jig material, banding, basic jig heads, etc? In addition would I need to buy a spray gun to paint the jig heads or can you buy them pre painted? Thanks!
Northstar, Siebert, Dirty, and some custom finesse/hair jigs represents about 99% of what throw.
Eco pro tungsten football jig in either black or green pumpkin. Amazing skirts, and a beefy hook. Also the heads are much smaller than the lead version of the same weight.
I also love war eagle heavy finesse jig. It is great for skipping under docks and has a big enough hook to handle the big fish.
I have had good luck with siebert, warbait swim jigs, outcast RTX jigs, and manns stone jig (this one has a flat nose so its kinda like a shakeyhead with a skirt).
Jigs are going to depend on location, cover, water color/clarity, temperature, and time of day. j
I have really been liking buckeye mop jigs and the booyah jigs from dicks. I don't know the name I just know I got a bunch from dicks and I am thinking they were a "dicks exclusive" for some reason. Also the strike king jig with the tuna hook for deep water. I think it's a hack attack heavy cover jig.
