Questions about FoodSaver, Black/Silver FM5480 2in1 Food Preservation System, reg
Q:
is this the same thing as the 5460 on the food saver website? i notice on the website it comes with more.
Answer: The machine is the same, yes. The difference between the 60 and 80 is the bonus items you get with it; Roll of bags, zip lock bags, a container, and the wine bottle attachment. Ive already used all my bonus items and its only been a little over a week. Not-to-mention, I love the machine. Look around online and local stores and find the best price, but for what I paid, its already paid for itself.
Q:
Does anyone else have a problem with the cord retracting? I just got this model, I really like all it except for the cord problem.
Answer: What I found after trying to get it to go back in after multiple tries over two hours, reading the fine manual, and trial and error, is that for my unit, you pull the cord gently until it stops coming out and then release. Don't yank, pull and then release. But if you don't get it all the way out first, and carefully, it won't retract at all and just hangs there.
Answer: Sorry - can't help - I never retract the power cord. If you're referring to the vacuum hose on the front, mine retracts fine.
Answer: Had this problem on past model where the line was out all the way and would not retract. The fix is to turn the foodsaver up side down and retract. I did find the answer on the internet so I cannot take credit for the fix but ill pass it on....Hope that helps
Answer: Pull the cord out a little farther and it retracts automatically
Answer: We have had ours (From Costco) for a week,,,, and the cord/tube will not retract....
Answer: If you pull it all the way out (gently) then you'll find it retracts all the way - similar to a seat belt.
Answer: Had not had any issues with it.
Q:
Does the package includes "jar sealer"?
Answer: No. The FM5480 does NOT have the jar sealer. Besides the bags, it has one wine bottle stopper and one container. Model FM5460 does have the jar sealer but that model does not appear to be available on Amazon (it is on the FoodSaver's web site). From my research, FoodSaver claims that the 80 and the 60 are the same unit. The only difference is what accessories are included in the box. (The model number stamped in the bottom of my unit is 80.)
Answer: It doesn't include a jar sealer.
Answer: No it does not it comes with a wine bottle sealer a quart left over Tupperware and some starter bags but would highly recommend this machine very happy with it
Answer: yes
Q:
What is the difference between the fm5480 and the fm5460 on the foodsaver website?
Answer: The machine is the same. The only difference is what comes with the starter kit. If you check the one on FS website, that starter kit comes with different stuff than this starter kit for the 5480 which was exclusively made for costco. But all machine features and design is the same. Pricing very different.
Q:
Will this machine handle 50 ft bag rolls?
Answer: Yes
Q:
what is the wattage? it can work on 110 volts, but how much watts?
Answer: Works on standard 110.
Q:
What's the largest width bag that this can seal?
Answer: The largest bag food saver makes. 11 inch i think
Answer: 11 inch
Answer: About 12 inches
Answer: 11 inches
Q:
What are the dimensions of the actual machine? Amazon's product dimensions are typically the size of the box.
Answer: 16 long by 10 wide by 10 high
Q:
What is the warranty
Answer: I know you can buy an extended warranty thru Amazon. It has a 5 year limited warranty detailed in the owner's manual.
Q:
May I know the Wattage of fm5200?
Answer: I don't recall because I threw mine out - worst FoodSaver I ever bought (I've owned 3). I replaced it with the FM2435 -- it works and is even cheaper! Save your time and money!
Answer: Why?
Q:
What are the dimensions of this item?
Q:
What is the difference between the 5000 and the 5460?
Answer: I do not know. The website wk!I tell you or call foodsaver and they will tell you.
Q:
This machine looks like it might be a little awkward to use ,can someone tell me their experience
Answer: It's the one I have and I don't know what would be awkward. You have the tube sealer on top, the regular sealer, then on the bottom the bag maker. You make your bags, then fill them. Once they are filled properly, then hold them in the sealing groove and push the appropriate button. I use it every week with grocery shopping.
