Questions about Savour Sous Vide Cooking Bags (18 Count Combo Size), Reusable, Fast and Simple, Leak Proof, No Vacuum Sealer Required, No BPA/BPS
Q:
If I wanted to, can I still use it with my vacuum sealer instead of using the snorkel?
Answer: You could-but there’s no need to as this ziplock super tight and you wouldn’t need to vacuum seal
Answer: You can try and see if the type of material they use will work. The snorkel is awesome and hasn't failed me yet.
Answer: No, it's reusable, so it has a zip lock.
Answer: The two connections would need to fit.
Q:
Can you cook brown rice?
Answer: Technically you can cook brown rice with sous vide, and these bags will handle it with ease. Cook at 180-185F and it may take several hours.
Q:
Can these be used with flameless MRE heaters?
Answer: Yes they can. MRE heaters do not reach temperatures that are higher than 212F or 100C. Our bags can sustain those temperatures without trouble. Keep in mind that those heaters are not very big and may not heat up the contents of a bag as large as even our quart sized bags. Thanks for the question. SSV.
Q:
Can it be used in an instant pot?
Answer: Yes! The quart size is perfect for InstantPot.
Q:
Can you fit a ribeye roast? Do you have bigger bags?
Answer: We have gallon size bags and quart size bags. The gallon size bags actually hold about 1 1/2 gallons. You could probably fit a 4-5 lb roast depending on the shape. Hope you sous vide an amazing dinner! Thanks for your question.
Q:
made in?
Answer: Our bags are constructed and designed in the USA and we are a US company. There is one component of the bag that is unavoidably sourced outside the US. Thanks for the question and happy cooking!
Answer: The bags and packaging are designed and constructed in the USA, and we are a US company. There is one component that is manufactured outside the USA.
Answer: If you mean where they are manufactured... it is in Texas. Otherwise they were baked ina water bath in the oven at a low temp.
Answer: made by RGP Horizons LLC in McKinney, Texas. 75070
Q:
What are these bags made out of and are there independent studies you can link which indicate they don't leach bpa/bps into food?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Savour bags are free of BPA and BPS and will not leach anything harmful during cooking. That is stated on their website.
Q:
Thoughts on using these for camping? Prepare foods, freeze them, then no mess at the campsite, simply immerse to thaw and warm to eating temperature?
Answer: Never thought about using for camper that’s a great idea. However, I found these bags very awkward to use and was unable to purge the air out by immersing like they say and couldn’t get them to seal properly. I returned them and use food saver bags instead
Answer: Savour? Camping?...The answer is YES! Our bags are great for camping because they are strong and reusable. Cook ahead in the bag and then take it camping. Happy cooking, happy camping.
Answer: I wondered the same, I called the company and they said you can add boiling water to the bag to reheat/ hydrate prepared meals. I hope this helps!
Q:
1.Can you use the bags to poach food in simmering water? 2.The recipe generates steam in the bag. Will the bags hold the steam generated in the bag?
Answer: Hi, thanks for the question. Yes, poaching in the bag will work fine. Typically simmering water is around 185F, which is perfect. This temp should not generate steam pressure in the bag. If you use the bag in boiling water (which is still fine) just be sure to vent it occasionally so it does not float out of the water. Happy cooking! SSV
Q:
I'm looking for bags to take backpacking. I'll preload with oatmeal, then add boiling water on the trail and let soak for five minutes or so. OK?
Answer: Absolutely! We are outdoors people too and use the product for all kinds of applications outside. After pre-loading with oats or rice or pasta, seal the closure, squeeze out all the air and put the cap on. It stays small and tight in the backpack, and will not leak, fail or spill when you add the hot water. We even use the bags to "squeeze pack" bulky clothing to save space. Since they are reusable they can be used for the entire trip. Enjoy! - Bob at SSV
Answer: It is easier, cheaper, and lighter to use a freezer ziploc. A standard (non freezer) will probably work too. You can even pour 2/3 of the HOT water before it boils into the bag to start the soak and pour the last third after it boils to get to the temp and consistency you want.
