Does this machine have a vacuum port for canistrs?

Answer: Yes it does you must take the vacuum cylinder and open it up it comes in two pieces the top piece where the hose is attached has a nipple that fits on the canisters

is this machine capable of sealing jars and canisters?

Answer: No, it cannot seal the jars.

Answer: Yes, the hand sealer pulls apart at the middle and the hose side connects to the mason jar/canister sealer.

I am having trouble using the bag cutter. Is there any trick?

Answer: It should work fine if you are using FoodSaver bags.

Answer: Number one don’t lock it down number to make sure the levers clear over to one side or the other mainly on the right to the left

What kind of canisters can be used?

Answer: I have the old model as well and I use the canisters that I brought for it.So all the older ones will work for sure, I hope this helped.

Why did the price of this sealer go up $5.00 within the last 15 minutes I was looking at it?

Answer: You will need the Foodsaver brand bags.

Answer: Yes you can, and should. Foodsaver bags aren't very good, but are very expensive. Take a look at cabela's house brand, excellent and pretty inexpensive when they have a sale. There are many alternatives, that's just the one I like.

What is the width of the sealing surface? In other words, how wide is the seal on the bag, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” ?

Answer: I measured the width of a recent seal -- it measured just under 1/8" wide, extending off both edges of the bag/roll material. The seals have been entirely suitable for all of my purposes.

Anyone have problems reinserting the cord for the handheld vacuum?

Answer: Yes,it come's out easy enough,but getting it all the way back in is tough,i have to jiggle and push and finally i get it back in enough to reattach the hand held vacuum. My concern is the hose cracking open by all the jiggalling to get it back in. I guess time will tell.

Answer: It should retract on its own, as it is spring loaded like a car’s seatbelt. Try pulling it out again and releasing it to automatically recoil.

Answer: Yes, I do believe it’s just the color difference. I have searched for other possible differences but was unable.

Can you seal bags with liquids inside?

Answer: Yes you can,you might have to elevate the machine to avoid spills.

Answer: Never had it quit on me yet.So I don’t really know.

Haven’t used it much but it does have good suction and seals well. Anxious to see how it does with marinades, AND how easy/difficult to clean up.
Works well.
And I have been trying double bagging because I lost meats to frostbite due to holes from being moved, thrown and banged around with other frozen packages. An experiment in progress.

Have used Foodsaver products for many years. Selected this product to replace an older one that died as it fit my needs and countertop space.

Sorry to say that when it arrived the nozzle that connects the wide mouth mason jar sealer was bent. Despite being careful it soon broke off rendering this function totally useless. Such a waste. How do I get a refund?

I’ve had this unit for a few months now and it continues to work well. I bought it primarily to prepare steaks and meals to be cooked in a Sous Vide machine. By using the FoodSaver I have been able to make more room in my freezer, by removing the air in packaging [which extends the expiration date on food and prevents freezer burn]. I appreciate the smaller size of the FoodSaver VS-3180 and the ease of its use.

This unit does not have a lot of suction power. Always leaves air in bag.
Only seals part of bag.
Seal a bag and within minutes the bag is full of air.
I would not recommend this vacuum sealer to anyone

This product did not perform the same for me as the reviews. I had one box of tomatoes to freeze and it was terrible. I cannot recommend. I hate it when the reviews don't really match the product. There is also little support for this product and there is no troubleshooting guide either online or by phone,