Answer: It’s easy use. Very smooth and simple
Q:
For the jar sealer attachment does this have an automatic valve release or do you have to remove the hose after each use? Re: bad review below.
Answer: It absolutely automatically releases after you vacuum seal your jars, regular or wide mouth. The bad review stating other wise is a unverified purchase review. I have the machine and have no problem with canning jars. You do not have to remove the hose, you simply remove the jar sealer attachment, place on your next jar and hit the accessory button again.
Answer: I believe it is automatically done. But I would visit the website
Q:
Will the unit accept 8" rolls to make bags?
Answer: Yes. This item wrongs great.
Q:
Foodsaver says 5480 is same as 5460, except button locations. complaints are: hard to use, not good for wet items, not consistent. Your experience?
Answer: This is my third Foodsaver over the last 17 years. I wore the others out. It's my favorite. I suspect if you have never used a Foodsaver before it might be difficult to get the hang of it. As for wet items you have to remember to press the Moist button. It defaults to the Dry mode. Have had no problems with consistency other than Operator Error. We buy our meat in bulk from a local butcher. This machine saves me a ton of time to vacuum pack the meat.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: yes, its the same. Sent it back, was so bad to use, the bags say you see, but you don't. Its too high to get the bag in and hold. Horrible.
Q:
Does it include the rapid marinate container
Answer: Yes the white container is for marinate. This come with the following 1 11"x10' Vacuum Seal Roll
Answer: It sure does... they call it the L & L or "lunch and left-over" container. It looks like a small tuperware. Thank you for the inquiry,
Q:
Whst is the diffetence between the fm5480 and the fm5000
Answer: The fm5480 is the newer machine. The dimensions are smaller and it has the pulse button.
Answer: They are basically the same series. I bought the 5480 and was not pleased at all. Buy a cheaper one, it works the same.
Q:
is this 110w or 220 ? voltage ?
Answer: Ours was 120 volt and works great
Answer: 110
Answer: it is a 120 volt. I like it
Answer: 110 volts
Answer: 110 w
Q:
My accessory vac quit working. Suggestions?
Answer: Our vac will seal but will not remove the air ,so would not recommend this to anyone!
Answer: If the unit still vacs bags, look first for leaking or disconnected accessory hose.
Answer: Send it back. Mine never really worked well and then it just stopped. I'm talking about the bag/ vacuum seal, btw.
Q:
Will the 50’ rolls fit in this machine
Answer: No. What I did is save the cardboard roll from the ones that came with it and unrolled about 1/2 of the 50' roll onto the empty roll.
Answer: If this is the really big roll, no. The space for a roll of bags is only big enough to hold the normal size sold by FoodSaver and not the bigger rolls sold by others. I usually buy the bigger rolls and once I have used enough bags so it will fit, then I put it the space for bags.
Q:
what is the capacity of the plastic container that it comes with it?
Answer: About four cups
Q:
Can I use my old style marinator with this new machine?
Answer: Sorry but have no experience with the older machine. Perhaps another person
Answer: Yes you can, I Am using the marinator that I bought years ago with this new machine and no problems.
Q:
Bought it from. the us and i need to euse it in europe do i need to de a special thing for 220 v
Answer: I’m not home to look at it but suspect it is 120V only. You’d need a 220 to 110/120V transformer. Just verify the wattage to ensure it’s big enough.
Q:
Does this model have the removable drip tray?
Answer: Yes, it has a removable drip tray.
Answer: Yes. I love this model.
Answer: yes, comes out very easy. easy to clean and it snaps right back in.
Answer: I am not sure I bought as a gift and returned since they had one.
Answer: Yes, and you need it as it gets quite dirty.
Answer: Yes, it does.
Answer: Yes lt does
Q:
Why did I received the 5400 Foodsaver series when I ordered the 5480 series,?
Answer: That you have to take up with Amazon/Foodsaver. I have the 5480. The 5480 is part of the 5400 series of Foodsavers.
