Can i use this machine by turkey power?

Answer: Yes, I find Turkey power is far more superior than electricity itself.

What is the maximum amount of time it can work at once?

Answer: The timer has a max setting of 19.5 hours. After that it automatically shuts down.

Can you buy replacement racks for this model?

Answer: Yes. The 9 tray shares the same trays as a six tray samson silent dehydrator. There is a listing for a 3 pack.

Is it just the trays that are stainless? What is the outside made out of?

Answer: Just the trays. Outside and front cover seem to be plastic. Not an issue for me. Also included are plastic liners for each tray for small items and one fruit leather liner. I live in a small house and the fan noise is not an issue (not like the last unit I used).

Answer: The entire unit with the exception of the trays and fan are plastic. If you are considering one of these I can highly recommend it.

Rather than curing a whole (unsliced) seasoned filet roast by hanging in a dry place for weeks, can I use this dehydrator to shorten the process?

Answer: I have not used it to dehydrator meat. But I have read several reviews of people who did this. Also there are cookbooks that explain how to use the dehydrator to make jerky.

Are replacement trays or fruit leather trays available for purchase?

Answer: Although I haven't purchased any, I remember seeing replacement trays on Amazon. Otherwise I'm sure you could contact the manufacturer.

Has anyone owned the Excalibur? I am trying to see if it's more compact than the 9-tray that I own.

Answer: It's big. Takes up 17.5"(L) x 13.5"(W) of counter space, and then you need some space in front of it to take the front cover off and pull out the trays. It stands 16" tall. Hope that helps.

Answer: Also, though I loved the Excalibur, because of it's size, fitting the trays in the dishwasher was always a challenge.

Can you removed or replace the plastic drip tray with SS?

Answer: The drip tray is removable and washable. I'm sure you could find a replacement id needed.

Answer: I switched to the Excalibur dehydrator. Have had it for a couple of years. No problems. You get what you pay for.

Answer: Yes, it will make chips out of fruits and veggies! There should be recipes in all dehydrator recipe books

Answer: It has a timer that you set and the unit shuts off automatically after that length of time. However, it does not sense moisture levels or shut off automatically when the food is dry.

Answer: I bought Homey 10 pack flexible non stick reusable liners (14 x 14 inch) for fruit leather. I trimmed it down to size. The fruit mix peeled off fairly easy once dry enough.

How long does it take to make jerky in this machine?

Answer: I use it to make beef jerky (out of top round) and chicken jerky for my dogs. Beef takes about 6 hours (5-6 pounds) of raw meat. And the chicken takes about 14 hours. The machine comes with instructions for cooking various meats, fruits and vegetables. It is very quiet and when the need arises I would not hesitate to buy another.

So, I looked for one that had stainless steel shelves, and decided upon the Samson. I've done bell peppers, poblanos and jalopenas. Honeycrisp apple rings, peach slices, and my son's new fave snack - banana chips. My cupboards are now well-prepped for a natural disaster or Zombie Apocalypse. Already planning our garden for next year with preservation in mind.

I bought Teflon sheets to use with this and with those and the included shelves and plastic liners I have dehydrated everything I've tried successfully. Sometimes I have to run things through a second time but that's no problem. Much better than the round one I was given by a friend which did inspire me to go further and get a better one.

I am very happy with my new dehydrator and have been using it quite a bit since I got it. The main reason I bought this dehydrator was the 5 year warranty and that it was supposed to be quieter than other dehydrators, and it is. I love the stainless steel trays, since most things these days are plastic. The trays are easy to clean. They fit nicely in my sink so I soak them a while and then stuck on pieces come off easily. I had a dehydrator with round trays and they didn't fit in my sink so couldn't soak them and that made them hard to clean. Very happy with my purchase.

Nous avions commandé un appareil en "stainless steel" d'une marque chinoise et bien coté. L'appareil ne fonctionnait pas du tout à la réception. Nous voulions 12 plateau pour avoir plus de rentabilité. Nous avons donc vu celui-ci. Il avait 9 plateau, toutefois ils sont plus large, ce qui revient environ à la même capacité. Fonctionne à merveille, les commandes sont simples: température et délais, voilà tout. Côté bruit, c'est le ventilateur, toutefois tous les appareils de déshydratation font environ le même bruit. On l'entend, mais c'est comme un ventilateur, donc pas de soucis. Le modèle vient avec plateau de métal ET de plastique. Ce qui est idéal car ça ne colle pas! Très satisfait. De plus il s'agit d'un appareil garantie 5 ans et fabriqué aux États-Unis.

Une dernière chose: La température est en Fahrenheit.

Jungle Jim : Makes Loud Annoying High Pitched Whining

The fan on this unit makes a low rumbling kind of nice background noise. However, it also makes a periodic loud high pitched whining noise that is unacceptably annoying. If you have ever heard what it sounds like when you run a wet finger around the top edge of a wine glass, that is what it sounds like. Silent? Absolutely not. Having said that, if the whining noise was not there it would be okay to keep. As it is now I will be returning it for an exchange in the hope I got a rogue whiner. Other than that high pitch noise the unit is what was expected. The whiner is a deal breaker, especially when it advertises it is SILENT!

I returned the unit and ordered a replacement. The same annoying high pitch noise was present in the replacement unit. It gave me a headache. I returned the second unit as well. I truly wish this thing was silent like it says. Other than noise unit works as expected. I downgraded from a two star to a one star for all the work returning two units. What a pain!

The machine is great at what it’s used for but silent, IT IS NOT. I have to find another room to put it in because I have it in my kitchen now. My den is on the other side of my kitchen snd we really have to kick up the volume on the TV Because the dehydrator is so loud. Strawberry fruit leather turned out great. It took a little longer because I set the temperature lower than recommended. When shopping for a dehydrator, I noticed many had plastic trays. I wondered if they'd warp from using over time like the one I replaced. I found it's expensive to replace them. The stainless steel racks look like they'll hold up for a long time. The fan, the timer, and heating element worked like they're supposed to. I'm pleased with this dehydrator overall.

We are yet to use the machine, but to our shock and dismay there is NO mechanism for us to choose the temperature readings unit. The big majority of appliances these days even when built in the US give us the option to choose. Utterly appalling that a Korean-origin machine like this would not! Especially considering that ALL settings are in hard, pure, nice round values in degrees Celsius, example, 40, 45, 50... 70. To what extent one would go to see instead numbers like 113, 122, 158... This is akin to calling the Indy 500 like Indy 805. If the original is a rational value, please keep it that way, if you must choose one scale, it is just common sense. Besides this machine is being sold in Canada! We are metric here, eh! :). Thanks for listening.
