Has anyone actually seen a 50th Anniversary Ranger Icon, other than pictures or online? I'm waiting for my local dealer to get one in the shop so I can check it out and find out exactly what is included on this boat to make it worth $100K
have seen one............I don't see 100 grand in my future for a boat. and no I can't wrap my brain around the price.it gives me a headache........ nice boat though.
not worth 100k....

Absolutely nothing makes this boat worth $100k or most other boats worth what they're asking!
It's a nice boat, but I don't like the color of it.
Mine wasn't far off that $100k price tag. The price of everything continues to go up, not come down...
I wonder how much it actually costs to build one.

The prices are high, I agree.
Rangers are what all other bass boats are compared to, just like all rods are compared to G. Loomis'.

It's rare that I disagree with Catt....But go price similar model Basscats and Rangers, price difference won't be as big as you might think. Basscats are one of the more expensive brands out there, I was recently shopping for a boat and priced them, I couldn't afford them.
Brand wars never end well lol....But having said that, Skeeter or go home!
On the topic of how expensive everything is...There are lots of more affordable options out there, but a 20' or 21' glass rig with a 250 and all the accessories is not going to be one of them. Aluminum or mid-sized glass boats are pretty affordable comparatively, at least in my opinion.

I'm on Cabelas website, and I can see where I can just casually add the Ranger z521 to my cart for the price of $100,899.
I found this 2018 Ranger Z521L Icon bass boat 50 anniversary.

1. Hold it's resale value.... ????
They both will get you out on the water... As will a Triton, Skeeter, and a two man plastic boat.
Difference comes down to quality of materials used, resale value, warranty/company backing their product, patented designs (pultruded transom) etc etc.

People still drive Fords?? ????
On 8/18/2018 at 10:15 PM, DINK WHISPERER said:People still drive Fords?? ????
Yes people still drive Fords. They are needed to get the broke down Chevys off the road and to the repair shop.
Another thing to consider is how many more accessories we are throwing on bass boats now and the cost of these high-tech accessories. Even just 10 years ago the 'standard' accessories were just a fraction of what they are now. On the Icon I see the following for main accessories:
Carbon16 3D: ~$5,000
Carbon12: ~$3,000
Ultrex 112 Link: ~$2,800
Hydraulic Jackplate: ~$2,000
Power Pole 8' Blades w/mounts (x2): ~$5,000
So you're looking at approximately $17,800 in retail costs for just those main electronics/accessories. Now throw in all the other odds and ends that come on the Icon (like stereo, digital gauges, extra console, etc, etc, etc) which will add up to a good amount on their own. Outboard's are also pretty dang expensive these days...250HP outboard run $20,000+. Tandem trailers are $6,000+....Probably more for the tricked out ones.
In this example I'm laying out, you've got about $44,000 in costs BEFORE you even talk about the boat itself. As bass fishing has gone high-tech, the costs are going up. You obviously don't NEED all this stuff but when looking at modern top of the line 20' or 21' models with all the accessories you should't be too surprised at the prices given all the extra stuff put into them now.

All of the above, plus the new more powerful graphs use a lot more energy and a lot of guys are adding an additional battery or two so they don't drain the starting battery. If you're using lithium batteries, there's up to another $5,000. There's lot of guys out there who can afford these boats or they wouldn't be selling them. Here's my biggest gripe. A guy has a $100K boat and a $65K truck and he complains about gas being too expensive.

Yep. I have (2) Solix 15's, Ultrex 112, hydraulic jackplate, digital gauges, Humminbird 360, and the G2. Out of the $86k I paid for mine, $32k of it is in the items I just mentioned. So that leaves around $54k for the hull and trailer.

Yep, and why can they "charge a little more just because of their name"? Because they've built a quality product and have stood the test of time. In doing so, the Ranger name has become synonymous with quality.
Yeah, I thought it was a good answer too...
Again, they hold their value so well because why? Not because they're low quality and built poorly, but the exact opposite....
It's not just a coincidence that there are 3 times as many guys in Rangers vs Bass Cats on the B.A.S.S. Elite Series........
And I'd be willing to bet if there was a survey done by bass fisherman across the country of "what the number one bass boat is", Ranger Boats would be at the top of the list.

