Questions about GERYON Vacuum Sealer, Automatic Food Sealer Machine with Starter Bags & Roll for Food Savers and Sous Vide, Black
Q:
how many bags can you seal before it needs a break from becoming too hot?
Answer: I have been vacuum sealing bags for 8 years before my sealer lock down clamp broke. I used this one for about an hour and tried about 16 vacs and seals. I returned it immediately.
Answer: It needs 40 sec rest between each seal
Answer: IDK.
Q:
It will only work with both side texture bags?
Answer: The best performace with both side texture bags, One side texture is also accept, but maybe need seal more than once
Answer: No I have sealed store bought chip bags with it. It seals everything. It is truly amazing.
Answer: Works best with both side textured.
Q:
Can it seal a bag of chips also?
Answer: I have not had much luck getting it to seal anything other than the bags it came with. It may be user error, or the chip bags are too wrinkled, but they don't seal completely. Q:
Will it be harmful to the sealer if some water goes into the vacuum chamber?
Answer: We found if liquid gets sucked up to the sealing point, you don’t get a good seal.
Answer: It will affect the machine function, please do not vacuum seal liquids or moisture directly,
Q:
What's the difference between the bags and the roll?
Answer: Seriously? The bags are pre-cut and measure 10" L x 7" W of effective use as you have to account for the seal at one end, and after you spoon in the food item, you have to seal it 2.5" from the end of the bag. The roll is a continuous length of bag material which you can cut to length, fill and then seal. They give you some "starter" bags and a small roll. You can go online and buy bags or rolls of different lengths to meet your needs.
Answer: The bags are a predetermined size already sealed at one end. You only have to vacuum and seal one end. The roll, you have to cut off the length of the bag to the size you want, seal the one end before you load it, and then vacuum and seal the other end.
Answer: The bags are a predetermined size and come closed on the sides and bottom. You just fill the bag and seal the top. The roll allows you to make a bag to your specific size requirements.
Answer: The bags are closed on one end and you use the machine to seal up the open end once you put your food or whatever inside. The roll is open on both ends. You cut the length that you want and seal on end to make a bag. Just make sure you seal the one end before you fill it :)
Answer: The rolls are made of same material, you just seal both ends. You can make the bag as long or short as you want
Answer: Bags come with just one side that needs to be sealed, but bags made from the rolls can be cut to desired size and need to be sealed on two sides.
Answer: They are the same thing except that the bags are pre cut and the roll you have to cut yourself
Q:
Wiil it work with the food saver jar sealers?
Answer: I don’t think so
Answer: I really have no clue on that one.......
Q:
Wiil it work with the food saver jar sealers?
Answer: I don’t think so
Answer: I really have no clue on that one.......
Q:
what is the voltage?
Answer: Standard US voltage -- 110VAC.
Answer: According to the side of the box - 110-120V
Q:
How can it create a low vacuum for soft foods?
Answer: In the middle of vacuuming, hit the stop button, then immediately hit the seal button. You may get a little air that seaps back into the bag before it's done with the 'seal' cycle, but nothing you can do about that. If a low vacuum for soft foods is important to you, buy a different machine with that particular feature. There's plenty of them out there, and the price difference is nominal.
Q:
Am I supposed to freeze food before sealing?
Answer: You can seal fresh fruits and vegetables, meats even prepared foods without prior freezing. You really want to remove all air before freezing as this will help to preserve the quality of the food.
Answer: No you do not have to freeze food before sealing.
Answer: No. I have sealed frozen food but it isn’t necessary.
Answer: I have not. I will say that broccoli and cauliflower I Blanche before freezing. Proteins- no I bring them home from the grocery and immediately freeze in the bag
Answer: no! The vacuumed bag contacts the food and protects against freezer burn! Make sure you follow the direction so the food looks like it has been laminated?
Answer: No but I guess you could. But why?
Q:
can you hook up the small hose and round top for canning?
Answer: Doubt it
Q:
Is this machine easy to clean after using?
Answer: I recently bought this machine and have used it several times to both vacuum & seal, and to just seal. I let it cool down a few minutes once I am done and wipe it with a paper towel. I have only had it a short time, but so far I love it! I hope my answer helps.