Q:
What is the newest food saver
Answer: As they are upgrading constantly and each has different "features" I would check their website to see what they are listing.
Q:
Does this have the marinated button and moist and dry foods button
Answer: Yes the FM5400 series does.
Answer: Yes, I am able to do that.
Q:
This particular model FM5480 normally goes for $189. Why is this so much more expensive?
Answer: FoodSaver FM2435 is much better -- I bought and threw out the 5480
Q:
What size of rolls do you buy? the 11 x 50' rolls from nutrilock do not fit into fm5480. diameter of roll is too large.
Q:
will this ever be eligible for Amazon Prime?
Q:
If I want to buy the absolute best, do I go with the 4440 or the 4800 or the 5480 or something else? And why???
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I have the 5480, my third Foodsaver. It addresses all 3 of what I considered shortcomings of previous models I have owned. 1. it holds a roll of bag material internally, 2 it can make bags with very little waste, 3 it does a decent job of sealing bags containing liquid because the bag can hang nearly vertically down from the sealer bar. It has the additional advantage of having the accessory vacuum tube for vacuuming wine bottles (with the Foodsaver stoppers, sold seperately, and the storage/marinating canister. It checks every box for me and I am completely satisfied with the unit.
Q:
Can the bags from the roll seal liquids?
Answer: The problem with a vacuum sealer like this is that unlike a chamber sealer liquids aren't really something you can easily do in the bags. For liquids I'd recommend regular freezer grade Ziplocs and just remove all the air using displacement or similar. If you're trying to freeze a meat with a marinade, or include liquid for sous vide you are better off freezing first (including the liquid) then sealing or again going the Ziploc route.
Answer: Seal only (no vacuum) Yes
Answer: Seal only (no vacuum) Yes
Answer: Never tried but I’d assume so... given enough room for the freezing expansion....
Q:
Cord will retrack only 2 inches out. Any ideas? Turned it upside down and also pulled cord gently.
Answer: the power cord winds around two posts in the back of the machine.
Q:
Will they be bringing out a 240volt
Answer: 110
Q:
how do i use wine bottle stopper accessory?
Answer: put the bottle stopper in the bottle, remove the hand vacuum and use the hose from it -- put that in the top of the bottle stopper and vacuum out the air. Simply twist the stopper and pull up to remove it.
Answer: I’ve never used it, sorry
Q:
Can you use mylar bags?
Answer: I don't believe you can use mylar bags for this. They usually require an impulse sealer and this thing heats up quite a bit and for quite a long time. I would be afraid of it melting the mylar. I hope this helps!
Q:
Do 50' rolls fit in roll storage space?
Q:
I don't want to keep out on counter all the time, is it easy to store in pantry and pull out and plug in when ready to use...just plug in?
Answer: actually I keep it on the counter as we use it often
Answer: Yes it's easy to put away and get out
Answer: Yes very easy
Q:
how does the marinate work?
Answer: Not sure what you're asking exactly. But you hit the "rapid marinate" button after attaching the retractable accessory hose to your marinator. The Rapid Marinator infuses food with flavor - in 10-12 minutes instead of over night - using vacuum power to penetrate marinades deep into the food. You get to walk away after you hit the rapid marinate button, when it's done it's ready. Hope that helps.
Answer: It didn't on my model. It would go in, but wouldn't attach or stay so you have to hold it the whole time. What??? At the end of an hour of trying it had done nothing.
Q:
CAn these bags be placed in a pot of boiling water to thaw the food (e.g., I would like to use for spaghetti sauce)?
Answer: Yes - I do it all the time as well as microwave them
Answer: Yes you sure can
Answer: yes
Q:
what is the real shipping weight (not volumetric) in the case i want to freight forward it to my country
Q:
why not replaceable seals on this $100.00+ machine
Q:
Are the bags reuseable?
