What is the upgrade?

Answer: 1. The handle is widened.

When set for pounds or ounces and the weight is 4 1/2 pounds, does the display read 4.5 pounds or 4 lbs 8oz?

Answer: Ounces. So, 2 lbs displays as 32 ounces. If lbs, then is registers 2.0 pounds and 2 1/2 lbs displays as 2.5 lbs, not 2 lbs 8 oz.

Answer: Yes it does, the tare/zero is listed under the specifications. I was using this to measure wet towels, and was using a small 1 gallon bucket, so I added the bucket, and zero'd it to remove the weight of the bucket.

I'm confused by the pictures. Is the hook pointy or not?

Answer: No, the hook is not pointy. It is made not to put another hole in fish's mouth. I slip the hook under its gill or use a fish grabber and weight it first (without the fish) and set that weight as the tare/zero. Which then, when weighing the fish, the grabber's weight is not in the final number.

Answer: It is a fish scale made for weighing fish......common sense should give you your answer, but since you asked, I have to assume you need someone to answer for you...... As long as the channel catfish you catch doesn't weigh over 110 lbs., then yes, you can weigh it. Good luck!

I tested this product out on a few kitchen items that have the weight printed on them and it was NOT accurate. Measurements were off by more than 1lb. Thought it was a fluke and returned this item for a replacement and the 2nd scale has the same problem.

I replaced the older version Dr Meter that was difficult to see while fishing in the bright AZ sun. So far, I have not had this visibility issue with the upgraded one. I have tested the accuracy and it seems pretty close. I am a little nervous to test the water resistance and try my best to keep it dry. I did use it while fishing in the rain without any issues.

It has the option for oz (0.0) but it doesn't actually register anything lower than 1 oz even though it has the .0. Very disappointing because I need to weigh things that weigh less than an oz.

This scale is accurate. How do I know this...because I compared it to a different digital scale that I use to weigh meat. It’s inexpensive as well. My only worry is that it is very easy to accidentally press the on/off button. If it has an automatic off setting after being idle for too long then that would be great but I honestly don’t know if it does or not. And I haven’t tested whether it is water resistant or not, and don’t plan on it. Overall I’m extremely satisfied with this product.

Bought this to see if my other scale for weighing bass was accurate. Used it to weigh a 2lb roast and it was off by 5oz. Put it in my fishing bag and forgot about it until a few weeks ago when I caught a couple 4+ pound bass .. I think. I used it to weigh one, tried to use it literally 5 minutes later and it wouldn’t turn on. Brought it home and replaced the batteries .. still won’t turn on. So, I weighed 1 pot roast and one fish. ????
I really like the design, wish it worked. I’ve seen some glowing reviews, maybe it’s just a qc issue.

C. Cole : Durable and pretty accurate

I used this to measure a recurve bow draw weight. Having read about draw scales exploding in people's hands, I bought this instead.
Measurements were consistent, but consistently 2%-5% low. Not a bad deal for the price.
I tied two 45lb weights to the scale to test for hand explosions. It handles the 90lbs fine and the initial jerk to raise the weights probably brings the durability past 100lb. It did measure about 1.5lbs low, but it had the same reading each time.
The error percentage seems to shrink at higher weights. A 5lb weight measures 4.72lb and 10lbs measures 9.71lbs. Assuming the Weider plates are within the +/- 1% range, the scale is probably 2%-5% off. Oddly, 25lbs was right on the mark.
If you want extreme accuracy, get a more expensive scale. If you're using this for luggage, fish, or bows, I would very much recommend it.

I repeatedly weighed four dumbbells (5,10,15,20 lbs) and found the scale to be ACCURATE and RELIABLE. The concealed hook slot in the back of the scale prevents tangling and snagging during storage and retrieval. Be smart and keep it out of water since it's not waterproof. It's inexpensive, small and lightweight. Purchase it.

Wanted a small,compact scale to weigh my bikes. This fit the bill perfectly. My only minor gripe is that I wish it had a bigger hook but considering it's a fish scale it is what it is. The handle slides down to make it more compact. Has a nice bright blue back screen can weigh objects in lbs or km. Also has a built in measuring tape which I'll probably never use but once again this is a fish scale. Highly recommend this scale if you need a portable compact scale for weighing anything anything from. 5lbs up to 110lbs which is the max it can handle. Would make a cool stocking stuffer

I am a little late on this review, but I just happen to stumble onto this previous purchase and wanted to share. This scale looked well made, and functioned great......for only 3 actual uses. Not 3 fishing trips, but 3 actual uses (I have ponds on my property). It was stored in my tackle box, in my shed, and after 3 weeks of receiving it. It just stopped working. Not the batteries, no damage, didn't get wet, etc. The junk just stopped working. I do not recommend this scale to anyone.

Dr. Meter was consistently under by 1/4 lb or so. Since I want to weigh fish between 1 and 5 pounds, the scale is pretty useless.

This scale has worked pretty good so far. I've been using it for about 2 months now and have weighed fish from .25 to 15Lbs. It seems to be holding up pretty well, the beep sound when turning it on has gotten a little strange sounding though. The tape measure is a little chinsy but it works to get a quick measurement.
For the price I'd say give it a try if you are in need of a scale.

Display is of very poor quality, it can be read only at certain angle. The device is not suitable for fishing at all, 0 water resistant, even a small exposure to water makes it not functional.

Truth Seeker : Versatile Measuring Scale

This (fish) scale is very easy to use and applicable in a host of different circumstances where weight needs to be calibrated. I bought it to establish the quantity of lawn chemicals I needed spread to keep our lawn healthy during this summers hot humid weather. It completely eliminated the guesswork in that aspect of the process. I also will use it to weigh my luggage for flights, should they become safe in the future. The scale is not expensive and seems rather sturdy. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

It only got used to weigh my luggage for an international trip, but (sadly) I didn't catch any fish large enough to weigh or measure with it. I found that it "added" about 2# to my bags, when compared to the airlines' scale, which was fine by me. I didn't want to incur overweight charges. For weighing luggage, I found I needed to grip the body of the scale, as the top bar was too small to hold 40-50# weights. I like the unit. Now, only if some big fish would bite!

We purchased this in order to accurately weigh our ferrets weekly. The kitchen scale doesn’t work, because they won’t stay still. We attach a hammock to the hook, hold the scale up, and place the ferret in the hammock. That’s the only way to get them to stay still long enough to get accurate weights.
