What does the size selection mean on this reel ie , 40,80,us80xd & 120?

Answer: I'm not available to look at mine now, but those numbers are model numbers. I.e., Daiwa makes this real in different sizes, starting from smaller (40) to the largest (120). Why each of these would be on the reel, I don't know.

Answer: The size selection on the reel is mainly for the line capacity from what I can tell. My buddy has the us80xd and his can do 4-8lb test while mine is the 120 and it can do 10-14.

What is the appearance, size, performance differences between the listed models; 40, 80, 80xd, 120?

Answer: 40 is the smallest, usable for pan fish and smaller river fish. I've seen the 80 used on fly rods for balance. I won't buy any of them seeing that they break. I've went through 3 in 1.5 summers.

what's the maximize line size? is it suitable for saltwater?

Answer: They have 3 sizes; the largest holds 100/12lb line. It’s not really made for salt water but you could if you washed it out really well after use.

Answer: This is not really made for saltwater fishing., but could be used for small game fishing. The spool is small, so it doesn’t hold a lot of line. I’m using the 10lb line that came with it, so it has about 100 yards.

can the handle be placed on the other side.

Can you use this with 10#power pro spectra fiber braided fishing line

Answer: Reading the line capacity on the back of the package: mm .30, 10lb, 55 yards. Not sure about spectra fiber braided but that what is says for 10lb test.

Answer: I had my first one for 30 years and replaced it with a model one size larger. Loved it and this one is as good. See no problem with braided line on this reel but mono works great.

Answer: I have only been using light mono and fluorocarbon so far. Braid that light might work.

Answer: no max would be 6LB.

Answer: The answer is yes, but I would not due to the wear it would cause on winding finger.

Answer: I have the UD80XD so not sure what the 120 has that's different/better/worse. This is my second Diawa 80 size I've had in 25 years, and I'm very satisfied with it. Simply wore the first one out :-) ...

Answer: I'm not that this model is any better quality than their other models, but rather has an increased capacity, which is why I bought this model. Hope this helps.

Answer: lower can't buy parts

Answer: I was never informed of any upgraded versions. All I can tell you is that out of all the three I now own they have the same issue of the pick up pins not remaining retracted throughout cast. The first one lasted for 1 complete season of heavy use, while one of the other two did not perform well out of the box and the final one lasted only for two days of fishing before developing the same issue. I understand they are inexpensive reels but should last a longer than this. My 40 year old Zebco 202 may be beat up but is still useable without all the aggravation (and PROFANITY).

Answer: The spool is a bit bigger, handles larger line size and the feel of the reel-in and cast is a bit more comfortable.

Description says us80xd "made in japan", is this true?

Answer: The us - would be for Underspin, and if it says made in Japan, then it probably is.

Answer: no, Mine was made in China. Check under the mounting foot there should be a sticker there that tells where it is made.

Answer: Don't purchase these. I bought two. Both failed after very limited use.
