Questions about TIZZE Pellet Smoker Tube 12" Perforated BBQ Smoke Generator to Add Smoke Flavor to All Grilled Foods
Q:
Is this any better than soaking chips, wrapping in foil and punching holes in the foil?
Answer: If you used soaked wood chip you need something to make them smoke and that’s heat and too much and the cheese melts.
Answer: This is infinitely better. The amount of smoke you can get out of that foil method is only a fraction of what you can get from the tube. I use two tubes at a time and sealed the gaps in my charcoal grill with heat seal tape. The results are similar to using a dedicated smoker. Just make sure you get a good flame to get it started. A propane torch works well, or I sometimes just lay it on a hot coal.
Answer: Yes it is. You can still soak apple wood chips that are small enough, they will last longer. It works with gas grills and pellet grills.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I think so, but I use pellets with this. I fill this with pellets and light one end, then I put this on my grill or in my smoker when I want extra smoke. But one of the best uses for this is for cold smoking cheese or fish. I'll put this in my smoker with out any additional source of heat for cold smoking and it works great.
Q:
How many pellets does it hold?
Answer: About 10. Maybe even as many as 12 if you really push hard on them. I usually just put one pellet in at a time. When it burns up I put in another and keep up the process until the meet is cooked. That way I am more involved in the smoking and can proudly tell everyone how much effort I put into preparing dinner.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Mine only holds one pellet.
Answer: Your question is like guessing how many jelly beans are in the jar. I am going with 7428 at max capacity, maybe 7429 if one is broken in half; something close to 10 ounces.
Q:
What brush? I didn’t get a brush
Answer: I only use a brush for adding some of my personal marinades... Have tried several types of brushes, but I am settled on using the silicone ones that work well for me.... and easy to clean and last a long time....
Q:
Has anyone placed it under the drip plate on a pellet smoker?
Answer: I have not done this.... so have no opinion...
Q:
Where is the best place to put this on a gas grill? I have a problem with the pellets inside catching on fire.
Answer: I put mine right on the cooking grate. Never had a problem with the pellets catching on fire.
Answer: I put mine on the warmer basket that hangs from the top of my grill. You could also put it on foil, keeps the flames from touching it, but remains hot enough to smoke.
Answer: Try putting it as far off to the side as possible.
Answer: I can not say. I could not keep mine burning, so I quit using it.
Q:
We just got ours and are missing the user manual
Answer: If mine had user directions I don't remember it. Using the tube is pretty straight forward. Just fill the tube with smoker pellets, using a propane torch light either just the open end or to double the smoke, anywhere along the length of the tube for more smoke. When I light just the open end, the smoke lasts about 4-5 hours as it burns along the length of the tube.
Answer: It did not have a user manual. All you do is fill it full of pellets and light it on fire on the end then lay it in the grill to add smoke favor to meats. The smoke last for about 3-4 hours.
Answer: No need for a manual, just fill tube with wood pellets or wood chips and light them up from the open end and place them in grill, either regular grill or pellet smoker. You have the option to either fire up the grill or not to add extra smoke or just to slow cool smoke. Sometimes you may want more smoke or use a different flavor wood while doing ribs for instance and another time you may leave the grill off and just use the smoker to do slow smoking as in cheese or salmon. Of course if you do this the outside temperature is a factor. Hope this helps.
Answer: Not really any need for a manual, What I have found is to use hickory pellets I purchased at the hardware store. If you fill it up it will smoke approx. 4/5 hrs. So I fill accordingly. I also use a propane handheld torch to light the pellets, saves a lot of time.
Answer: don't recall getting on either, but having used one before, I didnt need one
Q:
How can I keep the temp down to cold smoke salmon? This tube gets the temp too hot in my electric smoker. It gets up to near 200 degrees.
Answer: To expand on the other two answers about more ventilation: open your top vent all the way, and even remove the chip-loading tube. That should give you maximum airflow. If it's still getting to hot, you can even crack the door, holding it with the latch in its loose position. I haven't exactly measured the interior temp of my Masterbuilt smoker while using this, but I don't think it gets anywhere near 200F. Are you using pellets? (Which is what this was designed for.) And they're not burning with an open flame, are they? They should be just smoking, and therefore not putting out a whole lot of heat.
Answer: Try saturating the wood and placing the tub on a higher rack. If its still too hot, put the tube (with saturated wood) on a couple of rocks inside a pan on the top rack.
Answer: Can you vent your smoker more? It would be difficult to build that much heat unless there is virtually no ventilation.
Answer: Using the same smoker you need to ventilate your smoker, (increase the draft rate)
Q:
Does this come packaged in a box as shown?
Answer: Yes. Please ensure that purchase from "TizzeDirect." TIZZE doesn't authorize other sellers to sell it's branded products on Amazon.
Answer: Yes!
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Is it supposed to have caps on both ends?
Answer: No, you fill it, then light it on the open end.
Answer: It is capped on one end so you can fill it. Nothing falls out the other end once you have the tube burning.
Answer: no, their always open on one end so you can light the ships or pellets.