Answer: No mess. There is a little dish area when you vacuum seal.
Q:
Can you seal left overs, like mac n' cheese, casseroles, spaghetti sauce?
Answer: Yes if it seals good I sent mine back for a refund it stopped vaccumm Sealing!!!
Answer: Yes you can. Sauce maybe a little challenge
Answer: I have only used it for meat. I see no reason why it won’t work with items you mentioned.
Q:
dose the machine store the roll vacume bages
Answer: No, it does not store the vacuum bags roll. You have detach and/or cut the size of the bag you want to use.
Answer: No which I like because it makes it that much smaller taking up less space on my counter.
Answer: No
Answer: No

Answer: Nope sure have not
Q:
What is the phone number for Geryo? I need phone number. Sealer does not work
Answer: Did my see why mot
Q:
It seems like all of the air is getting vacuumed out of the bag, but the next day air is back in. Can someone help?
Answer: It sounds like you haven't sufficiently sealed bag. Try pressing the top clamp down as you seal your bag. I found this helps seal the bag better.
Answer: Lining up the bag to the vacuum line is critical. The bag must be square to the device to get a good seal. Also, you must wait for both vac. and seal lights go out.
Answer: Seal the bag a second time. Maybe it wasn't hot enough to completely seal the bag. I usually wait an extra minute or so before starting to seal. Let's the machine warm up.
Q:
i live in a small town of 1,500. the only store we have is a walmart. can i buy the bags at walmart?
Answer: Yes. We have used the FoodSaver brand of vacuum seal rolls with excellent results.
Q:
Will this easily seal a bag with marinating liquids in it? I had to return another model because it couldn't do it.
Answer: I haven't tried sealing liquids, yet, but I can imagine it being a very messy process. The machine sucks the air out as it seals, so I could imagine some of the fluid being sucked out too. Maybe a different buyer has tried it. We only use it to seal dry goods.
Answer: If any liquid is trapped beneath the sealing mechanism, the bag won't seal. You can stop the vacuum early and seal, or just seal it without removing the air, so it's possible but not easy
Answer: It will suck the liquid into the vacuum. It has directions to freeze it before you seal it for items with lots of liquid.
Answer: no, it will not seal anything with liquids. I tried sealing corn from the cob and it was too much for it to seal properly.
Answer: I saw someone suggest freezing the liquid before sealing. Sounds logical to me.
Product reviews of GERYON Vacuum Sealer, Automatic Food Sealer Machine with Starter Bags & Roll for Food Savers and Sous Vide, Black
Beaufort Bruce : Biggest Bang for the Buck!
I purchased the Geryon vacuum sealer for the specific purpose of sealing UMAi bags for dry aging beef. I have found that the features of this device lend it to that purpose rather well.
1. The vacuum stays on until a good vacuum is achieved allowing to get a good contact of the drying bag and the meat.
2. The sealing area is slightly longer than similar devices which helps a lot.
3. The sealed area of the finished bag is a bit wider than other units giving a better more secure seal.
4. The latching lid holds the bag firmly in place. This is importance since the UMAI bags seal at a higher temperature than regular vacuum bags a repetition of the sealing process is required. I have found that 3 sealing cycles with 10 seconds between each is just right for the dry aging bags.
Although I have of course found other more conventional uses and this sealer is great for them all I thought I would describe the reasons I bought it and how that worked out. I definitely give this product the “Biggest Bang for the Buck” award and a thumbs up!
barbara : Compact; good for sealing smaller packages.
Very nice sealer. It vacuums out all the air and seals tight. It is very small compared to some others. I needed a compact sealer because I do not have much counter or storage space. This seals bags up to 12 inches wide.
Don't be fooled by the included card that says if you write a review on Amazon for this product, you will receive a free gift. It didn't happen for me so unless your are special it won't happen for you either.
Still, it is a good product for the money.
W. Wright : Don't waste your money
I had been looking to purchase a vacuum sealer for a while. I had looked at several options on Amazon. When I saw that this particular food vacuum was "Amazon Choice", I thought it would be great. Generally, I've found "Amazon Choice" items to be very good.
Not this.
