Product reviews of Lew's Laser XL 60 4.2:1 Casting Reel
Chris Blankenship : Smooth like melted butter
Very smooth casting and retrieving is like spreading soft butter. For the price I love it. Made these my channel cat reels paired with ugly stixs. I would buy these reels again. Should be durable..
Ben Wimberley : Handle is bent
Name brand of Lew's ...but would not recommend any used stuff ....stuff gets overlooked and you end up with the problem
Amazon Customer : Cast control knob came off
Cast control knob came off and can't get parts from lews and bad customer service
J.Michael : Great reel
Love the reel, haven’t hooked up on a huge cat yet but caught a 16 pounder and a 12 pounder along with a bunch of 5s and it did wonderful. Paired it with an ugly stick Striper rod, my favorite cat combo.
Michael Kindt : Worth every dollar
I'm very pleased with this real cast smooth reel smooth when retrieving the line in and the drag is phenomenal
Bub : Won’t hold up
I would give a zero if I could when I got it it was all scratched up and look like it had been used hard save ur money and just buy a abu Garcia 6500 c for 60 more bucks this is junk
Eric : Catfish reel
So far so go. Solid reel.
Over50Nomads : Great Reel
I got this Reel as a gift and I think it is excellent for my cat fishing purposes Casts well, very smooth reel and I like that it’s durable.
1 : Great reel for the money!!!
Use this on my company’s catfish rod and love it. Boated a lot of blue cats with this little reel and the one pictured was the biggest so far, 71lbs. Handle this fish great.
American Patriot : Can't beat it for the price
The reel is awesome, will definitely buy again
Erica W. : Was hoping for better! (Updated 2/1/21)
Not at all impressed. Nice looking, lightweight reel but has more warts than Id like for $70.00, chief among those being drag issues. On mine, the drag has to be tightened all the way down to be effective at all, which is fine for smaller fish but a real problem with bigger blues, flatheads and stripers. I run 25-lb mono, down to 60-lb leaders to get the kind of line capacity I need, so the results on larger fish are predictable-lots of break-offs. You can’t just horse the big fish out of the water with lighter line and not having a useable drag adjustment causes major issues. Although I am going to stick it out and see if this is a break-in issue, I have seriously cheap reels, like Shakespere Tidewaters and used, 30 year-old Abus that I’ve bought, that I have far more faith in. I was hoping for better value but haven’t gotten it yet.

Still not overly impressed. Good reel for trolling, not for casting. I’ve moved it to a longer, lighter rod and it IS NOT a casting monster, even with 25-lb mono. This reel is plenty strong but it’s never going to be my go-to. Ok for the $$ but my Abu’s and KastKings are safe.
Bub : Won’t hold up
I would give a zero if I could when I got it it was all scratched up and look like it had been used hard save ur money and just buy a abu Garcia 6500 c for 60 more bucks this is junk
Eric : Catfish reel
So far so go. Solid reel.
ROSCO : A good loud reel
I read where this reel is loud when you cast and one of mine is. I have 2. The problem is that you have to listen to it for a 75- 80 yrd cast. With a 3oz weight these reels will cast a large chunk of cut bait past my other reels 15yrds . So far they have handled a 32# and 15 # without a hitch. Even my Abu's make a rackit when you cast.
david bruce : Lews
Works great
Timothy : Great reel for the price
I own two of these reels and have not had any issues with either of them. The casting distance is good out of the box and can be made better if you know how to set up your reel properly. I’ve pulled in several large flathead catfish and it handled them with ease. For the price it’s hard to beat these reels, put some good line on them and you shouldn’t have any problems.
