Does this have a biodegradable escape hatch?

Answer: No but you could buy some cotton rot cord and tie the door closed instead of using the latch to close the trap. Having said that, that should make it compliant with your local regulations.

Answer: No.

Can this be used for blue crabs

Answer: I have had reports of people catching crabs, but it was designed for crawfish. We don't know how effective it would be compared to crab traps.

These traps add to lake fishing fun. I throw them out when I get on the water then pick them up when headed home. The crayfish are delicious to eat. Traps work fantastic. I average 10 crawdads per trap per trip.

Unfortunately, I caught way less crawdads in these traps than I did with a $30 cylinder type trap. I am sure not knocking the trap, seems very well built with great doors, closures and the 550 cord, perhaps it was something I did.

i bought a couple of these last summer to add to my arsenal of cylinder style traps. the door openings are alot bigger and with the hinge design they cant get out when they are done eating. i did notice that i seem to catch more and bigger crayfish in them as well.