It worked great the first couple of times, but after a week, I started having issues. Now it no longer seals completely and the vacuum is hit or miss - mostly miss. I've tried several brands of bags, made sure I was following the instructions, and have had the same unsuccessful attempts with each brand. You could say this vacuum sealer really does suck.
So don't waste your money with this sealer. Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for.
Tintale : A quality product!
I bought this vacuum sealer to replace a large foodsaver. Primarily we use this for fish and game. In reading the instructions I found some other great ideas for its use.
The dealer is easy to use with detailed instructions. As with previous reviews, I will suggest you allow a wait time after sealing for the item and sealer to cool before proceeding to next item. It finished products were well sealed and held its vacuum perfectly.
The machine itself is compact and easy to store. The instructions explained which bags are to be used in the machine but I've not yet tried other than what came with the machine.
Overall I'm very pleased with the machine and it was a great price.
PinkyFloyd : Do it NOW!
Wow.....I had been wanting a vacuum food sealer for DECADES! Don't know what took me so long - so if that is you too - don't wait! Took it out of the box and was slightly intimidated, but had seen a few videos on how they worked so I knew the basics. Well, thats all you need to know with this one! So easy to use! Put food in presealed bag, put end in machine, close machine top with a little pressure until it latches on each side to securely close it and press vacuum and seal (or just seal)....and now you know how to operate this! It really is that easy. Very happy I purchased this one. It was less expensive than some of the name brand ones but has the same functions as the big boys and has the vacuum nozzle so if you wanted to purchase the canning jar lid and hose you can easily attach it (mine is on the way). BTW the hose and canning jar accessories are much cheaper on eBay than here. Bottom line is - super simple, doesn't take up much room and will save all your food from freezer burn and extend the life of fruits, veggies. You really can't go wrong with this one. So happy with this purchase!
UPDATE: I purchased a bag of salad 10 days ago ($3.98), and ate half of the bag for lunch. I sealed the remainder of the bag, tossed it back in the fridge and honestly, just forgot about it. I don't know if you know how fast open bag of salad deteriorates after opening the bag, but after 3 or 4 days, the lettuce would be starting to turn rust colored and by 10 days, it would be mostly watery and mush. I would not have eaten it and would have thrown it out and wasted food (again). This has been going on for YEARS. Went into the fridge this morning - the salad in the sealed bag looks as fresh as it did when I purchased it and I will be enjoying salad for lunch. This little machine just saved me another $3.98!
MLG : I wish it would suck more... literally.
Well, this is my first time owning a vacuum sealer but I am not too excited. I cook in sous vide a lot but normally use good old Ziploc bags and dip them slowly into the water and air comes out. Well, this is just as good as that method, maaaaybe slightly better. Well, I did a pork loin..salted, spiced, etc. I formed a bag by using the Seal button. No problem. Then I cut the bag leaving about 4 inches longer than my loin is ( they say leave 2,5 minimum). I tried to vacuum seal...no luck. Lots of noise, no action. Took meat out, cut another bag and veeeeery carefully reposition the bag in vacuum seal area. The second time it did it but very anemically. Sort of kind of...but I could do same with Ziploc bag. Definitely not strong enough. I should have known this doesn't have good vacuuming power when the instructions say " press the bag to expell excess air before vacuuming". Hmm..what??
Also, the meat had a little moisture but not really. I washed it and dried it with paper towels. Marinade?? No way!!! Don't think about it!! Even in my case it was pulling moisture from the meat and looked weird . For once in a while sous vide cooking I guess this is sort of acceptable. For hunters that want to vacuum pack their meats for long term storage? No way. Meat will be freezer burn because there's still tiny air pockets. Buy a good quality name brand machine with more power. This machine is a bit too much fuss and agravation. I am too cheap so I use this unit ( black Friday pricing) or Ziploc if I don't feel like fussing for 10 minutes with the machine for one small piece of meat

dwongken : bought Sept '18
I bought mine in September 2018, and use it twice a week for 25 items.
I'm a private chef who plans meals on weekends for my clients. I will seal at least 15 items each time, plus items for my family of four.