Answer: There are two types of bags. One type is a fairly normal zip-top type bag but has what I call a "port" , a one-way valve that the accessory vacuum can suck all the air from. Yes, these are reusable, but in my experience they don't hold vacuum well. I always find them in my freezer with air inside after a week or two. The normal bags are completely sealed, and must be cut open. I often store several portions in a bag. I remove a few portions and reseal it, but it gets smaller each time.
Answer: Yes. I make the bags bigger than I need so when I cut them I can reseal them.
Answer: I reuse them depending on what it was used for. If used for things like uncooked pork, I throw it out. If I used it to freeze cooked pork chops, I wash it with Dawn and hang it over a utensil to dry.
Answer: If you wash them well provided they didn’t have meat in them.
Answer: They can be resealed if that is what you mean
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the difference between this one and 5800?
Q:
can it support 220v?
Answer: Hi there, No this is only a 110 volt unit.
Q:
Can you steam vegetables in the microwave in these bags, or are there special bags for that?
Answer: I thought I read/saw that you can steam in the bag, but you have to open slightly at top to let steam out, so that it doesn't explode.
Answer: I do believe you can steam veggies in this bag.
Answer: I doubt that, however why not call Food Saver and inquire. It is made for sealing food for storage.
Q:
What is the difference between this item and foodsaver 1 2-in-1 vacuum sealing system with starter kit other than the price difference(over $30)?
Answer: I have no clue. Perhaps it was because I bought the one with the starter kit and it came with extra bags, etc.
Q:
Goodnight! How many bags do you pack?
Q:
jar sealer included--conflicting answers- it is either yes or no-which is it???
Answer: In the 5480 as indicated in the description of the production there is NO jar sealer included. There is only a jar sealer included in the 5460, but this is NOT the 5460. This is the 5480, which clearly indicates what is included in the description and in the pictures. So again, no jar sealer in this model's starter kit. You can buy the 5460 on FS site for $60 more for the free $9 jar sealer.
Product reviews of FoodSaver, Black/Silver FM5480 2in1 Food Preservation System, reg
Plansman : by far this is the best one I have ever owned
I have owned several different food preservation systems including other Food Savers, by far this is the best one I have ever owned. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is I like to buy the larger size bag rolls and this unit will not admit but the smaller rolls but it still is a very good unit.
GB : Didn’t last 2 months
Well it worked just as expected doe a month. Then after that it wouldn’t seal a bag or make a bag!! So it didn’t last more then 2 months before failure to work!!
Getting replacement.. hope this one will be better cause I like the product !! Fingers crossed
Geo
Barbara Johnson : I wish I would have bought this one to start with
Love it
Troy Pennington : Excellent product
Product exactly as advertised.
A. Bernard : Buy this model
This replaced our unit that died and is a terrific buy
Leadsman : I am Satisfied
I don't use the bags. Instead, I substitute Mason jars as much as possible for environmental reasons.
Be careful when you insert the tip of the air extraction hose into the sealer. The tip can break off and did so in my case. I had to buy a complete new food saver. However, I was willing to do so because it such a great device.
Ann S. : Worked great for awhile
Purchased in June. Worked great for awhile. Now it won't seal unless we hold the cover down. I expected it to last much longer.
Mark : Great product
I like that it had the option to either vacuum or just seal depending on what I needed.
Amazon Customer : STAYS ON THE COUNTER, USE IT ALL THE TIME ...
STAYS ON THE COUNTER, USE IT ALL THE TIME, SEAL MEAT THEN FREEZE IT NO FREEZER BURNS A MONTH LATER.
J. Dill : Works great!
Now that I've finally learned how to use the features I love it!
Especially the marination feature.

Got this for my mom for Christmas and she loves it! Works great!
Steph : Wouldn't turn on
Unit would not power on. Contacted Amazon Tech Support, they told me to contact FoodSaver for replacement. FoodSaver then told me to contact Amazon.
