So, first off love the product. However, this product is not for wade fishermen or kayakers who will use it in salt water. If it'll be on a boat or used in fresh water then you'll love it.

P. Smetana : Lasted a year in salt water, never cleaned it.

Buying another one! I got one of these a year ago as part of a combo with pliers/line cutter tool. I've used this in Florida ocean salt water probably 100 times, maybe more, and have never even rinsed them off. Today they finally wore out. For $11 I don't mind buying a new one every year.
Keep in mind, this was a whole year and more than 1000 hours of salt, but the tape measure finally rusted because the paint flaked off, and the grip stopped holding fish lips because the closer spring just got weak. They still work, but you have to push on the thing to close them when it's covered in sand. The scale never failed. In fact I pulled on the scale today as hard as I could and found it completely caked with sea salt. I brushed the salt off the heaviest line and the writing is still like new. 4 stars because most 5 star reviews aren't honest. This is really great for the price of a handful of boiled peanuts!

RW : Rusted out after 3 weeks

Used for only 3 weeks and tape measure part completely rusted out. Since it’s for fishing and will get wet this is unacceptable. Tried to return it but was 2 weeks past Amazon’s return period.