It seals amazingly well - when i let it cool down after about 10 bags. If you don't let it cool down, you'll end up resealing it and doubling your work. I seal moist and dry foods, but mostly moist - fish, beef, chicken, lamb. If something is soaked in juices or water then you'll have a major issue, but if that's the case, you should be sealing it in a container instead. An upgraded model has the attachment for container vacuuming, but I have no experience with that item.
I would 100% recommend this sealer. I tried the Foodsaver brand and it's good too, but this one, and how simple and easy it is to use and clean, and the price is the best on the market. Get it!
Shar : Works pretty well!
This sealer comes with a tiny bit of a learning curve/adjustment period, but otherwise it works pretty darn well. After MUCH trial and error, I thought it wasn't sealing at all, to be honest. But, once I sealed the bag and left the sealer locked during the waiting period (recommended amount of time between seals), then opened the sealer, it was sealed to perfection. Now, I am using it for everything! It works great, when used in this way. As long as you leave it be for a few, it seals fine! For me, I just place in the sealer, lock it, and let it do its thing, while I prepare the next item to seal. By the time I finish that, it's done and ready to roll! This method saves A TON of time for us! :)
Tony Barron : Fantastic product.
Exactly as advertised, immediate shipping. Fantastic product. Update: I received a flyer with the product that stated if I left a review, I would receive FREE 2 rolls of sealer bags, so I did my part very well I thought...….. So I get an email from them with a 99% off code to turn around and order these FREE bags and the code doesn't work anywhere I tried to apply it, imagine that.... SO just a heads up, if you buy this product ignore their FREE offer because it's just not true. Thanks.
MarkG : Not worth the money
I bought this a few months ago and was using it sporadically. It worked pretty well for the first 10 or so vacuum seals. I keep trying it, then putting it away, hoping it will miraculously get better. Of course it doesn’t. The vacuum seal never stops. I let it run for almost 5 minutes before giving up and hitting the seal button. Needless to say, the bag then slowly begins to refill with air. I have tried vacuum sealing all types of different food, with different size bags, and it just doesn’t work. Yes, I use textured bags. It’s good for sealing only. Bottom line for me is that this item actually “sucks” and not the way it should. Not sure if a higher price model will work better.
R. Clarke : Light compact user friendly
I just unboxed the sealer from Geryon. The package came secure. It was wrapped in plastic with place holders then placed in its branded box. Easy to u box. Simple buttons to guide you on what you want to do whether seal or do a vacuum seal. The seal function works on pretty much any type plastic. There are 2 locking clips that hold the bag in place. That's a good feature allows you to set it. Lock. Seal it and a light will appear once the operation is complete. Easy peasey. Great price too. Be aware there are a lot of plastic parts so don't go banging it around as something will give. Overall, so far real good
BAH : Great product
This is the first vacuum sealer machine I have purchased or used. It is very easy to use and I will be using it ALOT in future. I have used it during the processing of a recently harvested deer, and it worked wonderfully. I will also be using this in tandem with my dehydrator to make my own backpacking meals for two sons and myself. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this to anybody looking for a vacuum sealer at a reasonable price.
Amazon Customer : Read the instruction Manual
So far, this little machine is amazing! It’s small, so I was a little worried that it wouldn’t work well, but I have been using this for two days now and find it to be easy to use and effective. I took the time to read the instruction manual after seeing some negative reviews and started using it without a hitch right away. This is making meal planning for my family so much easier.
dwongken : bought Sept '18
Get it!
Craig : Great machine, Great price
I've only had the opportunity to use this vacuum sealer a couple of times so far but will update my review if anything changes. I love the simplicity of the device. It is my first device of this type so I don't have anything for comparative purposes but I can't imagine it being any easier to preserve leftover foods or to portion up items from the grocery store for storage. I bought this to help eliminate the waste from having to throw away out of date food that I make on my new pellet grill. This way I can simply let it cool, vacuum seal the leftovers and throw them in the deep freeze for use later on without worrying about freezer burn. So far, so good!
WBoweIII : Not good and can't find how to get it replaced under warranty
This sealer is unpredictable. Sometimes it works and others it does not. It often vacuums forever without sealing and when it does seal every other one is unreliable. Originally thought I was the cheap bags I got but ordered some of their brand with identical results. It seems like the pressure switch that triggers the unit to seal is sensitive to heat or humidity or something and just often will not kick in correctly. When searching for the manufacturer I cannot seem to identify them to attempt to get a replacement. Waited too long to return to Amazon so guess I am gonna throw it in the trash.