Deana Alleman : Great buy
Just as described, super fast shipping. Love this
Mike : GREAT MACHINE
So I almost didn't get this machine because of the bad reviews from the unverified reviewers which are completely false.I did a lot of research before getting my first Foodsaver. There were so many machines, and I had quite a few different needs. Without a doubt this machine is perfect. ***Update to my review: First lets call BULLCR@P on the review that this machine can't do canning properly cause it doesn't release the suction, it does release the suction when you remove the hose which takes a second, then you remove the jar sealer and place on another jar and attach hose again. This machine vacuum seals regular and wide mouth jars perfectly over and over again, you place the jar sealer over your lid, hit the accessory button, it vacuums out the air, when done it stops and you remove the hose from the jar sealer attachment off the jar and go to your next jar. Not that much of a big deal at all. Removing the hose is not such a big deal anyway, it's about a second of work longer, but it insures the jar is sealed. The second bad review, was written about someone who didn't like their free gift in the box. Seriously, this is an amazing machine and someone gave it 2 stars for a free gift in the box they couldn't figure out how to work properly. As someone else already stated, reviews on Amazon are become useless.
Anyway, since I researched for months on which machine I wanted, and also read through the review, q&a and called several times with Foodsaver to determine exactly which machine suited my needs this was the machine that was chosen. And I can't be more happy. Now it's only been a week. So time will tell on the storing length reviews, but this is about the machine functionality.
Here is why I bought this machine:
I didn't want a huge machine in the house. For me I'm not a costco shopper or a hunter so no I'm not wrapping up 200 lbs of meat in a day. So this is not my need. So if this your need this review might not help you. But for me, I like to keep stuff as fresh as possible in the fridge and kitchen. I also do canning I also have jewelry I make and needed to make smaller bags to package up. I make seasonings that I like to store more than a year etc., we also have a lot of bread and produce in this house to store for a week or two. The less we can throw out the better.
This machine is not huge at all. It's weird shaped and looking but the logic of the functions seems to work. The machine is rather lighter than I thought as well. It's nice being able to see how much is left in your roll, or replacing it without having to open the machine up. It's nice being able to cut your roll without having to open your machine up. Two things I've been told that are very cumbersome from older model users.
- The bottom has a sealer that seals the next bag when you're cutting your current bag.
- Then you vacuum/seal your bag on the upper sealer. (this saves you time, less chance of over heating)
- Upper sealer has a window, which allows you to see where to put the bag to make your seal, or to make your double seal. Not sure how older foodsaver users lived without this feature. Took a little learning curve to get but worth it.
- This has a pulse button feature that allows you not to crush muffins, cakes, etc anything soft you don't want to squish, then you hit the seal button to seal.
- This machine has a rapid marinate button, this I really wanted cause I marinate stuff all the time over night and this does it in 10-12mins. You hit the button and walk away. With other machines that don't have the rapid marinate button, you can still in theory marinate but it's a 12min process of pushing in and out of air that you would have to do manually with older machines, standing there, turning off and on machine. This button allows you to hit the button and walk way. When it's done you have an over night marinate done in 12mins.
- This machine has a retractable accessory hose for zipper bags, canning jars, canisters and containers. You use the hose two ways, with the cover and without. This is a must have especially for people like me for the every day users. Having it be retractable is a blessing. LOVE the zipper bags. LOVE canning jars. Will let you know how the canisters and containers are later, cause I did buy all of them.
- This machines has a moist/dry food seal. When you're vacuuming moist food, hit the moist food button and it will heat up a bit more to seal better.
I have been using this thing vigorously for a few days. There's definitely a learning curve and some patience. But once I got it, I can't understand how I lived this long without one. I have literally rearranged my kitchen to make this baby the star.
No you can't put a 50' roll in this machine. not sure which machine you can do that with but clearly you're a professional if you need that much on hand in your machine. I did buy a 50' roll of a knock off brand and rerolled it into a roll that could fit in the machine, it took less 3 mins to do, no biggy, especially for saving a lot of money. Now I have a back up roll waiting to pop in.
