Berkley Chigger Craw Vs Strike King Rage Tail Craw 2025

fishing user avatarDane Morris reply :

Hey guys, I am about to make a big Tackle Warehouse purchase and I was debating between getting the Berkley Chigger Craw vs the Strike King Rage Tail Craw. I have heard good reviews from both and I wanted to here your opinion. I know this site is probably biased towards rage tail but I would really appreciate your honest opinion. If you guys have any color recommendations I would appreciate that as well as I am mainly having success with just black w/ red flake. Also, has anyone had success with the Yum Christie Craw????

Thanks so much guys!

-Dane. Tight Lines!

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

Chigger and rage are my two favorite craw baits, both as trailers and texas rigs, and I use them both all the time They have different actions; the chigger craw claws sort of undulate, while the rage claws have a powerful, rhythmic kick. This makes rage craws fall more slowly; you can slow down a heavy jig's fall quite a bit with a rage craw trailer. Chigger craws are made of powerbait which bass definitely seem to hold on to longer than other materials.  Both unfortunately have some durability issues and are prone to having claws ripped off, but I accept that as the cost of being attractive enough for fish to strike.

I love both and need both in my boat at all times.  You can't go wrong with either but I would highly recommend buying both!

Caught a few on the Zoom Speed craw yesterday.  Watermelon, black flake.  Texposed, D-shot, short tag, split shot.

fishing user avatarNathan Burton reply :

I prefer the rage tail.

fishing user avatarGetBent reply :

Both work. Both are inexpensive. I say get both. Hello my name is GetaBent and I'm addicted to tackle.

fishing user avatarEvan K reply :

I had trouble with the chigger craw arms getting stuck to each other and not swimming right. I like the rage craws quite well.

Get them both! A pack each in black/blue, black/red, green pumpkin, and watermelon!

...

I'm so sorry.  Apparently the Bait Monkey is "speaking through me" tonight.  Please ignore.

I prefer the NetBait Paca Craw over the Berkley Chigger Craw for a slower action craw. I like the Strike King Rage Tail Craw when I want a faster action.

I would go with black/blue, green pumpkin, and watermelon

NetBait Paca Craw is worth noting. Couldn't agree more.

What different situations would you wanna fish a slower craw vs a faster craw?

Thanks

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Very different actions, which is why I carry both.

Really?  Never had that happen and can't imagine that once it's in the water.  I'll keep an eye on it...

The Chigger craw claws have mold runners that hold them together, you need to break the runners to seperate them so the claws swim independently.

Chigger Craws come in fewer colors and 3" or 4" size,  Rage Tail craws have more size choices and wide range of colors choices.

I only use green pumpkin Chggers craws in both 3" & 4" and Rage Tail 4" in 2 brighter colors.

Where I fish the Chigger Craw produces larger size bass on average.

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

Both really good, I love the 3" chigger in the cinnamon purple color, I use them alot, the Rage Craw causes more vibration and both will work, I like both, I love Strike King Baits because they work, but I do believe that Powerbait scent really helps, I just feel like they have not kept up with companies when it comes to new ideas and baits, I feel like many of the newer baits seem Gimmicky like that Frog, and I feel like the Thief was just a dud...The lighting bug is good but too expensive, I guess they put more design into the Havoc line these days?

Other than Power Worms, Chigger Craws, I can't think of any other baits that get mentioned any more...Berkley was the only name I knew for a Decade and I never looked at Culprit worms once Power Worms came out....Now I appreciate the culprit...

If you want to go huge, get some 5" Chigger Craws, they are always on clearance somewhere, they are huge like the Tiki Wave Lobster, If you want big bites only, it scares off most fish under 3lbs...I only use them when it is hot and I need to drag the bottom and kill time, so why not hope a Giant sees that Giant Craw which must intimidate fish since bluegills wont peck at it and back away...

TW has the Gambler Ugly Otter on sale for $2.99...That is a fantastic flipping bait, it has paddles which give it a diferent action and pushes water, it is a killer bait and comes in about 20 colors all really good......

TW also has a few other great deals right now....Man fishing is unhealthy for my wallet....

In reality, the 2 baits you have compliment each other nicely, Maybe get a bait that glides a bit on the fall, The Rage products are all good, I just go to best selling items and buy from that page and usually I then look around for a few odd baits I have never seen but I would grab $3 Gambler baits while you can...People now throw the newer baits so the original John Crews punchin baits like the BB Cricket and 3" Otter are not used as much since he now has Missile so people leave them on the shelves..Not sure why, I would imagine he still uses the Cricket all the time, Missle has nothing similar and he cleaned up with that bait, but that is my rant....Missle is good as well but I lose claws and pieces after every cast...Just my take....

Just about any time the bite is slow.

I also use the slower action paca craws flipping since it a reaction not a presentation that is getting the strike in most cases. And these slide through nasty cover very good.

And clear or light stained water where lifelike visual presentation is more likely the meal of the day vs a non visual bite like one based on water displacement or noise.

Faster action craws would be the opposite situations for me.

Berkley did have a buy 5 get $10 rebate going at some point. If it's still going I would pick up some chigger craws and whatever other power bait lures you use. Check tackle warehouse and Berkley-fishing.com to see if it's still going. I know I used both rebates when DSG had 5 for $15 in store sale awhile back which made for a great buy!

Academy sports just listed most of the Powerbait line on sale at $3 a bag... They ship for free over $25.

FWIW I've been using the Chigger Craw and the Rage Craw, I love the Rage Craw but, lately the Missile Baits D Bomb has been getting most of my bites. Although I doubt I'll ever stop fishing the Rage Craw, I have been impressed with the D Bomb.

Killed them on the Yum Christie craw friday.  Great action and worked well in very stained water.

I am firmly in the Chigger craw camp, in fact I will take a Paca Craw over the rage craw too.

I like some Rage tail baits, but the other craws produce more and better fish for me.........

fishing user avatarbowhunter63 reply :

Gotta go with Rage,Never lets me down.

fishing user avatarTanner English reply :

Can't go wrong with a rage craw... All the action looks like a rabbit frog underwater. The Christie craw is a great swimming jig trailer or a shakey head plastic

Structure bug as a third option. Also like kietech crazy flapper. Sorry I didn't follow rules. Also like that funky space monkey.