Answer: no
Answer: Nope
Q:
Can i use chips with it
Answer: I used pellets with a few chips, the chips seemed to burn more than smolder, but it wasn't a big deal. There weren't a lot of chips in the mix. It might goof up cold smoking though.
Answer: Yes. I have used wood chips and it worked well.
Answer: Yeah, if you like BBQ-chips
Answer: sure - but they wont burn anywhere nearly as long as pellets
Product reviews of TIZZE Pellet Smoker Tube 12" Perforated BBQ Smoke Generator to Add Smoke Flavor to All Grilled Foods
MJ : Smoked cheese...yum!
I bought a pellet grill and was looking for a way to cold smoke. My brother told me about smoking tubes, so I bought this TIZZE tube to try it out. I filled the tube with hickory pellets, started it on fire, and smoked my first batch of cheeses and peppers last week. The smoker lasted as advertised 4 hours. When finished, my cheese was delicious. I would write a longer review, but I have to go smoke some more cheese.
James R Bates : Didn't work on the Green Egg
Pellets would not stay lit in the Green Egg. They would burn for about 4 or 5 minutes, then go out. Fresh name brand hickory pellets. I think the low air flow in the Egg was the issue. Cooking at 250 degrees.
DeeDee : Works good
Works as intended. I can make so many delicious smoked goods now. Going to order one for my dad too. It does take some getting use to tho if it’s your first time using one. It also does take a torch, a lighter won’t cut it.
Mike Smith : Lots of smoke
Great for smoking beef brisket. Works very well and provides about 3 hours of smoke at 235 degrees.
Anna : fast shipping
works well for cheese
Steven : Great flavor and lots of smoke
Great flavor. Lost of smoke
Tobin : Easy!!! Almost Idiot proof
This works great!!!! First time I used it, I used oak pellets and smoked cheese for Xmas presents for friends and family. 3/4 full in Weber grill smoked 5 hrs and barely gave off any heat. Perfect for cheese!!! Filled with pellets, turned on side, lit with torch for about 30 seconds until flame would stay lit. Let burn for 2 minutes, blew flame out and off we go!! Highly recommended! I’m going to order a few more for my file cabinet smoker and have an extra.
Vaughn : Works great
Worked better than expected. Thick smoke for over six hours and no problem with it going out. Used pellets from wal mart and lit them with a heat gun. Let them flame for about a minute and put it on the bottom shelf of my Masterbuilt electric smoker. Plenty of smoke and without the smoker being turned on it was 165 degrees inside.
James W. McCutcheon Jr. : Love it!
I use it to cold smoke cheese, salmon and to add extra smoke to the grill when cooking meats.
Rick History : Handy to put some additional smoke flavor in your bbq
I like the material used... stainless steel. It has plenty of capacity for a long smoke on the bbq. I would have liked to have seen a lid on it. Using pellets makes it more difficult when using on it's side. But, its a great product for the price.
Walt L. : Five Stars
Don’t let any grease git into it that makes it hard to keep lit.
thatPearl : Five Stars
well constructed....works as advertised.
Malcolm Massengill : Smokes a lot.
Adds a lot of smoke flavor.
Mike : No way to control air flow
I have tried this smoker device several times with my gas grill and each time the wood chips burn completely within 5 minutes and there does not appear any way to stop the fire once it starts. I assume that once you figure out how to use it and where to put in inside the grill to cause smoke without fire, then it would be worthwhile. In my opinion there is too much trial and error involved in making it work. I would not buy again.
Paul J. : Three Stars
Doesn't stay lit as well as my square 6" model from another company
moored4 : 2nd time around!
This the 2nd one of these that I have bought and they provide the extra smoke when I need it. and provides cold smoking when I do the cheeses.
Papadoc : Game changer
I've been smoking meat for a couple of decades, so why haven't I heard of this? This changes everything. I've now started smoking spices, cheese, and other stuff that I just didn't think of before because of the heat.
Put your hand over one end and fill it with your favorite pellets. I always bounce it around a few times to help pack the pellets in tightly for a better burn. Lay it down on the rack or wherever and use a torch to light one end. I use a propane torch but I've seen where a few others have used their culinary torch. It takes me about a minute of holding the torch for it to have a flame that I know will last. Let that fire stay for another couple of minutes and then blow it out. Tons of smoke start immediately, and I've been getting far more smoke this way than with my chip burner.
On this particular unit I get about 6 hours of smoke, but your mileage may vary with whatever pellets you use. So far I've been using it in the summer so I was initially concerned about whatever heat that may add to a smoker box on a cold smoke. On average, it jumps the temp by about 5-7 degrees over ambient air temperature, so I'm fine with that.
One note to newbies: It's not surprising that smoke produces a residue as you see this on the inside of any smoker. That's all good and a well-seasoned box produces a better product. That said, if you have your food directly above this thing and too close, that residue will also form on your food and you don't want that. Make sure there is room for the smoke to do a vertical climb and fill the box rather than go straight up onto the food.
MP : My favorite part is...
My favorite thing about this product is that it doesn't roll around! I started off with the "other" brand, which is also great. The problem with the other one is that it would roll around, allowing pellets to come out of the end or roll up against the food.
