Fenny z : really good to make healthy snacks
I always want to get food dehydrator machine because I want to make my own dry fruit snack which is healthy. This machine work so nice, easy to operate and the result turn out good. I love it so much. The snack is so delicious. My friend has smaller one, mine is big and which is so neccessary. I also use this to make so many different dry food and spices. Can't tell how good is.
LeeAnn : Carefully examine the dehydrator
This will be an on-going review since I just received my dehydrator today.
The packaging was pretty awesome. It had foam and cardboard around the top and bottom of the dehydrator. The only problem was when I took it out of the box, I noticed that the top near the front of the dehydrator was dented in. It looks like someone had put some weight on the box and then noticed the sign that says DO NOT STEP ON. I went ahead and set it up and began preparing my first test.
I preheated the dehydrator per instruction, but when I put my fruit in, it would not give me the option to set the temperature at 145F., per the recipe. The only choices I had were 140 or 149.
So, you can't always follow the recipe temps. This recipe (Spiced Apple Chips, although I used pears because that was the only thing I had available at the time) was from the paper cookbook that the company sent to you. Speaking of recipes, there are 25 jerky recipes, 9 fruit, 9 snack, and 4 sweets recipes. I think there should be more variety, I mean were are the veggies?
As far as the dehydrator itself, it is so quiet that I thought it wasn't on. THAT I love. I had an Excalibur for years and that darn thing was so loud that I had to take sleeping pills!!! (LOL, not really but it was pretty loud) It is the perfect size for my husband and I (6 racks), and now I need to find a smaller cart for it. I just love that the door doesn't come off and that you can see through the front.
I just had to check on that baby one more time, and she is purring very quietly. So far I am loving it, to bad I can't give it a 5 star rating, because of the temp issue, you see.
I will update the review after my pears are done.
UPDATE: The pears are done. The texture is leathery and there is only a mild sweetness to them. They were evenly dehydrated and that was nice. I went ahead and put them in the refrigerator and I could taste more sweetness after a couple of days.
The next experiment is with tomatoes and after that peppers. Will update again.
LAST UPDATE: Tomatoes were evenly dehydrated and the flavor was good.
Peppers: Also evenly dehydrated and crumbled up well. Made a good crushed pepper mix.
OVERALL: The dehydrator does what it says. I am very impressed so far with the product itself. If there are any changes I will add them.
I would give it 4 1/2 stars. (Temp choice bumped it down half a star)

Willy T. : Easy, simple, quite and a ton of racks.
Always wanted to experiment with a food dehydrator. Made beef jerky very easily with this machine in just 6 hours. Easy to program and the LED light is bright to see the action. I chose this specific machine because it is quite. Auto shutdown allows me to sleep easy at night when it finishes. The top of the machine gets warm on the house settings, except the rear of the top can get a tad bit hot. It is not recommended to put anything in top of machine.
