What is the upgrade?

Answer: 1. The handle is widened.

When set for pounds or ounces and the weight is 4 1/2 pounds, does the display read 4.5 pounds or 4 lbs 8oz?

Answer: Ounces. So, 2 lbs displays as 32 ounces. If lbs, then is registers 2.0 pounds and 2 1/2 lbs displays as 2.5 lbs, not 2 lbs 8 oz.

Answer: Yes it does, the tare/zero is listed under the specifications. I was using this to measure wet towels, and was using a small 1 gallon bucket, so I added the bucket, and zero'd it to remove the weight of the bucket.

I'm confused by the pictures. Is the hook pointy or not?

Answer: No, the hook is not pointy. It is made not to put another hole in fish's mouth. I slip the hook under its gill or use a fish grabber and weight it first (without the fish) and set that weight as the tare/zero. Which then, when weighing the fish, the grabber's weight is not in the final number.

This is one of the best first skills I have ever owned. I’ve had two other ones Rapala & Bass pro and this one is the best ever. The price was very reasonable.

Needed a budget scale, this one works but is not very accurate. Grams or small weights are not the target. Measures change from try to try which is not logic. If you don’t mind about decimals this is OK.

Screen light is annoying at night, whisked it had a level to reduce brightness. On the day is fine however. Another issue is that you need to view screen at a certain level, or else numbers will fade, this is particular is the worst part.

Very basic, no bells and whistles but I did not need anything else.

Really love this scale and have used it many times. After someone at the lake questioned the accuracy of it I took it home and put a 3 lb weight on it. Its reading 1/2 of a pound shy of accuracy. Would've been willing to return for a replacement but my window closed to do so 4 days ago.

I use this for fishing and its off by about 0.2 pounds, not very happy with that; also it stopped working with very little water getting on it; that might be fixable though by putting a thin layer of silicone over the cracks.

Easy to use

Con- Would not recommend getting wet... which the things it weighs (fish) come from a thing called "water" which is pretty wet. (crazy I know). I've had fish slime on this unit and had it rained on, did make some goofy sounds powering on, then went away. Does not talk about water resistance or waterproofing through description.

I believe the only true con based on use would be the tape measure being comically small. Why have a 110 pound scale if the tape only goes 38". I would say the tape is a great idea, but it's pretty worthless if you intend to catch fish bigger than 15 pounds, which you are or else you wouldn't order a 110 pound scale. Many can solve this by measuring half the fish and what not, sure that works... But the product should have this solved for you. Make the scale another inch longer to hold another 30 more inches of tape measure and the problem is solved. In respect to luggage use, the tape measure probably is perfect, for fishing, not so much. I would recommend to anyone, given they have room for a real tape measure if fishing for big game.

Wanted a small,compact scale to weigh my bikes. This fit the bill perfectly. My only minor gripe is that I wish it had a bigger hook but considering it's a fish scale it is what it is. The handle slides down to make it more compact. Has a nice bright blue back screen can weigh objects in lbs or km. Also has a built in measuring tape which I'll probably never use but once again this is a fish scale. Highly recommend this scale if you need a portable compact scale for weighing anything anything from. 5lbs up to 110lbs which is the max it can handle. Would make a cool stocking stuffer

BUYER BEWARE!!!! Used this on a fishing outing 1 time and then a few days later, went fishing again and it wouldn’t even turn on, plus there are spots of rust all along th measuring tape where the tape may have ‘touched’ my wet fish the first time when I was measuring it. Such a complete waste of money and would NOT recommend purchasing this scale AT ALL for fishing. What a disappointment...and now I have to look for another to buy for fishing and I’m out $13.

I didn't use this but a couple of times and in less than a year it stopped working. It needs to be more water tight and higher quality battery terminals. Note, this was used in salt water.

UPDATE: The customer service people came through big time. After reading my review, the customer service people for Dr. Meter contacted me and sent me a free replacement unit without me even asking. Kudos to them for their customer service comittment.

I love this little scale. It is so simple to use and when I'm pulling in a nice bass and I'm wanting to get that weight and get him back in the water in a timely manner this scale is unbeatable. It is accurate, quick and simple to use, and compact so I can just slip it into any pocket so its available at anytime. Now I haven't dunked it into a bucket of water or tossed in the pond but while fishing it has been splashed many times and handled with wet hands and is still operating flawlessly.