Q:
How many times can the bags be reused?
Answer: Thanks for the question. There is no set number of times that the bags can be reused. If they dont puncture they will last over a dozen cooks. The primary reasons they fail are punctures from sharp bones and the closure leaking. Punctures are more common with bone in pork or lamb chop bones. Contamination of the closure can happen with spice powders or hard water deposits from washing in a dishwasher. If treated well they can last for many cooks, which reduces plastic waste.
Answer: Cooking at higher temps for longer times increases the chances it will leak. They may last a long time depending on how you cook. I've had a brand new bag leak the first time so I've thrown these bags away and switched to a vacuum sealer so I don't have to worry.
Q:
Can you use them in a 18 quart roaster?
Answer: Hi there! The bags would be fine in a roaster as long as it is filled with water. Use caution however to be sure the temperature is controlled well. Roasters do not usually have precise enough temperature control to cook sous vide, especially for long cooks. Thanks for your question.
Answer: Yes, you are able to use these bags in any container that holds your Sous Vide.
Q:
In one response you say use in boiling water is ok, in another you say you do not recommend it. Can I safely immerse a bag in boiling water?
Answer: I have these bags and would not put them in boiling water. As a matter specifically of safety, I am not sure, and I guess safety could mean a couple of different things. They don't seem strong enough to withstand boiling water, and I'm not confident in the sealing mechanism for it to hold in boiling water. Could the plastic of the bag leech into the food? I don't know.
Answer: The water used in Sous Vide is not up to the boiling point (212 degrees.) Most Sous Vide recipes call for up to 175 degrees or less. I’ve only used the bags to Sous Vide, so no idea what they would do at higher temps.
Answer: Ive found that some of the bags was breaking if the water was way to hot, so I have found that if the water stays at a god 145 degrees then you will be good. So get your water to a simmer and you will be ok, boiling water will break down the bag and it could bust.
Answer: The film and components of the bag can be boiled without damage or melting, etc. Happy cooking!
Q:
Do the bags comply with the lfgb standard in addition to the fda standard already mentioned?
Answer: Sorry for the delay to your question. The bags are made with EPA-approved materials. However, we have not had the materials tested for LFGB certification.
Q:
savor sous cooker,where to buy?
Answer: I ordered the Sous vide cooker from Amazon. We love ours. The bags mentioned hear we don't use. They are not as easy to use. I will link the Sous vide that we purchased the Tribest (I believe is the name)
Answer: Many sous vide cookers for sale right here on Amazon! Thanks for your quesiton.
Q:
Should you put it on the top rack of your dishwasher or is down below OK? Don't want bag to melt.
Answer: Hi. Great question. The bag is designed to handle any dishwasher temperature. So it doesn’t really matter. Personally we put ours on the bottom shelf. Your mileage may vary though. Sometimes the pins in the upper shelf hold the bag better. Whatever works best for you. Just know that the temp will not determine where you put you bag. Happy cooking!
Answer: If you turn off heat drying, both racks are safe. I've been afraid bags would melt with heat drying, especially on the bottom rack.
Answer: I wouldn't trust it to the dishwasher at all. They are flimsy bags that don't close as smoothly or as reliably as a standard major brand zip bag. I don't recommend a purchase. Use regular zip bags instead.
Answer: Top rack seems to work fine. Probably less heat as well as less chance of it being thrown around by water pressure. Savour is excellent in answering questions, offering advice, and might have a better answer.
Answer: I’ve not used my bags yet..
Q:
How long will they last, how many times can a bag be used before replacing it?
Answer: Debra, I have cooked as many as 9 boneless skinless chicken breasts, 3 to a bag and then moved them to sealed Rubbermaid containers. I used th same bag I cooked them in a second time saving the juices in the bag refrigerated and then reheated the chicken in the sous vide along with roasted veggies. The flavor with the veggies and chicken was awesome. I was able to have quick meals from leftover chicken and leftover roasted veggies for not only lunches, but also dinners. Keep in mind though I only reheated food in the original bags just once before tossing the bags.
Q:
Are these safe to use in boiling water for cooking?