This is just as sturdy, if not more, than the other brand. I'm very happy with it.
Lonnie Thoms : Used it to make smoked cheese.
Wow. Just WOW! The smoke flavor in my cheese using this is unbelievable!! My buddy has a different kind and comparing the smoke flavor... mine was just better. IMHO. ;) So buy it! Smoke that cheese! :D
Selena Catalina : Long lasting smoke
Burns steady for 4-5 hrs. 1 end is open so don't overfill. Adds some smoke flavor and good smoke ring. Pellet grills, in general, cook great but don't have the smoke flavor that a wood pit can create.
LDS : Great for wood pellets
This tube is great for wood pellets on the grill. It is easy to load and empty. Just don't let unused pellets sit inside and get wet in the rain. The pellets will swell and turn into concrete that is difficult to remove!
Dreamland1973 : Adds extra flavor when you need it!
I've only used it once but had good results.
Evan Wise : Pretty good
Works really well but I have noticed that it uses more fuel and burns faster than the name brand version. But other than that it works great
Anna : fast shipping
works well for cheese
Brad Hegwood : Lasted four hours. Works great.
I filled it with hickory pellets. Lit it and let it burn fit ten minutes. Blew it out. Place it in my gas grille. Lasted 4 hours. First time I smoked in a gas grill. Very pleased with the results.
Amazon Customer : Smoke
These made wonderful Christmas gifts. They really work well and burns to an ash.
CF : A must-have for people that have propane grills.
A really great product if you have a propane grill.
G Haines : How cold it will be when lit.
I will use it for smoking cheeses when the weather cools down.
When I ordered it the description of the product said it came with the brush and hook so was a little but disappointed.
Mr&Mrs.Taylor : As expected
Works...typical
Mike : No way to control air flow

Matthew : Hard to light and keep lit, but works well.
Once you get it lit (standing up) you lay it down on it's side and generally it will stay lit adding a nice smokey flavor to anything you BBQ. Full tube of pellets often burns about 2 hours... so you can slow cook and smoke things on your grill. you won't get the really dark smoke look, like a professional wood smoker but you will still get an incredible flavor.
Mosquite for stronger flavor.. sometimes a little bitter; Apple for sweeter and more mild (Most people will probably like Apple better), or a combination of them both.
shannon Gooch : Added Smoke
I have been smoking meat on traditional wood burn smokers for many years. I decided to try and minimize my effort of maintaining a traditional wood smoker and purchased a pellet smoker. Though it cooks well, you do NOT get that smoke flavor like you do with a traditional wood fired smoker. I actually decided to get rid of it after 5 uses, but the guy never came to pick it up. It sat in the backyard for a year and I decided to get it out again and try and figure out how to get more flavor from it. In my search, I came across these tubes. I figured what do I have to loose? I am pretty impressed. It added much more flavor to my meat and was easy to use. Like some people say, you need to try and get it below where the meat is or you will loose some of the smoke because it stays above the meat and escapes through the stack. My first attempt was on the grate next to the meat and I was still pretty impressed. I will continue to use it. It did burn for about 4 hours and that is really all the meat absorbs anyway. Would recommend
Davo : Great Idea and product
I wish I had found this product sooner, I timed the smoke with hickory pellets at between 4 and 5 hours. I also like that the sides are flat. It keeps the tube from rolling around.

LDeiber : Great value
Works like a charm and adds that extra smoke or makes you able to cold smoke cheese or anything else you could want
robert b : Works great.
Works great. Burns for about 3 hours on chips, and around 4 with pellets. Holds up well. Easy to light and cold off quickly. The stainless steel holds up well.
Mr&Mrs.Taylor : As expected
Works...typical
Rick History : Handy to put some additional smoke flavor in your bbq

Kevin R : should have bought sooner
Not sure what took me so long to buy one of these but they are great!
Mark : Good smoke
I like using it. It's a bit hard to get it to lite right. Still getting use to it.
Tony D : Five Stars
Works great. Saved me the price of a pellet grille.
SDTX : It works great
Ordered with the 5lb bag of smokehouse hickory pellets. Both work terrific in my Smoke Hollow electric smoker. I use a small propane torch to get it going, but the Weber wax cubes do the trick too.
I got about 4.5 hours of solid smoke.
Kevin R : should have bought sooner
Not sure what took me so long to buy one of these but they are great!
Jr : Highly recommended for that extra smoke flavor
I used this product on both my Traeger 1300 Timberline and Weber grill and it just ups the smoke flavor 110%. Only downside is a basic lighter won’t light the pellets you’ll need a little propane torch to get the pellets going. You can buy one of these torches on Amazon for 20$.
Jeff : Easy to use
Works great!
G Haines : How cold it will be when lit.
I will use it for smoking cheeses when the weather cools down.
When I ordered it the description of the product said it came with the brush and hook so was a little but disappointed.
Amazon Customer : Bought as a gift
looks like great product for price
SBizzle : Three Stars
Works as intended, Hard to get lit, need a torch. May want a smaller size