Andy Cohen : this is a great product
the foodsaver is a great product, it works well and has good suction
Anthony J. Ciresi : Five Stars
Very easy to use and set up.
Dana Rotan : Versatile and works as promises
I had some trepidation about buying this model because of the several negative reviews I read, however, after going through the manual thoroughly before using it, I found it easy to use. Everyone should read the manual thoroughly and try every feature as instructed before putting it into regular use.
First, I did not find it awkward to hit the bars to start the vacuum process, because if you hold the bag as instructed with both hands, the backs of your fingers are at the right spot to start the process. The handheld vacuum device is not as powerful for the zipper bags (takes longer) but I have no use these and tried them only because they came with the machine. I do use the handheld device (clear plastic part removed) to create a vacuum in wide-mouth mason jars (I had bought the required lid to use with an old model Foodsaver) and it works perfectly.
I had read complaints about the bottom sealing of bags that you cut to size, but if you follow the steps in the manual, it works perfectly. I love being able to cut to size easily and bottom-seal in the same step.
This machine is used every day now that my garden is being harvested. For economy reasons, I am using 3rd-party bag rolls, that I bought in bulk (from Amazon), that are heavier. They work perfectly with this machine. Very pleased with this model. Although it's been in use for only 2 months, I'm hopeful that with proper care it will last a long time.
Mark : Great product
I like that it had the option to either vacuum or just seal depending on what I needed.
Amazon Customer : Food saver
Had to replace my last food saver bought more than 10 years ago. This one is updated with lots of options.
Abraham : New item in opened box.
I bought a new item bat I recieved it in an opened box.
Gary Rost : Replacement for the old one
This is my second Foodsaver. I was going to buy the 4400, which is like my old one, or the 5200, but I went with the 5480. I am glad I did. This model works much better than the 4400 system (IMHO). The two little spring flaps in the old system keep jamming and breaking, with no replacements. The new system has no spring flaps and you can see where the bag is. You control when the suck begins. That's a big improvement. Its easier to carry with the new shape.
Dale : Five Stars
excellent
Anthony J. Ciresi : Five Stars
Very easy to use and set up.
Cynthia Queen : By a different model!
We have been using foodsavers for years. We have always liked their products and been very happy, UNTILL THIS machine1!!!! This the worst i’ve Ever used! Dust gets in the roller area, it dosen’t suck enough air out and the sealer went bad very quickly! We still like food saver but as soon as we could afford a new one we changed models!
G. Licavoli : That it is a little harder to get use to but the making of bags is really great
I like that it is quick to seal and the seal is quicker than my old one. I do not like the fact you have to hold the bag and press to start process. I usually have to put something in front to hold bag while I press the to indents to start it.
Barbara Johnson : I wish I would have bought this one to start with
Love it
Clarkent : To save money, suck it
This product is great and sucks all at the same time
Kelly : This is a money saver
This is an amazing system. I save so much money with being able to freeze my leftovers and bulk purchases. It even works on bags of chips that have been opened. I find some use for it everyday. Much better than my older Kenmore system that I hardly ever used. This is very user friendly. Food (frozen or not) last so much longer.
Honey : Arrived as promised.
Just received the product as promised and packaged well. This is a replacement from another Foodsaver model that died just short of warranty period. Will review more after some use.
Chad Rickaby : Doesn't overheat trying to make bags and package at the same time.
Works great.
Leonard K Roberts : By it on Amazon cost more at food saver by 40.00 dollars
Great product where has it been all my life, started using food saver out of the box, then ordered more rolls and bags
And containers shout out for food saver easy to use, .
billfish : Great
This thing is great, easy to use, versatile, much easier than the slightly cheaper models. I'm glad I paid a little more and got this one. Particularly good is that the thing that clamps down over the mouth of the bag when you go to seal it is transparent, so you can see when the bag is positioned correctly. Also it has settings for dry and wet foods; other units have a problem with wet foods, as they draw the water in and gum up the works.
