Does it release line? Is their a button to push for the line to freely spool or do you need to strip it out by hand?

Answer: It works just like a fly fishing reel. You set the drag and you can pull out line I have been using one now for several weeks ice fishing. Really like it so far for less than 10 bucks

Answer: yes but not by button, there is a nob you tighten for drag-- use it for a fly rod or ice fishing short range stuff very small reel

What kind and size fishing line should i use for this reel?

Answer: I put P-Line Floro Clear copolymer line on mine. Used 6 pound test. Worked great for ice fishing.

Answer: I recommend a 6 or 8lb test braded line.
