how does the side plate come off?I have pressed, pushed, and tryed to turn it and nothing happens. I dont need to pry it off do I?

Answer: Push up on the little lever on the bottom of the side plate near the front of the reel. Then turn the whole side plate down. Mine moves pretty easily.

Answer: No dont pry it off, push the release and then rotate counter clock wise, it should come off, push with your thumb right out above the release. Hope that helps you

Answer: It turns down, just hold the reel in your left hand like you are reeling, take your right hand and pointer finger and reach over press the button. Now use your left thumb and press down on the top of the side plate(the pointed end it should slide down and stop. They are tight the first couple of times you remove it,even when you pull out on it wiggle the side plate while pulling away from the spool.

Answer: The 6-3-1 gear ratio would be ideal it’s the in between speed. The 5-3-1 would also be good for crankbaits,spinnerbaits as it’s a slower real. Hope it helps

Answer: The faster the reel the better.

Witch gear ratio is best for crankbaits and chatterbait

Answer: The 5.3:1 is best for cranking the 6.3:1 or the 7.6:1 is best for chatterbaits but for both I would get the 6.3:1.

Answer: 6.4 is good for chatterbaits and the 5.3 for the crankbaits

Answer: Square bills, spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits use the 6:3.1 or burnt orange Phantom X. Deep cranking or large swimbaits use the Blue Phantom X.

Answer: Sure, it’s a good reel

Answer: The phantom is an all carbon reel, different brake system, much lighter, it can be tricky to set but once you dial it in you won't put it down, pair it with a 7'1 serpent rod you will be amazed!

Answer: I'm pretty sure that you can. This reel has a deep spool, but thicker line can sometime effect casting distance and line capacity.

I can't get the left cover off, whats the trick?

Answer: On the bottom of the side plate there’s a button. Press and hold while twisting and pushing the side plate down.

Patrick : Great reel for 45 bucks

Great for 45 bucks, though I wouldn’t say it’s comparable to reels that are 100+ bucks like some claim. I gave it five stars because even saying that, I still like it better than my other reels at around the 60+ price range. It is really smooth, but you can still feel the gears a little until you open it up and grease/lube it - it feels better afterwards but still noisy when casting. It does cast well and without backlash even though it’s seems noisy. It’s easy to access the brakes and I do like the centrifugal brakes. Definitely worth it for a beginner setup or for someone that just doesn’t want to spend much. It’s definitely comparable to my reels such as my Abu Garcia SilverMax, the older model Quantum Escalade, and my RG Daiwa, and I would choose this over them since it’s much cheaper. I got this for the gear ratio, since I needed a slower retrieve for cranking. The grips are more comfortable and the longer handle is a nice touch over the reels previously mentioned.

I bought this reel after reading good reviews. I am disappointed. The look of the reel is good and it seems to be pretty smooth while reeling it in. However the castability is awful....horrible....terrible. I have spent several hours with this thing at the lake so far and with the brakes turned all the way down I can cast a crank bait or spinner about 10 yards max. I have fiddled with the settings for hours but this thing is just awful. My KK royale legend that I ordered about the same time as this one was cheaper and performs great. I bought this reel with the 5.3:1 specifically for crank baits and it is completely worthless to me now. Oiled and greased it as well but no good. It may cast well with a 3/4 oz jig on it but that's not what I bought it for and frankly not what a reel in this gear ratio is designed for. I dont know too many people that will buy a reel in this configuration for anything but cranking and of it doesnt perform with a crank bait then it is essentially worthless. I guess I'm out $45 and will buy another KK.

I really have no complaints with this reel. This is my first foray into baitcasting and I'm very impressed with the quality and function this provides. It took me a minute to dial in for throwing light crank baits on 12# fluoro, but they soar now (I'd say about 30+ yds.) I've been using this reel for a month or so fishing 4-5 times a week. It has stood up excellently to the abuse I inevitably put my gear through. Although I'm not a fishing expert by any means, I would highly recommend this reel for anyone looking to try out a baitcaster or seeking a cheaper alternative to brand name casters without sacrificing quality.

Update: NOV 22 2019 Ordered in August and fished with it up until now. Took it out today and the braking system decided to grenade on me after the third cast. I will be upgrading to something much more durable in the future. Shame too...this was seriously one of my favorite reels

I have been waiting a while for a reel that was similar to the Piscifun phantom because that was my favorite reel. The phantom X feels low profile just the way I like. I always love the rubber thumb bar insert because it just gives added grip and better quality to a reel. The best part about the phantom X is that it comes in 3 different gear ratios and it’s color coded to each gear ratio! I have been waiting on a low gear ratio and a high gear ratio that was offered by Piscifun for a while. After feeling the quality of the phantom, I knew the X would live up to the same standards. Carbon fiber handles and EVA knobs are added bonus! Affordable for any type of angler! I cannot wait to slap this on my rods and get to FISHIN’! Tightlines!

I love this reel!!! I bought this in the mid gear ratio, the inner braking system alone seems to be a great feature to help make casting smooth and to make the reel look beautiful. The drag is super strong and will take on most fresh water fish with ease. These reels have became my favorite after only one fishing trip.

I bought this reel because it was cheap and I wanted to get into bait caster fishing. I took this reel on the water, and on my first cast I started having problems. The reel was very rough, scratchy and squeaked when I reeled it in. If you're considering this reel, go for a trusted name brand, or literally any other brand.

Would have given this reel 5 stars, but when I received it the reel was not very smooth and noisy. After taking apart and adding grease and lube it is now very smooth and casts really well. I happen to take my reels apart and lube them so I know what I'm doing but many people buying these lower cost reels may just be starting out and don't know how to do that. Piscifun and Kastking for that matter need to get better at lubing their reels from the factory or use better materials.

Bought this reel not expecting much. Didn't like how cheap it feels in the hand. Not too ecstatic about the play in the handle, but once I started casting, all my disappointment disappeared. This is a great casting and smooth retrieving reel. Launches casts a mile. I cant say how long it will be without failure, but im hoping for the best. If this lasts 2 years, it will be one of the best values in baitcast reels. Id damn sure buy more, the price is very reasonable for the product. Its actually a great deal....... ad long as it holds up over time.
