Questions about TIZZE Pellet Smoker Tube 12" Perforated BBQ Smoke Generator to Add Smoke Flavor to All Grilled Foods
Q:
Is this any better than soaking chips, wrapping in foil and punching holes in the foil?
Answer: If you used soaked wood chip you need something to make them smoke and that’s heat and too much and the cheese melts.
Answer: This is infinitely better. The amount of smoke you can get out of that foil method is only a fraction of what you can get from the tube. I use two tubes at a time and sealed the gaps in my charcoal grill with heat seal tape. The results are similar to using a dedicated smoker. Just make sure you get a good flame to get it started. A propane torch works well, or I sometimes just lay it on a hot coal.
Answer: Yes it is. You can still soak apple wood chips that are small enough, they will last longer. It works with gas grills and pellet grills.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I think so, but I use pellets with this. I fill this with pellets and light one end, then I put this on my grill or in my smoker when I want extra smoke. But one of the best uses for this is for cold smoking cheese or fish. I'll put this in my smoker with out any additional source of heat for cold smoking and it works great.
Q:
How many pellets does it hold?
Answer: About 10. Maybe even as many as 12 if you really push hard on them. I usually just put one pellet in at a time. When it burns up I put in another and keep up the process until the meet is cooked. That way I am more involved in the smoking and can proudly tell everyone how much effort I put into preparing dinner.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Mine only holds one pellet.
Answer: Your question is like guessing how many jelly beans are in the jar. I am going with 7428 at max capacity, maybe 7429 if one is broken in half; something close to 10 ounces.
Q:
What brush? I didn’t get a brush
Answer: I only use a brush for adding some of my personal marinades... Have tried several types of brushes, but I am settled on using the silicone ones that work well for me.... and easy to clean and last a long time....
Q:
Has anyone placed it under the drip plate on a pellet smoker?
Answer: I have not done this.... so have no opinion...
Q:
Where is the best place to put this on a gas grill? I have a problem with the pellets inside catching on fire.
Answer: I put mine right on the cooking grate. Never had a problem with the pellets catching on fire.
Answer: I put mine on the warmer basket that hangs from the top of my grill. You could also put it on foil, keeps the flames from touching it, but remains hot enough to smoke.
Answer: Try putting it as far off to the side as possible.
Answer: I can not say. I could not keep mine burning, so I quit using it.
Q:
We just got ours and are missing the user manual
Answer: If mine had user directions I don't remember it. Using the tube is pretty straight forward. Just fill the tube with smoker pellets, using a propane torch light either just the open end or to double the smoke, anywhere along the length of the tube for more smoke. When I light just the open end, the smoke lasts about 4-5 hours as it burns along the length of the tube.
Answer: It did not have a user manual. All you do is fill it full of pellets and light it on fire on the end then lay it in the grill to add smoke favor to meats. The smoke last for about 3-4 hours.
Answer: No need for a manual, just fill tube with wood pellets or wood chips and light them up from the open end and place them in grill, either regular grill or pellet smoker. You have the option to either fire up the grill or not to add extra smoke or just to slow cool smoke. Sometimes you may want more smoke or use a different flavor wood while doing ribs for instance and another time you may leave the grill off and just use the smoker to do slow smoking as in cheese or salmon. Of course if you do this the outside temperature is a factor. Hope this helps.
Answer: Not really any need for a manual, What I have found is to use hickory pellets I purchased at the hardware store. If you fill it up it will smoke approx. 4/5 hrs. So I fill accordingly. I also use a propane handheld torch to light the pellets, saves a lot of time.
Answer: don't recall getting on either, but having used one before, I didnt need one
Q:
How can I keep the temp down to cold smoke salmon? This tube gets the temp too hot in my electric smoker. It gets up to near 200 degrees.
Answer: To expand on the other two answers about more ventilation: open your top vent all the way, and even remove the chip-loading tube. That should give you maximum airflow. If it's still getting to hot, you can even crack the door, holding it with the latch in its loose position. I haven't exactly measured the interior temp of my Masterbuilt smoker while using this, but I don't think it gets anywhere near 200F. Are you using pellets? (Which is what this was designed for.) And they're not burning with an open flame, are they? They should be just smoking, and therefore not putting out a whole lot of heat.
Answer: Try saturating the wood and placing the tub on a higher rack. If its still too hot, put the tube (with saturated wood) on a couple of rocks inside a pan on the top rack.
Answer: Can you vent your smoker more? It would be difficult to build that much heat unless there is virtually no ventilation.
Answer: Using the same smoker you need to ventilate your smoker, (increase the draft rate)
Q:
Does this come packaged in a box as shown?
Answer: Yes. Please ensure that purchase from "TizzeDirect." TIZZE doesn't authorize other sellers to sell it's branded products on Amazon.
Answer: Yes!
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Is it supposed to have caps on both ends?
Answer: No, you fill it, then light it on the open end.
Answer: It is capped on one end so you can fill it. Nothing falls out the other end once you have the tube burning.
Answer: no, their always open on one end so you can light the ships or pellets.
Answer: no
Answer: Nope
Q:
Can i use chips with it
Answer: I used pellets with a few chips, the chips seemed to burn more than smolder, but it wasn't a big deal. There weren't a lot of chips in the mix. It might goof up cold smoking though.
Answer: Yes. I have used wood chips and it worked well.
Answer: Yeah, if you like BBQ-chips
Answer: sure - but they wont burn anywhere nearly as long as pellets

