economy braided line 2025

Hi, I have been using Power Pro braid for a year and would rate it as good/fair. I have seen a lot of braided line in 300 yd spool or larger in 15lb, 20lb and 30lb that are priced much lower on auction sights. Did not mind buying and putting higher priced line on my freshwater reels as I would put 75 yds or less on them over backing. I will now be spooling a lot of saltwater reels that I will need to put 150 to 250yds on to have enough running line. Brand advice would be greatly appreciated as well as other braid opinions. Fairly new to the community and would like to thank ya'll in advanced for the great info on this sight

Beware, some of the line that you see on auction sites is counterfeit and may be real junk.

What caused you to rate Power Pro as only fair? Most braids are pretty similar. Some are 4 strands, some 8, some have the fibers fused instead of braided, but in most cases are actually the same fibers. I’d be careful about buying cheap line from an auction site.

I've used nothing but Power Pro on my single baitcaster for years, never had an issue. With two baitcasters going into this next season, I'm again using PP on both of them. It casts well for me and is less expensive than other braids...a necessity as I have a limited fishing budget.

Your going to be pretty hard pressed to find better for less $$, and even some stuff costing more is not as good.

There are better braided lines, but they often come with much much higher price tags, and IMHO are not proportionally better compared to the price.

Daiwa j-braid x4 is a really nice cheap braid. If you want to go super cheap kastking makes an ok braid for not a lot of money.

Ebay is the best place to get both of them.

I have no idea why bass anglers like Power Pro braid line, it's colors run, it fray's easily and is higher priced. Power Pro advertises a lot and the reason It's a well known brand.

Check TW under braid line, they usually run sales on nearly all brands.

There isn't a braided line made that holds it's color. They all fade. The fraying isn't much of a problem either. It doesn't lose much strength. Fireline is just as bad and I've been using it happily for years. No line is perfect. You just have to decide which of the shortcomings you can live with, and which you can't. I can't live with lines that stretch, so I put up with the issues braided line has.

I'm a fan of Super8 Slick by Power Pro. You can get it on sale for $12-13 for a 150yd spool. Seems like a good deal to me because it lasts a long time, and then when the free end is done flip it around and use the spool end for a while.

FINS PRT braid holds it's color and hasn't faded or frayed in the 25 years I have been using the same spooled 50 lb green line.

I prefer 4 carrier braids like power pro.

Lately I have been using KastKing Kastpro which is nearly the same line as power pro, but cheaper.

The kastpro does not seem to fade as fast as power pro.

I am not familiar with Daiwa j-braid x4 but have recently read a couple posts praising it. Sufix Performance is a good braid for the money. I like it better than Original PowerPro. Quite a bit quieter thru the guides. Fades to a whitish-green, but fish don't seem to mind. I ordered some Fins after previously reading a couple posts by WRB. Only used the 60# Original PRT so far...on my frog rod I keep in Florida. Have some 45# 40G and 10# (I think) Windtamer to try. Fins has a few on clearance right now. Maybe you could find what you are looking for at a great price. 30# Original PRT Hot Orange in 150 yd. spool is $8.90...normal price $17.80.

I use KastKing Super Power braid on a lot of combos and it works just fine for me. 547 yard spools for $20 on the bay lets me spool several of my guide combos off one spool for cheap.

I used Godline last year and will be continuing this year. The stuff is good and very reasonably priced. I also use it in the salt too.

My big gripe with SuperPower is the diameter is larger than PP or X4. Their 30 is the size of my X4 50. It's not a huge deal, but the color runs like a race car too...my thumb was stained for days after the first outing with it. Saying that, for $4 I'll keep buying it.

I have tried both name brand and "non" name brand braids, not all of course, but my opinion is that some of the "nons" tend to tangle more than the name brands, some tend to fray more, some are thicker. You never know what you're getting with them until you use them.

On the other hand, Power Pro is good, Suffix is good (everything Suffix is good), and I'm sure many other name brands are good. They have their brands to protect, so it's doubtful you'll get a lemon with them.

A new one I just found is Hitena. 21 pound test is only .oo6 dia and it casts like Power Pro 10 pound test. Pricey, but excellent. Maybe you generally get what you pay for?

I've found an overall good "economy" braid is the KastKing Super Power braid. It actually performs better than I thought it would for the cost. Color doesn't bleed, it doesn't start to fray early, easy to cast, etc.

I'm pretty impressed with it.

Sufix 832 isn't bad and runs about $4 a spool cheaper than Power Pro and there are often rebates if you buy two spools. With that said, I still like Power Pro but the Sufix is the best bang for the buck.

I think it must depend on the color. I use the pink a lot and was using a reel with it yesterday and noticed how pink it still was after being on the reel for several months. I also think I might use the grey instead of the green (they look really similar in the pictures), and maybe it doesn't bleed as bad. Like you said though, $4 for a spool with free shipping, a little color bleed isn't going to bug me.

I've used Power pro and KastKing but I've switched to Goture (Ebay) 8 strand and have been very impressed. Low cost, casts well, almost no wind knots. The color does fade but they all do. IMHO I did not like KastKing due to wind knots and tendency to bite in the spool.

I use 832 on all my braid combos in either white or green, only problem is the green fades which isn't a big deal IMO. The new Powerpro super slick v2 looks tempting tho, especially that onyx color

Cabelas RipCord is on clearance at very low prices. It will fade, but is reliable line.

It's not terrible, but their green bleeds bad in my experience. Gray isn't bad, but I haven't used it as much either. Maybe I'll spool up a couple more reels with their stuff. For the price, it's really decent line.

The gray is a really good color. It definitely bleeds less than their green. I need some more braid, so I may order some more of theirs...who knows?

Another vote for kastking. I use the super power 4 strand braid in yellow, 10lbs for spinning and 30 pound for casting. Decent color retention, a little thick but not too bad. For the price it's hard to beat.