William R. : Loving my vacuum sealer
First off, let me say that I love this vacuum sealer...it inexpensive and works well.
I do a lot of sous vide cooking, and prep my meats well in advance, either seasoning sealing and freezing, or refrigeratoring awaiting the meal prep.
Things not to do:
1. Do not add any liquid to the bag, this results in a non-sealing mess. The liquid always finds it way to the top and interferes with the sealing process
2. Do not try to vacuum seal dry pasta in only the bag....crushes it like a grape! The vacuum pull is strong
3. Pay attention to the bags you order on Amazon. While you would think all bags are the same...they are not, I have $20 bucks of worthless bags that won't seal with this unit. Only buy their bags, they work great, and are the same price.
If you find it necessary to seal a liquid, aka marinade with your meat. Freeze the contents before sealing....this works fine, its now my lesson( relearned every few weeks!)
It's a quick, easy and very handy tool....I recommend this unit
Eclipesbigdog : Good price, Easy to use, Fast shipped!
Once we followed the directions we were very pleased with the appliance. When vacuum sealing meats placing a paper towel under it is important (as in the directions?). A good kitchen scale is helpful in bagging ground beef also finding a Tupperware container that will help with the molding is very helpful! Lidl had a BOGO sale on Ground Chuck and I put up 12 pounds in 1 pound units last night. Placing packages on a baking tray allows for nice flat freezing of units(remove tray after initial freezing). I also took advantage of FL's $1.48 sale of Pork Loin with many boneless chops (9 pounds). Beats the heck out of plastic freezer bags? Good price, quick delivery, easy to use! Order now and start saving real soon! This thing works!
Hiro : Good for non-moist items.
Good, basic, lower cost sealer that works well with dry items. Things like diced or chunked raw chicken breast, which I prepare for my cats, don't seal well unless it's at least partially frozen first. If it's very moist, the juices can prevent a complete seal. Even if meat is less moist, the meat seems to block some of the air flow out of the bag. This is my first time using a sealer, so maybe there are tricks and details that I'm unaware of.
Josh Lakenan : Works maybe half the time at best
Based on my experience and the other reviews on this product, it seems like this company has a quality control issue. You’re taking a gamble if you’re going to receive a good product or a dud. I, unfortunately, received a dud. Like a previous reviewer said, you cannot do a partial vacuum to get most of the air out. Also, it only seals about 50% of the time. The other 50%, it sound and act like it’s sealing, but when you open it up, nothing has happened. I’ve found that if you just leave it in and run the seal button like two or three times, then you save time because you don’t have to reposition the bag each time you open it to find there was no seal made. If you’re patient, you can make it work, but you’ll end up spending double the time you’d spend if you had a sealer that worked consistently.
C. Lavine : Don’t but, beware!!!! No support!
I used this vacuum sealer about 12 times. It worked great! The last week, I have tried it and it will vacuum it, but won’t seal it. I have tried it a number of different ways, but nothing will seal it after the vacuum. Everything is clean and dry, but to no avail! I have not contacted anyone with the issues, but don’t think I would order this again or recommend it!
1/27/2020 Update - tried again. The unit will seal the open side of the bag, but when you try to vacuum and seal, the vacuum works, but it won’t seal without hitting the seal button (which lets out the vacuum. Since the manufacturer nor Amazon hasn’t contacted me, I can only assume that they are both okay selling a defective product!
Don’t buy! Spend a bit more and get a Foodsaver on QVC!!!
Roger W. : Machine great accompanying bags junk
Right out of the box it didnt work well. I think the issue was the bags that came with it. After I made several sealed packages none of them held the vacuum. I almost sent it back. I had ordered several rolls of open ended heat sealable material under a different name. When I used my different bags it worked perfectly. These new bags do best with texture side down. The sealed packages are tight and rock hard now. I double heat seal each end. I am very happy now that I threw out the bags that came with it. Great buy for $35.
Liam's Mom : Great for my overflowing garden!
I bought this because my garden is overflowing with zucchini, squash, peppers, and tomatoes.