Wayne H. : Works great!!!!
Allows my pellet smoker to increase the smoky flavor that I love.
Tobin : Easy!!! Almost Idiot proof
This works great!!!! First time I used it, I used oak pellets and smoked cheese for Xmas presents for friends and family. 3/4 full in Weber grill smoked 5 hrs and barely gave off any heat. Perfect for cheese!!! Filled with pellets, turned on side, lit with torch for about 30 seconds until flame would stay lit. Let burn for 2 minutes, blew flame out and off we go!! Highly recommended! I’m going to order a few more for my file cabinet smoker and have an extra.
Bruce D : Expect a learning curve
It works well when you get the burn just right. I use it to achieve adequate smoke in a pellet smoker, but it is awkward to position it where you can light it with a propane torch, and then move it to a good spot for even smoke distribution. In other words, the tube needs to be set high enough for the torch flame to get it lit, which is out of position for the resulting smoke to do any good. This is no fault of the product quality itself, but more the nature of the beast.
In order to keep it from going out, I get a good burn going for 5 minutes or so before lifting and lowering it with plyers to a spot below the racks. This keeps the smoke moving around the food, and it will smoke for several hours.
patricia L. Hampton : Flavor comes from the pellets used to smoke with not the device.
Is easy to use holds pellets firmly if you pack them properly inside tube.
Aphrael : Works Great For Cold Smoking On My Patio With My Inexpensive DIY "Smoke House".
This smoker tube has worked perfectly for me, although so far I've only used with A-MAZE-N pellets. It is easy to light with a propane torch. I fill the tube, stand it on end, and hold the torch flame on the pellets for about 15 seconds to get them lighted and burning well. I leave the tube standing upright to burn for a few minutes, then blow out the flames and lay it on it's side in the smoker. Before using it, I was wondering if the pellets would fall out when I lay on its side - but no problem with that. The tube has always stayed lit and smoking for almost 4 full hours.
I'm using this with perhaps the worlds least costly cold smoker, which is just a large carboard box. I sit the smoker tube on the patio on top of a tuna fish can to keep it slightly off the concrete. I place my turkey legs, or whatever, on a cake cooling rack that I place on top of two empty #2-1/2 tin cans that straddle the smoker tube. Then I set the cardboard box over all of that. I did find that this set up can retain too much smoke without a significant top ventilation opening to vent the smoke and allow smoke to flow past and over the meat. Without that, the smoke taste was waay too strong and dirty tasting.
I'm very pleased with the device and have no hesitation to recommend and give 5-star review.
Update: I've upgraded my cold smoker in the form of a new galvanized metal garbage can, purchased on sale for $15, with perforated steel grating for trays. Perhaps that seems a bit silly, but being retired. I have more time than money available . . . and this garbage-can-cold-smoker is very large compared to the tiny commercial smokers. I've also learned that it isn't necessary to use the expensive extruded wood "chips." Our local sporting goods store sells a bag of "Smokehouse" brand small sticks and chips of wood for smokers for about 1/3 the cost of what the extruded chips sell for by weight. The tube burns out a little faster when filled with these "chips", but it is still about half the effective cost for smoke wood. And it is less likely that these natural chips are adulterated with a cheap "filler" wood.
Bridget Blake : nice gadget
not great quality, but works for a while until it starts to char and look as if it needs to go in the trash.
Cody L. Conrad : Turn your grill into a smoker
I think these of the best edition can possibly have for your grill. I recommend lighting them with a heat gun. Is your so good I have my colleagues buying them I purchased 2 for my brother as well as some pellets. It turns any grill into a Traeger.
Megatron : Awesome additional tool in the culinary arsenal.
I use 2 of these things all the time. Literally turns your gas grill into a smoker. I have made jerky, chicken, beef ribs, pork ribs, and smoked cheeses with these things. The best part is for $20, it turns your existing grill into a smoker. I am not saying this will ever out perform a dedicated smoker, but it is really useful. I would definitely recommend.
Jim : It smokes
Loaded it with pellets and lit with a micro torch. Burned to complete ash. Smoked @
3 hrs. Better than using a chip box.
I am happy with it and would be again
John Murphy : Good for steaks
Incredable addition to my Traeger..Traeger burn very clean at 250 or higher...not enough smoke flavor(for me). This tube puts smoke out for 4+ hours. Good for steaks. Also turn off the Traeger and use the smoke tube on one side and put cheese on the other..smoked cheese w/o the melting or oiling. My pro 34 did 8 lbs at a time.
Tube is a bit hard to light and get going..just propped open the lid with a clothes pin to let air to the tube. Still learning. Having fun.
Way to Go : Works great!
Worth the money! Works like it should! Would buy again!
N. A. S. : Wo
The tube works great after 3 or 4 times lighting it. Once it starts to smoke it works great. I would have given it a 5 star if it wasn't so hard to start.
Wayne H. : Works great!!!!
Allows my pellet smoker to increase the smoky flavor that I love.
Eddie : Best buy
Great little smoker , strong ok flavor ..
JBrough : this item is great
This item works great - it holds the pellets in during smoking. The pellets lasted about 1 1/2 hours. Next time I will soak some of them to see if it makes a difference in smoke time.

