Answer: Never tried it. I would say yes boiling fruits and vegetables.
Q:
Does it automatic vacuum seal?
Answer: Hello, this is Filip from FoodSaver Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our FoodSaver 31161366. It requires manual pushing of buttons, but then it automatically vacuums and seals.
Answer: You can seal with or without vacuum. If you choose "seal" it will not vacuum. If you choose "vaccuum," it will vacuum first, then automatically seal.
Answer: When you press the vacuum button, it will automatically seal after vacuuming. If you want the vacuum to stop sooner (so as not to crush whatever you are vacuuming), you can press seal while it’s vacuuming to switch it to the seal function. You can also just seal without vacuuming at all.
Answer: Once you press the vacuum button taking all the air out, it automatically seals. If you just want it to seal, just press the seal button. I absoulutely love this food saver.
Answer: You do have to press the vacuum button and then it automatically vacuum packs and seals
Answer: If you are asking if it automatically seals after vacuuming, yes it does
Answer: Couldn't say, I opened this model and sent it directly back. If you can, save a few more dollars and purchase the GameSaver Pro, which indeed has an auto vacuum, auto-sealer, and built to last a little longer, in my opinion.
Answer: no
Answer: Yes - just follow the instructions.

I’d like to get the marinator accessory for this. Does it come with a hose or do I need to buy one. Will it work with the marinator cannister?
Answer: Mine did not come with a marinator hose so unable to answer about the cannister
Q:
Which Food Saver models include a cutter and three a cost?
Answer: i believe they all do.. So far what I've seen they had cutters. If you plan on doing alot of packing don't get a small one. We wasted money on that one as they are limited in width. The best investment is a better one. This one has a 12.2 width and that is what you need.
Q:
what hand held accessory goes in the port on the top left of the cover?
Answer: Hello, this is Marcin from Foodsaver care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our FoodSaver 31161366. Our Foodsaver accessory hose connects to the vacuum sealer port.
Answer: The air hose goes in the port.
Answer: That's for Foodsaver Quickmarinator, Storage/Fresh containers, and jars. The tubing assembly used to come with the unit itself, my old one did but this new one didn't have one. Guess it's all extra now.