Answer: Technically the material in the bags is approved for boiling water temperature. Boiling is significantly higher than typical sous vide temperatures. Since our bags are water and airtight, please be careful that the bag does not pressurize if you do. Generally we do not recommend using them in boiling water.
Q:
are the bags phthalate free?
Answer: Hi Lisa. Yes. The bags are free from phthalates, BPS, BPS and other leachable compounds. They are FDA approved for food contact across all conditions you could encounter cooking in them. Happy cooking!
Q:
Bpas are not the only dangerous chemicals that can leach out of plastic containers. have these bags been tested and certified not to contain any eas?
Answer: Hi Paul and thank you for the question. We use only film that is FDA approved across a range of conditions broader the usage conditions in sous vide specifically. For example, the bags can be used with alcohol, dairy and boiling water conditions. By design, BPA or BPS is not used in our bags.
Q:
Can you hook up the snorkel to a vacuum pump to suck more air out and more of an internal vacuum?
Answer: Hi. While it is possible to hook a vac sealer hose to the fitting on the bag, you do not need to to use any tools to use the bags. The the water-tight closure and water pressure from the bath alone will squeeze out enough air to sous vide with excellent results. Vac sealers suck up any marinade or liquid in the bag, and they smash delicate foods. No need to buy or use one with Savour. Thanks for your question. Bob
Answer: You could use a vacuum pump but I'm not sure it is necessary. You still have to remove the straw/snorkel without losing much vacuum to put the cap on the bag to seal it up.
Q:
can you boil food in these bags
Answer: Yes. They are able to withstand boiling temperatures without any damage or melting. Please use caution if you add the bag to water and it starts to expand and float. It may just be air inside expanding which can be released by re-venting. Enjoy your cooking!!
Answer: Sous vide temperatures are much lower than boiling water (212 degrees.) I’ve only ever used them to sous vide, but the packaging specifies they are for sous vide temperatures, so I imagine they aren’t suitable for a boiling pot of water. The company that makes them is very helpful and responds quickly to questions if you want to make sure.
Product reviews of Savour Sous Vide Cooking Bags (18 Count Combo Size), Reusable, Fast and Simple, Leak Proof, No Vacuum Sealer Required, No BPA/BPS
R. Lee : Product looks redundant comparing with ziplock bags
These bags do not look easily re-usable comparing with ordinary ziplock bags. Both are about the same when we try hand-washing them. I can't see how you can put these in washer. Since water displacement is used for ziplock as well as these special bags, I return mine and continue to use ziplock. I think if you are really into squeezing the last ounce of air out of the ziplock, you may find these bags better. So I can't see keeping a whole bunch of these around when my ziplock can do almost if not the same thing. Maybe my sous vide application is not serious enough to deserve these bags.
Chad Marshall : Extremely difficult to seal
These are a good idea but poor execution. It is very difficult to get the bags to seal, and even when you do, the seal is easy to break. Even after winning the frustrating battle of getting a bag sealed, it's not worth risking getting water in the food I'm cooking in them. I will just go back to ziplock bags.
Dylan Duncan : Easy to use, No leaks!
I put this product through a few tests
Beef short ribs for 12 hrs
Bags held 3 ribs
No leaks or anything
Octopus for 5hrs
Great results no leaks
Very surprised by these bags and how easy they were to use
Jean Silvertooth : Love these!
Makes it so much quicker and easier to Sous Vide. I use them to marinate prior to cooking and also I can add in extra ingredients or liquids while cooking. The ziplock creates a very tight seal. So nice to not drag out my vacuum sealer. Will keep ordering!
Matthew Mcpherson : Works great
Works great, just is a little tough to close but besides that a solid alternative to buying a big cryo machine
Michael J. Meyer : These last and last with no danger of leaking.