Mattie Hawkins : Vacuum is very bad
Since I have owned my first vacuum sealer, I did not have anything to compare it to. Someone recently was over at my home and I shared and showed them what I have experienced from the beginning of my pruchase. I press both sides to start the vacuuming and within seconds I hear a clunk and the vacuum seal pressure decreases immensely and the bag never really seals properly. I was told today that was a defeat. Well I did not know, so all of my vacuum sealing has been flawed...

Amazon Customer : Feature rich food saver!
All the features recommended in a food saver are found with this machine! Easy to use and should save us a great deal of money. We are making and vacuum packing meals for our Mother In Law which will be much healthier than the frozen dinners she has been buying!
Amazon Customer : CONTENTO CON MI COMPRA
Recomiendo que se siga evaluando el sellado para productos con alta humedad ya que la maquina genera error, y facilitar su limpieza, sobre todo en la tapa de succión, del resto muy contento con mi producto, cumple con mis requerimientos.
Margal05 : Will be great
I am trying to learn how to use this machine.
Anthony J. Ciresi : Five Stars
Very easy to use and set up.
Patricia West : Vacuum Sealer
Nice to use to seal and freeze my vegetables from the garden.
mahmoud : bad luck

Amazon Customer : Great vacuum sealer
This is my first sealer, let alone a FoodSaver. It was more than I wanted to pay, but seems well made and gets the job done. The only complaint I have is that the resealable bags don't hold a seal, it was nice they included them but I tried using them for coffee beans and 2 days later it was no longer vacuum sealed. The roll and premade bags work great, the accessory container works great too. I ended up putting the coffee in there and it stays sealed. They have a model almost identical to this one that does not include the resealable bags and container that is a bit cheaper.
I really like that there are many accessories that I can get later for it, like the jar sealer.

STAYS ON THE COUNTER, USE IT ALL THE TIME, SEAL MEAT THEN FREEZE IT NO FREEZER BURNS A MONTH LATER.
Prime user Lloyd : Easy to use and helps save money
I had a unit from another brand that quit after about 2 years. Time to buy another I selected this unit because of the different features it offers.
Handheld unit is attached. I have now used this for sealing resealable bags with cheese slices, meat slices - lunch meat, nuts, crackers... Wine bottles and to marinate meats in the accessory containers.
Bag maker -- insert roll into the roll storage area, bring the end through the slot, line up with the white lines, lock in place first seal (bottom of bag) created. Unlock, pull bag to desired length. Lock. It will automatically make a seal. Slide cutter. You have made a bag. And the roll is ready for the next bag with the bottom seal already in place.
How easy? Take the bag you just made. Put the food in it. Push the top into the vacuum sealer slot. Push the pushbar. Let it vacuum and seal.
You can control the vacuum. There is a pulse for only taking out what air you want. There are 2 settings for food -- dry and moist.
Only item I need to have on hand that does not attach? A black marker to label the bags.
I normally cook for myself and one other family member. This system allows me to buy food in bulk when it is on sale. I break out the meat into serving sizes within 24 hours of bringing it home. This also allows me to cook 2 different types of meat for a meal if that is what is wanted. Saving food through the vacuum systems does prolong the life of the food. I can't imagine not having one now. (Which is why I had to buy another one when my old one quit.) For instance tonight I cooked a half roast which had been frozen in a foodsaver bag for 4 months. It came out as tasty and tender as if I had just brought it home from the butcher.
I recommend the system. I am still learning a lot about what I can do with this type of system. But I am happy I can prolong the life of the meat, fruits, vegetables and even chips, cereal and crackers that I buy. Save a lot of money not having to throw away half eaten bags anymore.