Avoided the over priced bicycle scales by purchasing this instead. It could use a larger size and coated hook but I was able to MacGyver my way to a couple of solutions for both hanging the scale from a higher ceiling as well as hanging the bike and putting it onto the scale with a strap.

I bought the scale 2 months ago and when I got it I tried it out on something that weighed a can of peas or something just because I had it next to me and it was pretty close so I assumed it was a fairly good and balanced scale. Then I started fishing and some of the weights seemed... off. So I went back home and weighed some dried food and the more stuff weighs the more the scale is off. First set of items were supposed to weigh 2.11 lbs and it shows up at 2.28... not THAT bad .17 off. Second set were supposed to weigh 4.22 lbs and it shows up at 4.61 pounds which is .39 off. Third set were supposed to weigh 6.33 lbs and it shows up at 6.96 lbs which is .63 off. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because I can kind of 'fudge' the numbers and get a general idea since I'm not trying to break state records or anything and am just weighing the fish for fun. If something weighs 2 lbs then subtract .2 if something weights 4 lbs then subtract .4 etc etc etc...

Bought this to see if my other scale for weighing bass was accurate. Used it to weigh a 2lb roast and it was off by 5oz. Put it in my fishing bag and forgot about it until a few weeks ago when I caught a couple 4+ pound bass .. I think. I used it to weigh one, tried to use it literally 5 minutes later and it wouldn’t turn on. Brought it home and replaced the batteries .. still won’t turn on. So, I weighed 1 pot roast and one fish. ????
I really like the design, wish it worked. I’ve seen some glowing reviews, maybe it’s just a qc issue.

Ella : Unadvertised smart-ass useless lock feature which can't be turned off

This product is a joke. I needed to measure the resistance of the pretty heavy exercise cords one end of which are attached to the wall. For that I was trying to hook the other end to the device and walk with the device hooked to the end of the cord to measure the resistance. Half way through the device would lock the weight after about 2 seconds. This is just ridiculous. This feature is not advertised. This feature can't be turned off. Thus, this feature is nothing more than a SMART-ASS useless feature. I already requested the return of the item.

Bought this scale for bass fishing and it's worked out great. It's a good size to fit in my tackle bag as well. I've tested the accuracy and it's within .01 lb. Would definitely recommend.

I used this to measure a recurve bow draw weight. Having read about draw scales exploding in people's hands, I bought this instead.
Measurements were consistent, but consistently 2%-5% low. Not a bad deal for the price.
I tied two 45lb weights to the scale to test for hand explosions. It handles the 90lbs fine and the initial jerk to raise the weights probably brings the durability past 100lb. It did measure about 1.5lbs low, but it had the same reading each time.
The error percentage seems to shrink at higher weights. A 5lb weight measures 4.72lb and 10lbs measures 9.71lbs. Assuming the Weider plates are within the +/- 1% range, the scale is probably 2%-5% off. Oddly, 25lbs was right on the mark.
If you want extreme accuracy, get a more expensive scale. If you're using this for luggage, fish, or bows, I would very much recommend it.

Works great! Personally I have weighed up to 10lb with it no problem. Also works great for fishing just not waterproof as I dropped my buds in the water accidently

Summary: Bought this to aid in evaluating products. In the first application, I am testing how strong the magnets are for a magnetic door stop, specifically how much force is required to unlatch the door. In the second application, I am testing the spring strength for a dog run setup.

Pros: Easy to use; beep upon read; memory feature; back-lighting; large display; built-in tape measure (did not use).

Cons: Some have commented that a "max" feature would be good; and it would be useful. When measuring the spring, I was not able to get it to lock in a reading, so I used an average reading (25-30 pounds).

Conclusion: Useful tool, easy to use.

Works great and their variance is also less, like 5grams 10 grams. where I have seen other expensive ones with much higher values. i can see, the company that made this is serious in their product and sincere.

Works great. Yes it’s portable for fishing but I actually use this to tension the belts on my CNC machine. This works great.
