Answer: oh yeah...snakes have no chance with this! just make sure at least install this with a 5’ handle in case you miss your aim

Answer: It sure would. I have a 5 prong frog gig too. I like this one way better. I actually bent the prongs out some to get a wider area. Points are sharp. I use it for gigging gar at night in my pond. We have snagged a couple snakes too.

Answer: it doesn't suppose to come with a handle

Does it float?

Answer: no will slowly sink as water get inside where the sections fit inside each other. If you drop it while wade fishing, it wouldn't sink like a solid metal rod so you'd have a few seconds to grab it. I drilled a hole through the handle end, ran some para cord with a small foam float made from a pool noodle

What is the thickness of the metal tubes? Not very thin walls? Do not bend when hit?

Answer: The aluminum tube is corrugated 25 thousands inch aluminum. It's durable and strong enough to gaff a 10 pound fish or gig a 2 pound frog without excess flex or bend. The weak point is the spring steel and ball used to latch the extensions and end piece. They'll probably work for years in fresh water but the salt water took a toll on those parts so I just extended to the length I normally used it and drilled a hole for a stainless steel screw to replace the ball and spring assembly.

We actually screwed this to the end of a telescoping paint pole. We use it for snagging gar in my 6 acre pond off the dam wall. The spear tips are very sharp. The barbs do well holding gar just fine. A lot of 18" to 30" gar left after a lake flood caused back flow into my pond. Would recommend.

Looks like a Quality ITEM. Good welds at the joints. very Sharp. Many barbs in a circle configuration. Covers more area than just a frog gig. I would tackle a snake and or any big fish with this Gig. I would like to mount this on an Hawaiian
sling for greater coverage area and better retention of giged fish or snake. I have done lots of under water gigging with an Hawaii sling (pole that is rubber band powered). This Gig is better made and welded than any I have ever used.

When extended and twisted to stay in place if you apply a moderate downward force, say like gigging a frog or fish, it starts to slide back into itself, taking it out for carp today but don’t have high hopes that it will withstand the test.