Were it not for all the R&D input done by professional fishermen, and the heavy heavy promotion, the prices wouldn't be so high. There are less expensive options for both boats, and their accessories. Many non professional anglers, especially the younger ones, fall into the mindset "If I don't buy the best of the best, I'll never make it past mediocre as an angler" Same reason if I spend $300 on a pair of Air Jordans, they will make me a better basketball player than a pair of $50 sneakers.
Back to the original topic. Ranger's name means quality. It's earned its reputation in both the bass and multi-species market. If someone wants to, and has the means to pay $100k for a bass boat, more power to them.

Agree 100% on both counts. I was just pointing out that the accessories are expensive and more numerous now than they were in the past...And that contributes to the higher costs, especially on a boat that is the peak of the top of the line models.

Accessories can still be had cheap. A basic color 2d graph can be had for a couple hundred bucks. One does not need $10K in graphs on his boat...But it sure is a nice addition. I saw a guy in a bay boat earlier this year who had a graph on his center console that could also play movies for the kids. I'd never own one but it sure is a neat idea.

Once again I agree, but this particular boat does have ~$10k in electronics along with other high dollar items...Hence the high price tag...I was just relating to the original topic.
I know all about not needing the most expensive stuff to compete and succeed...I started tournament fishing in a 17' Tracker with 1 cheap greyscale sonar and no GPS. My latest boat is pretty dang nice but is still not on the level as these top flight rigs like the Icon.
And yet we have not even talked about insurance. For those who tournament fish I understand you must have it, others its a unnecessary but reassuring item. It must be more expensive for a boat that is $100k if boat insurance is anything like car insurance. What say you about this?

I too know about not "needing" the most expensive stuff to succeed...
My first rig back when I was in high school.... 1989 Ford Festiva (4 speed manual V4) w/ two man plastic Basstender without a depthfinder! My depthfinder back then was sticking the rod in the water and seeing if I could touch bottom!!!

I wouldn't, but the option is available.
5-1/2 years ago I dropped some serious coin on a Lund Predator 2010, side imaging, Talon etc. Many said I was foolish spending big money on an aluminum boat. For what the Ranger Icon costs, I could have bought 2 boats and hooked the trailers up with the finest KIA wheels around. That's 40'4" of boats, 450hp in motors, and 8 chromed out KIA spinners

Nope that reasoning doesn't make sense... B.A.S.S. has allowed boat brands other than Ranger for over 20 years now, it's not like they just lifted that rule 3-5 years ago.....
As far as hull and performance, Ranger is #1 in safety/floatation, #1 in smooth & dry ride and #1 in longevity/durability in their hull and again #1 in resale value.
Now, is it the #1 "go fast" boat, no. If your main focus in a bass boat is speed, then you need to be in the sport of boat racing, not fishing....

The rule was in effect for less time than it's not been in effect..... Giving other brands over 20 years to "bounce back" from the "unfair advantage".
Yes operator input contributes to a dry ride some, but hull design contributes to it as well.
I see a lot more older Rangers still out there than any other brand
Ranger probably is #1 in price, but you get what you pay for. As mentioned above by someone else, other name brand boats aren't far behind in price when similarly equipped.

And it just has 9" graphs!!! LOL
You add two Lowrance 16's or two Humminbird Solix 15's and you're getting close to the Icon price..... (The Icon comes STANDARD with a 16"/15" graph at the console and a 12" graph at the bow btw).
I have always been a Ranger loyalist and currently own an 08 Z520 and and old 393v but will not buy another new one. I have seen too many cut corners and shoddy work on Trackers and Nitros. Producing a quality product is a culture within a company and I don't believe Johnny Morris fosters that. Just my opinion.