RM in AZ : Not durable, awkward to use
Purchased December 2017 and started acting up after about 6 months. Stopped vacuuming today. The bag cutter is handy, and nice to seal right after to conserve bags. Awkward to insert in vacuum and resets to dry after each use. I will buy a different model...it should last more than a year for $125.

Pamela Paris : Seal and save !
Does what it says. Now if we had food to deal we can do it.
E. McDougall : Managed to ruin a time-tested design.
This was a real disappointment; I got this one because it has a place to hold the rolls, and it was supposed to be powerful, easy to use, and automatically make the next bag. I thought I was buying a premium, top-of-the-line machine to last for years. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
- It's difficult to impossible to tread the roll material properly into the weird slot correctly; the plastic curls and it's very tight - my male hands are too big to fit. Once it's there you have to be very careful not to jostle the roll at all or it's back to square 1, threading the stubbornly curly material again.
- Since there's not anything actually holding the roll, it will fall out when you're putting the device away - apparently it's supposed to be left on your counter 24/7, taking up real estate.
- The vacuum sealer itself is the worst design I've ever seen, bar none. It's too high up the machine, so you have to awkwardly hold the bag up while trying to get the plastic flat. The vacuum door does not swing back out of your way, so you have to try to hold it up with one hand, then get the bag with it's curly edge in to place without a lot of wrinkling, then use your third and fourth hands to push the incredibly awkward start bar. I've dropped food on the floor way too many times.
- Can't handle even small amounts of liquid. I put a couple tablespoons of marinade into the bag, and tried the "moist" setting; it managed to extract every drop of fluid from the bag. AFAICT "moist" is EXACTLY the same as "dry" setting. And since all the marinade was now sucked out to the opening of the bag, the heat seal didn't work - just sizzled as it tried to cook the marinade.
- It's flimsily constructed - I push down on the vacuum sealer door, and the whole thing bends. It's definitely not going to last.
I''ve returned mine, I'm going to go back to the basic clam shell sealer type I had before - it worked great compared to this garbage.
Tammy and Darin : This is the best food saver ever built, Maybe not (Revised Review)
We do a lot of sous vide cooking as well as juicing for the freezer. We have flat worn out several food savers. With each of the prior machines I was always waiting for the machine to cool down so I could seal another bag. This machine has the functions organized so that not only does it keep up, it takes a bunch of the work out of it. It really is a pleasure to use.
For those of you that like to make your own juice, you have probably found as I have that fresh juice does not keep well even for a day or two. We bag our juice as we make it with the food saver. Keeping the air away from it we have found that it keeps in the fridge for weeks, and in the freezer indefinitely.
Unfortunately I find I must revise my review. Three to four months into use of this machine I noticed that periodically it wouldn’t vacuum down the bags very well. At first I thought it might be caused by generic bags, nope that wasn’t it. Next I thought it might be dirty seals, nope that wasn’t it. Then I thought the vac pump might be clogged or failing, nope that wasn’t it. What I did find is that the seals were not sealing. Simply pressing down on the cover as it was vacuuming made it work just fine.
Today I finally got around to contacting food saver about buying new seals, hadn’t even considered warranty repairs. Well it turns out that they don’t sell new seals for this machine, and the machine is covered under warranty. Sort of. In order to get warranty coverage the customer is required to ship the machine back to food saver at their own expense. Wait 24 hours then send them the tracking number, then they might send out a new machine. I saved screen shots of the conversation. Not a very customer friendly process although the person on the other side of the chat (Joe) was calm and professional.
I’m going to take it up with Amazon first I think. Feeling disappointed is a company that I have bought from at least three times, and recommended many many times. Can anyone point me towards a product from a different company that does the same thing that will last a reasonable length of time? Hopefully from a company that stands behind their product in a manner that values their customer, as is a bit embarrassed when warranty service is needed.
Mark Loiacano : Much improved over previous models!
I have had other ones. This one had incredible suction power. if you are cooking with a sous vide, you need all of the air out otherwise the back will float. It may not work every time, but this thing has great power!