I've had this set of bags for almost a year and I'm still on the first two that came out of the set. They have been used at least ten times each and there is no sign of wear or disintegration. The set comes with tubes that resemble short straws to facilitate removing air from the bag as it is placed into water. I've found these are not necessary. Just the small air outlet with a cap is all you'll need to expel air from the bag as it is immersed. All in all, this is one of the better purchases I've ever made for my kitchen and I highly recommend it if you are buying a sous vide immersion heater or if you're looking for something better than off-the-shelf plastic bags. These are also way less expensive and work just as well as vacuum sealers. One tip: Fold the plastic seal strips down so that they are protected as you fill the bag with the item(s) you are cooking. This keeps those seals clean and easier to completely seal at the start of the cooking process.
marcia hamilton : Difficult to seal
The bags were hard to seal. Mine leaked. They just seemed hard to manage.
Christian : Makes Sous Vide So Much Easier!
LOVE these bags--I previously used ziploc bags that would fail letting water in, or I couldn't get all the air out and would have my bags floating (having to add silverware to the ziploc bag to weigh it down). With the Savour Sous Vide bags, it's so easy to just dunk them in and get the air out. They're so strong, I have no issues with them (or any potential pointed foods, like carrots, poking through the bag when it gets warm and soft like a ziploc bag.
Excellent product, I'm a fan for life.
Ryan Manear : Over 150... get bags not ziplocs
The straws are unnecessary. But the bags work well. I would buy these over ziplocs if going over 150 degrees

William Stohl : Great product
Great product for the price.
Stacey P. : Bag will not seal.
Straight out of the package first use the bag will not seal so I cannot do much with them.
Rusty Wright : Why the good ratings?
These bags are horrible! Did I get a bad batch? They are impossible to get the air out and seal tightly.
Cooking carrots, the sides of the bag, split open and the carrots were floating in the water.
Either these are not designed properly or I got some bad ones.
Dominique Khoury : Sturdy and no vacuum seal machine needed
Sturdy bags using a vacuum seal via the water displacement method. No vacuum seal machine necessary and the bags are sturdy and did a nice job.
Michael D. Domash : Based on my experience with these the good reviews must be bogus!
These bags suck! They are advertised as sous vide bags but are very thin and fragile looking. And sure enough they leaked ruining the food we were cooking. I can’t believe the predominately good reviews. I believe they must be bogus.
CPH : Perfect Choice for the Home Cook
For an amateur cook, with no Sous Vide experience, this was the perfect choice. We have only eaten Sous Vide once before and we really enjoyed it, so we wanted to try it at home. The bags worked as advertised and we did not have any issues. We even used a recipe from Savour Sous Vide website for cooking steak. It was fantastic.
MjE : Not impressed
Descent quality but I have been unable to reuse a bag yet. Suction is a bit tricky and bags seal are hard to line up tight. I’m just going to go back to regular freezer bags. Much, much cheaper.
89052zoo : reusable camping food boiling bags for me...
Haven't used them yet, but you get a lot of bags.
Chad Marshall : Extremely difficult to seal

These were so easy to submerge and pull the air out of! I also love the variety in sizes

sybil cantergiani : So easy to use!
It is so easy to get the air out of the bag so that it will not float. The bags work great. I did wash them in the dishwasher and they came out fine.
Virginia Reiss Brenner : Unnecessary. Ziplock bags are just as good and easier to use.
These are awkward to use and unnecessary. I wish I never bought them.
Helene Clarke : Don’t seal.
These are low quality bags. Very very difficult to seal, in fact some wouldn’t seal at all because the zippers were uneven. Definitely not reusable because the food particles really stick to the bag interior. And the pipe for letting the air escape was unnecessary because submersing the bag in water works just as well. These are overpriced bags; ziploc storage or freezer bags are much better.
Ashromeo : Thumbs up
I loved using the Sous bags. It was my first time and I love how foolproof it is. My steak came so tender and was cooked perfectly!

G. Linn : Not as hard as you think!
I must admit, I was a bit nervous trying this method out because 1) I've never used it before 2) boiling water and a sealed bag
Sounded too good to be true, ha! The instructions were straight forward and I just Googled the temperature for Salmon and it literally tasted great. The Salmon was cooked all the way through.

