Commitment To Jigs 2024

fishing user avataronefinalcast reply :

This year I made a commitment to learning to fish with a jig. So I figured that some new jigs were in order and went ahead and bought a handful of new jigs from Siebert Outdoors and Northstar Custom Baits. Just thought I'd share with y'all. I'm hoping to catch some hawgs with 'em!

If ya gonna buy jig then buy jigs!

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Right there with you brother.

I have stocked up on Siebert jigs and I've devoted this season to getting better.

I've already caught some nice ones on a custom frog-colored jig Mike made me.

This summer shall be known as "The Summer of Jig"

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Good stuff dude.

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

so true........... I am hoping to get over to the roadtrip to pick up my small order of jigs, it's 3 dozen all in the same color.

I carry jigs by the gross in my boat!

good luck in your jig fishing!

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

You have a wide range of colors to choose from, good luck.

Tom

fishing user avatarLazz reply :

Wow....that looks So nice...In the same boat... Only one fish so far but my best this season...5.33lb on a 1/2 blacknblue. I am so addicted to jigs right now. First three outings I only fished a jig to force myself to start learning. So Worth it...

fishing user avatarmnbassman23 reply :

Nice selection of jigs you got. I see your from WI, that New Gill Flip and Swim will tear those fish up. By far my top producer here in MN.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Making THE commitment to jig fishing is the Single Best decision a bass angler can make.

If you truly do it - you will be rewarded with a serious improvement in Big Bass.

I'd wish you good Luck, but when fishing jigs, you don't really need it.

A-Jay

fishing user avataronefinalcast reply :

Wow all this positive feedback has me crazy excited to use them. Unfortunately tomorrow is opening day here in WI but I won't be able to fish it...

But I will fish the heck out of my new jigs in my new Kayak next week!! Hope both turn out to be a good experience but for now I must contain my excitement...and keep wishing that tomorrow my girlfriend will still buy me a new fishfinder.

fishing user avatarNice_Bass reply :

Dont be afraid to lose them/invest in pocket knockers.

My biggest issue these days is a boat full of rods and lures and I pull out two jig rods first every time and everywhere.

fishing user avatarFlipnLimits reply :

I spy a perfect selection!  Must admit, some of those jigs look fantastic, haven't fished with Siebert jigs before.

I may be wrong, but the proprietor of Siebert posts here?

I tired to start with a good base of jigs. For colors green pumpkin, black/blue, and brown craw seemed like good coverage colors. Then for each color I got arky style and football style heads in 1/2 and 3/8 sizes.

In a one to one hands on comparison the only way I could tell the two brands apart was by the hook types. Otherwise the quality of the skirts and jig heads are both similar and of good quality.

What are pocket knockers?

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

I was wondering what a pocket knocker is as well....I am sure I will consider buying it even if I have no clue what it does, but I think it may be a type of lure retriever? Jigs are getting expensive so I can see it being possible.

How are the Siebert jigs?  I keep hearing about them and That box of jigs just looked awesome and the colors all have a high quality natural look to them and skirts that come alive when wet. I finally learned to fish a jig last year after a friend forced me to use it all day and kept telling me from the first cast that I needed to learn to flip and cast as quiet as possible and to only shake or move your jig if you were concentrating 100%. I realized that if I could get the jig to land right on target and then glide under the weeds/brush without a crash landing, my line would start moving to one side super quickly as the fish were feeding like crazy and it was easily a top 10 trip when it comes to action and overall quality...So glad I was with someone who was able to put me on fish, coach me up and every time we moved 20 yards down the shoreline it was another 2-3lb fish and confidence never goes away. If I struggle on a jig, I usually am working it too much, not shaking and resting, or I am using to light or heavy and sink rate is not right.

Alot of people I talk to and fish with avoid the jig and I know it is lack of confidence as I used to fear jigs. I still never use a jig without a blade as a swim jig, because when I was yound and would try a jig, I would only get random strikes while reeling it in like a spinnerbait. Anyone can do that, and maybe I am missing something, but is a swim jig without a Blade worth casting and reeling as sole intention???

easy ,effective lure retriever and cheap.  Comes in packs of 3.  I may lose one for every 20 jigs I am able to retrieve.

fishing user avatarnickjames1310 reply :

I have tons of jigs but never fish them. I don't know when or how to fish them or with or without trailers maybe someone can explain a bit for me?

Do you fish a T-rig worm? Make a cast, let the jig fall on controlled slack line while watching and feeling the line for any indications of movement. The jig hits the bottom, shake the rod tip a few times, reel up the slack line, lift the rod upwards than stop and let the jig fall back to the bottom while watching and feeling the like for any strikes. If you see the line jumps, move or a tick, quickly reel the slack line in a set the hook.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Jigs are without a doubt the simplest bait that is the hardest to learn. So similar to fishing plastics yet completely different. Stick with it and put the time in and it will be well worth it! I took me a full season of fishing almost nothing else to really start to feel like I had the hang of fishing them, a good rod and reel helps a lot too. Now I build my own and carry hundreds in the boat of all different styles (not many different colors though) and they are without a doubt my favorite bait to fish. Good luck!

fishing user avatarMccallister25 reply :

If I could only fish with one lure for the rest of my life it would be a jig. I started my obsession last summer, and havent gone back. Im not sure if youve caught any bass on a jig, but its very addicting. Sometimes they'll knock em, and something you wont feel anything. I love it. Wait till you have one take your jig and start running at you!!

fishing user avataronefinalcast reply :

Thanks for the continued positive responses guys. I prepped all my gear today for the week and have a jig tied on all ready to go. I don't have a jig rod yet but also plan to get one as well (Powell Endurance 714) and pair it up with the new Curado I later this spring/summer. Also I will definitely pick up a few of those pocket knockers, they might be useful for crankbaits and stuff too on top of jigs.

p.s. I got the fishfinder!! :respect-059:

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

Nice collection!!  Thank you!

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I'm a long way from 'commitment', but I have thrown jigs a fairly high percentage of casts this year.  Confidence is extremely low at this point, however, as I haven't seen/felt/noticed one certain hit yet.  Sure, I could have missed 50 hits, but my enthusiasm is waning.

fishing user avataronefinalcast reply :

No bites on the jig today, and lost a perfectly good new jig because line lashed midair and the jig flew off and away.. Better luck next time though!

I wish I caught more lures on jigs. I'm just not very successful at it.

You'll love jigs when you start catching on them!  They are my #1 bass catcher.

aint a whole lots else to say about that, except: siebertoutdoors.com

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

buy yourself a plano FTO/Elite spinnerbait box, stick the head of the jig in the slot like a spinnerbait. I think they show it different than i do it. I wedge the head on one side of the separation and the skirt on the other side. Its the best setup i have found.

fishing user avatarJohn F. reply :

I need to get off the fence and start using the jigs I bought. Senkos stopped working in my canal a few weeks ago, maybe a jig will. My biggest issue is all the hair algae (slop) where I have been fishing. Guess I need to figure that out or fish elsewhere.

Thanks for the tips and inspiration.

fishing user avataronefinalcast reply :

Awesome pics of the bass swallowing those jigs!

Anyway been out only once this week and still haven't had any luck on the jigs but I keep throwin' em anyway. Hopefully soon I'll get a bite. Maybe if the weather stops acting up.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

Compare Seibert price and quality to any jigs on market and it will beat it in both categories. The different options and colors is ridiculous...I'm sure the number of combos possible is in the tens of thousands if not higher.