Instead of giving all the surplus away as I have done in previous years, I decided to freeze it for use later in the winter.
This works great!
Easy to use, packages up my veggies with minimal effort.
I can make custom size bags- single serve vs multiple, which is great for me since I live alone and don’t really care for leftovers.
I can even store non food items in the bags.
Great item and would definitely recommend!
And- this brand has the highest Consumer Ratings which is always something that I look for when buying electronics.
M. Schwarzin : Works great
I really like this sealer. Great for buying large packages of meat and separating into smaller portions to freeze. Packages lie flat in the freezer. Sealer is very easy to use. Just my opinion: rolls are better than bags you can cut them to whatever size you need for what you're sealing.
T. Diffley : High quality, Easy to Use as our first Vacuum Sealer.
Geryon Vacuum Sealer is our first vacuum sealer and we’re delighted with the directions, ease of use and quality of the product. Our first use was to vacuum seal Kielbasa - we used the included roll (5 bags are included as well) to custom cut the size we needed and it worked perfectly! Can’t wait until our next vacuum sealing with Geryon! If you’ve been avoiding getting a vacuum sealer as unsure if it will work as you hope then this Geryon is the one to get.

Marianne Y. Laubis : Easy to use, I learned a new trick
I have used vacuum sealers before, without much success. When my boyfriend started fishing offshore again, we bought a freezer and needed a vacuum sealer, this was the one Amazon recommended. Works great, this is the first time I was ever told to use a paper towel with unfrozen meat/fish, thank you Geryon for the clear, concise instructions. I also like the idea of making a "chain" of attached bags.
Karin F. : Good Sealer
The only reason I gave this product 4 stars and not 5 is that the sealer did not work with the roll of sealer bags that came with it. It did work well with FoodSaver pre-cut sealerbags that I bought separately. Otherwise the sealer machine works very well and easy to use.
Texzilla : Works as advertised, os a great job.
The Geryon fresh sealer works very well once you get the hang of it. The premade bags are fairly small and as I'm mostly freezing meat bought in bulk, I prefer the rolls for sealing meat.
The key to this is making sure you have enough space between your food and the sealer, and that you have the bag positioned correctly to the suction line If the machine is continuing to suck and the last vestige of air wont leave, simply hit the stop button and reposition the bag and redo the process.. If you inadvertently seal a poorly sealed bag youve wasted it.
all in all an excellent product fro those needing a sealer but not requiring a commercial duty one.

chowhogger : "Amazon's Choice" is correct
I've been wanting one of these vac-sealers for years but could not justify spending over $100 for the name brand version for just occasional use. When I looked again and saw this one at well under $50, I grabbed it. I wanted it for freezing large quantities of blueberries and strawberries and also salmon, sword, tuna that I buy on sale. Being winter I am not picking berries, but I got a great deal on Norwegian salmon and got this on a one-day prime delivery. Took it out of the box and immediately made six bags and then vac sealed six fillets cut in 12 oz portions. For fish, the instructions suggested pre-freezing the fish to firm it up, and/or putting a paper towel in the bag to absorb any liquid, but I decided to try it doing neither. (very good instructions, BTW). Perhaps because salmon is fairly dense and was fresh it worked perfectly, sucking in tight around the fish like commercial shrink-wrapped food you see in the store. Plenty of power in my opinion and I did one after another with no problem - less that a minute between suction seals. I used the bags provided and will buy the same "textured inside on both sides" type that they recommend. I also did some big batches of roasted cauliflower and broccoli al dente which I bagged up in portions after it cooled. I defrosted a portion in warm water in the bag and then just nuked briefly (out of the bag) to heat and finish cooking. Also, this machine is very simple and compact.
Abigail Page : Great little vacuum sealer
It does the job! Really easy to use. I purchased this to go along with my Sous Vide and so far, it’s great. I have never used a vacuum sealer before so I don’t have anything to compare this to, but I like that it’s small, lightweight and easy to get in and out of my cupboard.
