Would this work for making freeze dried fruit crisps or more just dried fruits?
Answer: Yes I also use mine to dehydrate vegetables and spices that I put together to make instant soup for camping trips or quick meals at home

Answer: As long as the garage is in a dry location, I don't see why it couldn't. For what it is worth, I have dried beef, ham, chicken, apples, and bananas on the counter right in our kitchen. I've never noticed any odors at all. Although, our dogs might because every time they see me set up the dehydrator, they park themselves in front of it watching and waiting for me to pull out their favorite dried doggie hugs.
Answer: As long as you have an outlet it shouldn’t be a problem. I wouldn’t leave it outside overnight but an enclosed area like a garage should be fine.
Answer: I don't know why not. You should be able to. The only concern I would have is the temperature in your garage. If it's too cold, the heating element may have to work harder.

I like everything about this dehydrator. It takes about 9 to 10 hours at 140F or 149F to dry apple and pear slices to perfection. My wife likes the dried yams (pre-cooked), zucchini, and carrots. We don't coat the food with anything, just slice and dehydrate. This is a snap to clean-up and store. I am happy with this item, shipping, etc. I wish I had opted for the model with more than 5 trays. If you want a dehydrator, this is the one for you.

We have 2 dehydrators using this one. This one can not maintain its heat and takes twice as long to get the food dehydrated. Because it dehydrated so slowly, the food is chewy, not crispy as desired....even when the heat is all the way up

KT : Trays Not Easy to Fit
I was attracted to this item because the trays could be set two ways to reduce the total profile when the item is stored. Unfortunately, the trays are not clearly marked (or at least I didn't see any markings) on which way they need to go to fit into each other. Also, they must all fit in the same way. That is, if you want wider spacing all trays must be set to wider spacing and the same for narrower spacing. This means you cannot put a tray in the narrower direction on top of a tray that is set for wider spacing. Major pain to constantly flip and rotate trays to see how it is going to fit on the tray below.
The item was nosier than I anticipated but I wouldn't give low marks for that. I found that some things can dry faster in my oven set to low with the door propped open. I dry my cinnamon sugar apples on sheet trays on top of parchment papers this way and clean-up was a breeze. Because of the sugar, everything stuck to the trays even with parchment paper on top and it was a mess on the bottom. Because it was sugar it was easy enough to clean with enough water and patience to scrub at the sugar.

I purchased this dehydrator to make treats for my dogs. I've practically used it every day since it arrived. It seems to start dehydrating really quickly, better than others I've had. I have it in my garage because I can't stand the smell of liver in my house but haven't had any problems with it out there. (except for flies getting in it. lol) The machine is compact and fits perfectly in a small area. I've dehydrated, Liver, Tilapia, Salmon, Chicken, Chicken hearts and Beef- perfect treats every time!

I've foraged for wild mushrooms for decades and for much of my harvest, I use a dehydrator for preservation. I know a good dehydrator when I use it, and this is the worst dehydrator I've ever used.
I needed 2 important features, plenty of space between the racks for clearance, and an adjustable temperature setting. The first major problem with this machine is that when you use the larger rack spacing all of the hot air escapes out the sides before it ever reaches the top trays. There's a heavy 1/16" overlap between trays, and it's not a snug fit. After loading all of the trays, there isn't a detectable draft coming from the top vent, but I can feel plenty of heat coming from the sides. The second major problem with this machine is that the fan is BY FAR the weakest on any machine that I've ever used. Without convection, that only leaves heat to dry items. My 15 year old American Harvest Snackmaster dries a load almost twice as fast at the exact same temperature setting.
I suppose this machine works for certain applications, but I suspect that the people giving 5 stars have never used any other dehydrator in their life. Keep shopping. This isn't the machine you want.

Comes with 7 racks, looks like a nice machine. Disappointed in the amount of power of it as the Lower racks cook faster than top ones. Also takes about 3 to 4 hours longer to cook beer jerky in this machine than my nesco American harvest machine. As you can see from my picture I have to swap the racks so all my jerky can cook every other couple of hours.
