Basically zero instruction about herbs. How do you "chop chives" and not have them fall through the racks?? How about basil? Put the whole sprig?
Answer: Chives are small enough to dry whole then cut to size with a kitchen scissor. Also, there are silicone mesh tray inserts that can be cut to fit. I bought some for my trays and love them. Mine are about 1/2 inch too big for my trays but the mesh is so flexable that the extra fabric goes up the sides a little, which means I can spread food all the way th the edges without small bits going under the mesh.
Answer: I LOVE this dehydrator and hope to do herbs too eventually. For things that are small, since they don't have a fruit leather tray for this particular dehydrator, I just cut parchment paper for each tray. It was super easy and once everything is dry, you can pretty much just fold them in half and put them in a Ziploc bag to keep them away from any dust, and reuse them. For my first time buying a dehydrator and having no experience with them, this one has been PERFECT for me and now I want a bigger one. :)

Answer: No, that is a different process. Dehydrated food is only 80% of moisture removed from food. I think freeze dry is like 95%. I would look for a product that says “Freeze dries”

It took a while for this to ship so I borrowed a friend's dehydrator in the meantime. I ran both side by side when this arrived. If there is a fan on this, it pushes NO air so the base of the unit got super hot - so hot that I was worried it would damage my counter top - but none of that hot air made it up to the top tray. This unit is also SMALL. I fit less than half the fruit per tray on this one as I did on my friends old NESCO unit. Even worse, I wasted money on cut-to-fit tray liners that I of course couldn't return. This defective unit was a big disappointment.

(See update at the end): The fan seems to be making a loud rattling sound as if it is hitting something every time it makes a rotation. When the power is turned off, the frequency of the tattling slows down as the speed of the rotation of the fan slows down. Is this normal? The rattling sound is loud enough to be quite annoying. Update: I know you are not supposed to do this, but I took the unit apart and found a wire rubbing against the fan. I tucked the wire away from the fan, and now it is very quiet. Had to use a tri-wing screwdriver to remove two of the screws. Now I like it as long as it stays that way. It is small, but it makes up for it with so many trays.

some people said it was tiny but thats the reason i ordered. being square, and small, its easy to store away. it fits well beside my mini rice cooker and mini air fryer.
i used it back to back for 3 days. no burnt smell. i did keep a watch over it just to be sure. it does heat up a bit but im sure all other dehydrators do. i does not however make the room hot at all. good to use during the summer :)
i dehydrated pineapples and made zucchini gummies. based on the recipe book, use 158 degrees for 6-8 hours.

This is a smaller dehydrator (about the size of a four-slice toaster) with five trays. I grow my own herbs and this is perfect for that. I also use for fruit and produce. I like the timer and temperature control functions. It’s quiet and perfect for my needs. Doing two quarts of strawberries now!

Isaac : Brittle trays buyer be gentle
This thing is doing the job for the most part. I have only made beef jerky with it. I’ve cut it multiple thicknesses but about 1/6” thick is pretty much perfect at top temp for 6 hrs. Jerky comes off easily without oil. Also, the trays are easy to clean by hand.
The only downside is the plastic is brittle as can be. I dropped a tray today…… MAYBE a foot off of my counter and it broke. Like a one inch peice is missing- not happy. But I guess that’s what you get from Amazon. If it wasn’t so brittle this would be hands down a 5 star review

I bought this a few months ago to give it a try, and overall I'm really happy with it.
This is from a point of view of someone who is both fairly new to dehydrating, and who has only been making jerky and dried fruits. So I can't promise this will be as good for herbs or other things.
Pros
Cost is fairly cheap.
Trays fit two ways so if you need a little more gap between the tray layers you can get that.
Trays are dishwasher safe (you can clean them by hand but it is a pain)
The book that it comes with is a great base for knowing dehydrating times / temps depending on if you're doing jerky, herbs, fruits, etc.
Controls are easy

The base is not easy to clean, despite the claims of the manufacturer. It will get messy and get messy fast because the drippings. And this is the only reason I'm dropping a star because it specifically claims it is easy to clean up when it isn't.
You are going to get dripping on the base and its going to get messy if you don't have mats for it (not sure if these are even available to easily fit this)
Overall, if you're new to dehydrating and want to try some jerky or fruits, and don't want a huge upfront cost to see if its for you, I'd say give this a shot. I'm under no impression that this will last for years and I'll likely have to get a replacement eventually, but so far I've gotten a lot of bang for my buck.
This is from a point of view of someone who is both fairly new to dehydrating, and who has only been making jerky and dried fruits. So I can't promise this will be as good for herbs or other things.
Pros
Cost is fairly cheap.
Trays fit two ways so if you need a little more gap between the tray layers you can get that.
Trays are dishwasher safe (you can clean them by hand but it is a pain)
The book that it comes with is a great base for knowing dehydrating times / temps depending on if you're doing jerky, herbs, fruits, etc.

The base is not easy to clean, despite the claims of the manufacturer. It will get messy and get messy fast because the drippings. And this is the only reason I'm dropping a star because it specifically claims it is easy to clean up when it isn't.

Poseidon : Easy to use
I am very happy to buy this dried fruit machine. easy to use. I use it to make my favorite dried mango. The effect is good. I can adjust it to my favorite temperature. I turned on the maximum temperature, about 5 hours. Very suitable for making all kinds of dried fruits, highly recommended!

Ive been drying 3 bananas worth of chips for 8 hours in at the max temp 158°F and they are still rubbery.

first time i used it, the recommended time and tempature was relatively accurate.

second use (week later), exact same peppers took 18hours to dehydrate.
third batch took 23hrs.
i'm on my fourth use and it has been 26 hours. should be done soon.

Helen C. : plastic trays appear to melt into the food
I was excited to use my dehydrator to make banana chips.... cleaned all the trays before use, used suggested temp and time in the booklet provided, the banana 'chips' were stuck to the trays, and when dislodged had plastic stuck to them. ALL of them. In the trash they go.... not sure I want plastic in my food, so.... not sure if I'll use this again and can't return it used. Disappointing!

I PURCHASED THIS ITEM TO MAKE JERKY . THE ONLY CONS THAT I HAVE AGAINST THE PRODUCT IS THAT THERE IS NO TIMER WHICH CLEARLY SHOWS HOW LONG THE MEAT WILL COOK OR HAS TO COOK . OVER ALL I JUST DECIDED TO KEEP IT COOKING FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS AND THE JERKY WAS PERFECT . UPDATE I HAVE ONLY USED THIS ONCE SINCE I BOUGHT IT BACK IN JUNE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE . It was cleaned and placed back in the box after use . Today 9/21/21 I took it out to use had my product all cut up and placed on the racks and it doesn’t heat fan not working do not but this product wish I had used it against before my warranty was over ! Waste of $60
Mom of 2 : Delicious Beef Jerky
I have never used a dehydrator before, this one is very easy to use. I used one of the recipes in the book that comes with the dehydrator, came out perfect. The trays fit more than I was expecting. I am very impressed with it. Can’t wait to try another recipe!!