On 8/21/2018 at 2:04 AM, DINK WHISPERER said:Well I think this pretty much settles it! ????
LOL, nope it doesn't settle anything because the sport isn't boat racing... Yeah, ok the Bass Cat is 2.4 mph or whatever faster.... big whoop, so I get to the same spot 30 seconds to 1 minute later.
Every fiberglass bass boat between 20' - 21' with a 250 on it will do 65-80 mph. It's not like a Bass Cat does 150 mph and a Ranger only does 30 mph?!?!
I don't understand the guys that constantly swap out props, etc just to gain one to three mph?!?!? Call me old at the age of 36, but I could care less about going over 70 mph on the water even though my boat will do it. I have 35 hours on my G2 now and I haven't even had it over 35 mph yet... Occasionally I run my boats WOT just to do it for a second to get them to breath a little or if I'm trying to out run a storm or get to the bank quick to take a dump. Otherwise, I cruise right along at my G2's optimal cruising speed of 30-33mph @ 3k rpms.
As I said in my earlier post.... : " Now, is it the #1 "go fast" boat, no. If your main focus in a BASS boat is speed, then you need to be in the sport of boat racing, not fishing...."
If you care about a go fast boat, pick up boat racing and get a boat like the Jason Quinn look a like in this video below.....

A friend of mine bought a 522D last year. I'm not at all impressed with the glass work. The way it looks, I wouldn't have accepted it on a $2k truck cap let alone an $80k+ boat. It's pretty, but when you look closely, there are ripples in the finish.
@18RangerZ520L speed does not even enter the equation as for as I'm concerned!
Speed is a guy thing...put a motor on anything & somebody gonna hop it up!
The biggest advancement in technology in the last 40 yrs for me & the waters I fish was boats-n-motors.
When manufacturers hit 18'+ boats & 90-150+ hp outboards it opened up a whole world of areas I could fish in a single day.

And if Ranger's are so "over priced", what are your thoughts about this almost $84k Bass Cat I posted earlier?
So this $83,996 Bass Cat is reasonably priced.......?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

And it just has 9" graphs!!! LOL
You add two Lowrance 16's or two Humminbird Solix 15's and you're getting close to the Icon price..... (The Icon comes STANDARD with a 16"/15" graph at the console and a 12" graph at the bow btw).

There is no law that states that you have to have insurance on your boat, unlike your car. That is what I meant about that statement.

I know that! ????
There was a time back in my prime I ran 90+. mph bass boats. Now I got a wife, 6 kids, 14 grandkids, daughter-in-laws, & son-in-laws.

And still no response to the 3rd time I've mentioned the beyond absurd, over priced $84k Bass Cat?!?! ????
At least Ranger "earned the right" to charge what they do. Look's like Bass Cats are right up there in price with the Ranger's judging by that $84k one I posted earlier with 9" graphs... ????
You'll probably say that $84k Bass Cat is a "good buy" / worth the $84k....????????????
I'm done with this thread...
Ranger is #1.... ????

100k for Ranger - 84k Bass Cat
That's 16k difference
When upgrading electronics you only add the difference in cost between the units.
Earned the right?
It's called Capitalism ????

Duh, I know that you only add the difference... Give me some credit here......
So that $16k difference is more like a $12-$13k difference, which roughly puts the top of the line Icon Ranger roughly 13% higher price than the Bass Cat. A 13% price difference is a FAR cry from being given the term "over priced", and everyone is freaking out about the price tag of the Icon Ranger when all the other boat brands aren't too far behind.
Bass Cat was founded in 1971, so their 50th anniversary is coming up in 2021.... Let's see if they do something similar to Ranger and have a 50th year "mack daddy" Bass Cat model come out. I'd be willing to bet it will be at or above the $100k mark if they are already at $84k in 2018. And yes it's 2.5 years from now and new electronics, etc will be out and cost more than the current models, but it's close enough in age that it can be fairly compared to the cost of the 50th Anniversary Icon from Ranger.
Someone will have to resurrect this thread 2.5 years from now and see if my prediction comes true........
Now I'm done with this thread.....
I thought you were done with this thread like yesterday? You done done now? ????