T. Diffley : High quality, Easy to Use as our first Vacuum Sealer.

Tania : no good
Worked pretty well the first time. The second bag I thought maybe because the bag was wet inside it didn't suck as well. So the third and 4th bags I wiped the inside after putting the chicken in and it did a lousy job sucking the air out. I even double checked to make sure I had it in the right area. It went back to Amazon.
rg : Works very fast
My dad's old vacuum sealer was going out, so I decided to surprise him with a new one. His old one would take between 30 seconds and a minute to vacuum, then another 15 seconds to seal. It worked, but he said it was just too slow. He was super excited to get this one, and noticed a difference right away. He was able to make his own bags without any problems. He actually said this one works twice as fast as his old one. He recently got some venison from a next-door neighbor, and was able to vacuum and seal the entire box of venison in less than an hour. The other thing he likes is the fact that it is extra wide. he also said that because he is able to vacuum all the air out, he is not worried about freezer burn at all. Since my dad likes it, and he's very happy with it, I would say that's a win. Plus, he is able to save a good bit of money vacuum sealing all the meat, and doesn't have to worry about any going to waste.

T. Tabor : Nice Vacuum Sealer
A great sealer. I have only used this vacuum sealer a handful of times, but for the cost, it has impressed me with its ease of use and vacuum. I always hit the seal button after the vacuum and seal function have completed just to be assured of a strong seal to block out the effects of the freezer.
I can’t comment on the long term protection, but I’m almost certain that would be a result of the quality of the bags a person uses. Overall I’m very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others needing a convenient food storage solution.
Lois : Does its job for a great price
I bought this during Prime Day at half price. At first I had issues with it sealing sauce and was really disappointed. The I watched video's from other manufacturers and tried their ideas. I got a really big coffee mug, wide mouth, cut the bag so it could flip over almost 3", put 6 ladles of sauce in the bag, being careful not to get the part wet that would have to seal, if I got a splash I wiped it off, put it on the stove top, bent the bag so most of the air was already out, I locked the bag in and pressed down on the front part, some moisture sauce started to go up to the vacuum chamber but I had just enough bag it stopped and sealed, perfect. I am glad I did not give up.
Dee Devon : Great suction!
When I first tried this food saver, I was disappointed until I took more time to get things lined up right. It is a nifty little gadget! I have frozen green beans, corn, meatballs. I use it to refrigerate cheese and deli meats. I also just used it to seal my grandma’s silver serving spoons and forks after polishing them. I plan to seal some important papers and pictures to store. I know there are more uses for this little sealer machine!
sevans : One of the Best Investments I've Ever Made
I bought this sealer in March 2019 and have vac'd and sealed +/- 100 pieces of steak, chicken or ground beef. This unit works great and I've never thrown away any poorly sealed bags or frozen meat that was sealed by this machine. Follow the instructions and don't be stingy with the bags if you make your own.
I rinse steaks and chicken before sealing. You have to pat them relatively dry before sealing otherwise the moisture will suck up towards the end of the bag which will interfere with the sealing of the bag.
Better to cut your bags long rather than try to save money on bags. If there are creases (folds) in the bag when you lock down the lid from the bag being too short you won't get a good seal.
Instructions say not to store the machine with the lid closed as it may damage the gasket. Mine was shipped with the lid open and a cardboard 'tent' keeping the lid from closing. I store my machine with this piece of cardboard in place.
Once I've sealed a bag I don't open the lid for 30 to 60 seconds allowing the pressure from the lid to stay on the bag until cooled. This helps with getting a good seal.
I highly recommend this vacuum sealer.

Michael W. : Sous Vide and more
I've been going crazy now sealing everything I can, even opening bags to reseal. At first I thought the machine wasn't working properly but then I realized it was user error. I would vac/seal an item and the seal wouldn't take for some reason. I ended up realizing that I was stopping it short. Once I push vac/seal I just wait, the light will go on/off and then the seal will go on/off. Once it goes off then it is done. Now that I do that I haven't had any issues.
If you do a full vac/seal of something soft i.e. bread then expect it to be squished. Instead, vac/seal to your liking, press stop, and then seal. Simple. I did that with a Costco croissant, the others went bad with 3-4 days of opening. The one I sealed lasted nearly 11 days.
However, I bought this to use with a Sous Vide and it works perfectly.
Lastly, it may not be a 5 star machine but I would give it 4 1/2.