McWakeForest : Caveat Emptor
Greatest regret isn’t failure to trust my instincts Savour Sous Vide bag’s material and seal robustness appeared less substantial than readily available Ziploc Freezer bags or the snorkel (a.k.a. short straw) and vent design seemed inadequately engineered and compatible.
Nor is the greatest regret any belief in purported promotional claim/description as “Reusable,…Leak Proof, NO CLIPS REQUIRED.”
These Savour Sous Vide bags were purchased specifically to cook a venison roast since sous vide is the perfect cooking method for this delicacy that is absent fat/marbling (inherently lean) and laden with connective tissue which offers unrivaled precision and an ability to impart fat and additional flavor[s] without drying proteins out with traditional dry heat cooking, thnat is assuming the bags don’t open during cooking, which they did, effectively creating a meat jacuzzi turning the roast into something akin to wet shoe leather.
Consequently, the greatest regret is trusting the Savour Sous Vide bags to function as reported (which they did not), the inability to replace the lost venison roast (delicacy) until the next hunting season, and not being able to assign the product zero stars
These can’t be returned fast enough.
Going to purchase a commercial grade vacuum sealer and bags now.
Redesign this product to incorporate a positive/secure locking seal and a undefeatable check valve replacing the vent.
Stacey P. : Bag will not seal.
Straight out of the package first use the bag will not seal so I cannot do much with them.
ISLA : Very Easy Process
This was an easy and streamlined way to complete the vacuum sealing process of sous vide. I enjoyed a very delicious steak that was perfectly cooked. I am looking forward to trying other things like vegetables, fish, and more.
Z : Technique is very different from what is most popular/standard
This product was awkward to use when it comes to removing the air from the bag . The family just wants to use an automatic suction to remove the air. I was hoping that it would be simple to use but I couldn't break the family habit of just using the foodsaver machine . Sorry that I couldn't give a better review. I will keep trying to get the family to use this product because it is suppose to be a better bag, but right now this product is basically taking up space in the cabinet.
VJ : Easy to use!
Tried these for the first time yesterday and they were really easy to use, especially as someone with little experience with cooking Sous vide. Started with chicken with try steak next.
Colton : Not Very Efficient
Bag do not stay sealed. They also do not come with enough caps to seal all of the bags so you have to reuse them. The straws for suction are very fragle and crack easily.
Violeta Videla : Good cuality
Everything ok
Barbara : Works well
Have only used one bag ..... have washed it well and will use it again to see how many times it is able to be used.
The bag preformed as stated .... no air leak at all.
GTD : Difficult to seal
The ziplock on these are really hard to close, even more so after sending them through the dishwasher for a second use. To connect the two sides together you have to pinch really hard and sometimes you have to do it several times because it doesn't catch. Too much work. Will be looking for a different bag.
Shreya : A steal for the price
It's great for the price! There's two packet sizes too to adjust to the different things you might be cooking/storing in these bags. Love how easy they are to use and how efficient they are!
Michael J. Meyer : These last and last with no danger of leaking.

Mommy B : Unnecessary and a little hard to use
I thought this looked like a good idea and other reviews are favorable. But I'm just not feeling it. I like the simplicity of the straw, but it's annoying that I have to submerge the bag in water to seal it, only to take it out of the water (wet bag on the counter or taking up the sink) to preheat the bath. It's honestly not that hard to squeeze the air out of a general zip bag. I don't find them easy to clean, in that the residue from the food seems to cling more than in a Ziplock bag. Zip function is also not as good. They are hard to close properly.
Dylan Duncan : Easy to use, No leaks!
I put this product through a few tests
Beef short ribs for 12 hrs
Bags held 3 ribs
No leaks or anything
Octopus for 5hrs
Great results no leaks
Very surprised by these bags and how easy they were to use
Amazon Customer : Best product ever!
Finally, a sous vide bag that is simple and doesn’t leak. I was sick of using my sealer or securing bags to the lip of my pot. Best bags ever..will never use anything else. Thank you Savour Sous Vide..you have made my life so much easier!
Colleen : Hard to reuse.
I did not find these to clean to reuse. Also sometimes the airtight was off.
