Product reviews of Dexter-Russell 5-Inch Fish Knife
Magnavox : Definitely recommend
I really like this knife it’s not super thick like other outdoor knives so you can use it for carving and food with no problems. Initially i was drawn to it because of the history and simplicity of it. But it definitely does hold its own even in our times. It’s probably better than most of the other outdoor knives I used. Would definitely recommend.
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
Great knife.
prairie canoe : Is what it is.
Will work great once I sharpen it.
mark : Excellent
I've been looking for a knife like this for camping, wittling, ect. It is an old trusted design.

I'm really impressed.I wish someone made a decent pouch type sheath for it.
x : quality steel in a superior camp or bushcraft knife
I've used several of this blade and and several Dadley blades starting in the 1970s and love them. I more often buy the blades and add my own scales. The steel is durable and tough high carbon. Yes, they will rust, part of the charm. The Green River C1095 high carbon steel is far superior to the soft 440 stainless used in so many knives. The blade is thin enough to be lightweight and easy to carry but thick enough to be sturdy and hold up to occasional battoning. The Green River line is by far the best buy out there in a bushcraft knife. You can't go wrong with this model or the Dadley. As a kid I bicycled across the continent with one and was often glad to have it.
bwana kuwba : Poor quality
Terrible build quality Poor fit and finish. Scales not symmetrical. Rivets poorly installed. Waste of time purchasing this knife,
Pine Home Outdoors : Great outdoor knife for woodcraft and camping
This knife is an outstanding value! The Outdoorsman spends tons of money on expensive thick bladed Wonder knives that are supposed to satisfy the one tool option idea which, while it has its place is not the most desirable thought process when out in the woods doing woodcraft and traditional camping. This knife fills the need for a good sharp thin blade outdoor knife that is easy to carry easy to maintain and most importantly comfortable in the hand. The price can't be beat and in fact out steps even more expensive survival and Bushcraft knives. A knife Kephart or Nessmuk would feel comfortable with!
Amazon Customer : Made in USA
Sharp out of the box..Used a strop to finish it..Wood scales rough but a little sand paper, steel wool & linseed oil took care of that.. $11 sheath and Away We Go!
Beeottfirst : Good stout utility knife.
This knife is making a good edition to my camping pack although I haven't used it yet.

Buzzard II : Nice knife.
Nice knife that does the job. They have been around for many years and build good knives.
DonnaA : great blade, love the Rosewood handle
great blade, love the Rosewood handle. Put a apple cider vinegar forced patina on all my carbon knives so they don`t rust
Marcus : Diamond in the rough
I appreciate simple antique knife designs like Old Hickory and Green River. Having said that my first impression of this knife was "dollar store putty knife with a point". The finish of the blade looks like cheap stainless steel and the handle was shaped and sanded with all the care and attention to detail of a shipping pallet. There are a lot of sharp points on the handle that will cause hotspots in use. The handle is also fairly short for large hands. The edge was just okay. I would have given it two stars out of the box. Still it seemed to have potential.... I sanded the sharp points and edges off the handle scales, rounded the butt a little and finished it with boiled linseed oil. Now it's very user friendly and I find that my thumb rests comfortably on top of the handle scale like a thumb rest grip on a pistol. I forced a patina on the blade with some hot pepper relish and stropped the edge to a shaving edge, which didn't take long at all. Now it's a new knife that looks 100 years old. I haven't skinned a moose with it or batoned it through an engine block or anything but I've been using it in the kitchen and have done some whittling with it. It slices like a laser beam, holds a good edge and I find myself using it quite a bit. This is my new favorite camp cooking knife. I'd easily give it four stars if it came this way. I averaged my two and four star ratings to arrive at a final three stars. If you don't mind putting a little work into it this can be a great knife.