James R Bates : Didn't work on the Green Egg
Pellets would not stay lit in the Green Egg. They would burn for about 4 or 5 minutes, then go out. Fresh name brand hickory pellets. I think the low air flow in the Egg was the issue. Cooking at 250 degrees.
Kevin R : should have bought sooner
Not sure what took me so long to buy one of these but they are great!

shannon Gooch : Added Smoke
I have been smoking meat on traditional wood burn smokers for many years. I decided to try and minimize my effort of maintaining a traditional wood smoker and purchased a pellet smoker. Though it cooks well, you do NOT get that smoke flavor like you do with a traditional wood fired smoker. I actually decided to get rid of it after 5 uses, but the guy never came to pick it up. It sat in the backyard for a year and I decided to get it out again and try and figure out how to get more flavor from it. In my search, I came across these tubes. I figured what do I have to loose? I am pretty impressed. It added much more flavor to my meat and was easy to use. Like some people say, you need to try and get it below where the meat is or you will loose some of the smoke because it stays above the meat and escapes through the stack. My first attempt was on the grate next to the meat and I was still pretty impressed. I will continue to use it. It did burn for about 4 hours and that is really all the meat absorbs anyway. Would recommend

LDS : Great for wood pellets
This tube is great for wood pellets on the grill. It is easy to load and empty. Just don't let unused pellets sit inside and get wet in the rain. The pellets will swell and turn into concrete that is difficult to remove!
Clara Bow : Easy to use !
We like it to cold smoke cheese . Great little tool !
James W. McCutcheon Jr. : Love it!
I use it to cold smoke cheese, salmon and to add extra smoke to the grill when cooking meats.
Vaughn : Works great
Worked better than expected. Thick smoke for over six hours and no problem with it going out. Used pellets from wal mart and lit them with a heat gun. Let them flame for about a minute and put it on the bottom shelf of my Masterbuilt electric smoker. Plenty of smoke and without the smoker being turned on it was 165 degrees inside.
Kelly T. Kendrick : This works incredibly well. Use a heat gun to light it. Nothing else.
If you don’t have one of these you are NUTS! Works incredibly well. I use it with a big green egg to get that extra smoke. Also with my pellet grill. Works REALLY well when cold smoking salmon.
This will convert a cardboard box into a smoker!!
This is important. The VERY best way to light this is with a heat gun. Forget matches, candles, torches etc. just use a heat gun and lighting is super fast and reliable every time.
Cerebral Knievel : This thing is great! Fill it up with pellets
This thing is great! Fill it up with pellets. And it slowly churns out a gentle smoke for a few hours.
On the first use.. I did a 12# pork shoulder.. indirect heat.. 220°f for 8 hours till a 180°f internal temp reading..
I had to refill the tube twice.. and the flavor was perfect

I will use it for smoking cheeses when the weather cools down.
When I ordered it the description of the product said it came with the brush and hook so was a little but disappointed.
Fred J. Noel : Lots of smoke for a really long time.
Really puts out a lot of smoke for a long time. Still learning how to get the most out of smoking on my Weber has grill.
Steven : Great flavor and lots of smoke
Great flavor. Lost of smoke
Mr&Mrs.Taylor : As expected
Works...typical
Jr : Highly recommended for that extra smoke flavor
I used this product on both my Traeger 1300 Timberline and Weber grill and it just ups the smoke flavor 110%. Only downside is a basic lighter won’t light the pellets you’ll need a little propane torch to get the pellets going. You can buy one of these torches on Amazon for 20$.

Love this. Out green mountain one is circular and rolls sometimes and gets ash on food. This one doesn’t move if accidentally bumped.
Charles Knouse : Best thing since sliced bread!
I wish that I had bought this years ago. Perfect for cold smoking. I was concerned that it would burn out, but it doesn’t. When used with pellets, it will make a lot of smoke inside any grill for at least 5 hours. The temp does not rise above 80F