Product reviews of FoodSaver 31161366 Space Saving Food Vacuum Sealer, Compact Vacuum Sealing Machine, For Use with FoodSaver Vacuum Seal Bags, Sous Vide Bags and Rolls, 5.7 x 12.2 x 4.3 inches, Silver
Just Me : Love Food Savers
This is a great Food Saver. Takes up a smaller space and easy to use. I only use bags so don't need the additional features for jars, etc.
Kathleen Fial : Nice compact design
This is an excellent design for such a compact unit. Extremely happy with purchase, and the unit is fun to use.
Note that in the Questions and Answers section on Amazon the thickness of the bags has an answer from FoodSaver with wrong information. The first answer above says: Total thickness is 4 Mil, therefore 0.004 inches thick. It goes on to an error, saying FoodSaver bags are 0.1026 inches thick. NOTE THAT THE VALUE 0.1026 IS THE THICKNESS IN MILLIMETERS, NOT INCHES.
Just Me : Love Food Savers
This is a great Food Saver. Takes up a smaller space and easy to use. I only use bags so don't need the additional features for jars, etc.
Christine Hayward : Complete junk
Completely unsatisfied. It worked for the first 2 uses and then stopped. It will start to suction but when you try to seal, it won’t seal. I would never purchase this model again. Our previous one was fantastic and worked for years before we had to replace it.
Marc Niegowski : Great little vacuum food sealer
I purchased this little machine for two main reasons. One is that we have a limited counter space in our kitchen and I wanted a compact appliance. The other was that we buy meats in bulk and divide them up into portions. This machine takes up very little counter space and allows us to vacuum seal the portions of meats for freezing. It’s a one touch operation that vacuums and then seals the bag. One can also stop the vacuum operation to prevent softer foods, such as breads, from crushing, simply by pressing the “seal” button at any time. Also, bags can be sealed without vacuuming at all.
On a side note, other reviewers have mentioned sealing non-food items. As a photographer, I have expensive photo ink jet cartridges that I only use on occasion. When not in use, I would place them in zip lock bags to extend their life because they ultimately dry out when not in use even with the vendor supplied caps. Vacuum sealing these photo ink jet cartridges greatly extends their usable life.
beezlebub : No power cord
Have so far been unable to try this product, as it arrived without a power cord. Not very useful.
Kindle Customer : Works great
Bought it for freezing venison brats and links. Sealed 100 brats, 50 links and 100 burgers. Meat sealed great, easy to use and clean. Price is reasonable for the size. I need to go bigger.
J. Dewey : Poor choice.
I like the Foodsaver brand, but this model didn’t get the job done at all.
R. Farnsworth : Ok for the price
This smaller unit works well. I did not consider that the original sized rolls of plastic would be too wide for the machine. Only the small rolls will fit into the unit. When the bags fit, it works well.
Sarah Calhoun : Perfect compact food save
This little foodsaver is amazing! Simply to use with great suction power!
MJ : Don’t waste your money
Does not seal or vacuum well. Does not have the “moist” food option so even a tiny amount of liquid prevents it from vacuuming and sealing. I returned it and Amazon was very quick and efficient with my return.
Melissa Farmer : Best value foodsaver.
I tried a different brand when my 1st foodsaver fell and broke. It never sealed as well as my first food saver. I bought this one to replace the "other" brand and love the style and new features. I will only recommend foodsaver in the future
Happy GSD Owner : Don't buy it
Buy the version with the hand held sealer... When I needed tubing for my dry canning, the tubing did not fit. I gave up and just used the lids and oxygen absorbers. This will not seal the multi pack of bags. The seal is cheap but the vacuum works great. You cannot use 8.5 x 11 sized bags as they are too wide for the sealer. I would not buy this again. I am ready to chuck it.
Msquared : Worth it...
It's takes more time to suction than a bigger name brand out there but it works. The bag has to be in just right for it to work too. BUT, all things considered, it's a great little machine for the price and purpose.
Pat O : More counter space for my kitchen!
I have had a Foodsaver for years and won't live without one. This is a little gem for an apartment with limited counter space. Since it's just for me, the big one just hogged a lot of room. Getting used to smaller, but it works just like the big ones - that I loved when I had my large kitchen.
Anne L. Watson : Unreliable
Many of the packages I've sealed -- perhaps a fourth of them -- lose their seal before long, which completely defeats the purpose.
Gretchen : I Love My Compact Food Saver
I toiled over which Food Saver to buy. I was set to spend some money and buy a premium version, but after reading many reviews and watching several videos, I decided that as a first-time FoodSaver buyer, that the compact was for me...and I am so glad I made this choice! Because it is so compact, it sits on top of a piece of wood on top of my toaster oven. (Only try this if there are no vents in the top of your toaster oven). All this fits under the cabinets. With it so handy, I use it ALL the time. I usually bring it down onto he counter to use as it gets better suction that way with the food resting on the counter too. I bought some discount rolls for the baggie refills and I keep them nearby on a shelf. The compact version does all the same things the big versions do...if you buy the attachments you can also seal wine bottles and mason jars. The compact version only fits up to 8" wide baggies though. But I still reseal bags of potato chips and cereal bags in their original (wider) bags. I fold the top corners in and then I am able to stick the edge of the baggy in to my machine. Also, when using my own purchase baggies from the 8" rolls, I often cut a bit longer bag than necessary. So let.s say I am storing some chicken. Then I cut open the bag and take out one portion--the smaller my storage portions get, the more room I have to seal. But by giving it a little "extra" room, you can cut open and reseal over and over again, even if you only take a little bit of food out. Keep in mind that you need two to three inches extra to vacuum and seal. But in some cases, I only need to seal the item as I know I will get into it again in a couple of days (like cheese in the fridge) and so then I just put the edge on the sealer and I don't need as much material to do that. By using it this way I am able to get the most use and bang for my buck out of my baggies. I am thrilled how long potato chips, cereals, cheese, meats, home baked cookies and so much more last so long now that I finally have a FoodSaver! Definitely a worthwhile investment no matter which model you buy! I can even reseal my Color Street Nails and other non-food items with it!
TELLASTAR03 : Good product
I bought this because I needed more counter space and my old one got totaled in a fire. It works very well. The only thing I would note is it doens't work for the Pre cut Gallon bags. The width isn't long enough. But other than that I love its portability.
Erica R. : Good but not great
Doesn’t have an included slider to cut the bags to size and when sealing off. Makes it a little more cumbersome
Joel Gardenier : Not wide enough for gallon bags but other then that great
Works great not wide enough for gallon bags I use but on everything else I do is great
L`eroy Strong : Great for RV'ers
I love this little guy. I had a bigger one, but it was too big to use in our 5th wheel so we found and bought this one. It does the job and it saves on space.
Jane Jones : Works Great!
This was originally purchased to prepare (backpacking) meals for son and grandson. I use a dehydrator to prepare foods and then seal with food saver. This was a refurbished/return so I was hesitant but with return policy and great price, I gave it a try. What a bargain...at least so far. No problems - easy to use and suction is great. The 8" is perfect for backpacking meals but have wished for 12" for storing some meats I purchase for myself and husband - love to buy at Costco and divide into 2or3 portion sizes for freezing. However, I just divide it into smaller sizes.

brendon.t : Doesn't vaccum down long enough
I bought this to vacuume seal individual portions of fresh caught fish. Unfortunately it does not have a variable vacuum time. Every package I attempted to seal, the machine stopped vacuuming and sealed the bag before even half of the air and juices were pulled out. I would not recommend this to someone trying to vacuum seal fish or meat.
Lee W. : It’s trash
It only worked for about 40 times. Called warranty department for replacement (not repairable) spent over an hour got it replaced the new one only worked once. Threw it in trash never looking back. $139.00 wasted.
Kathleen A Hering : It is awesome
I love this machine. It is a replacement for one I had and it is much better than the old one. It is smaller too which is very helpful.
Kathleen Fial : Nice compact design
This is an excellent design for such a compact unit. Extremely happy with purchase, and the unit is fun to use.

We’ve only used our new Foodsaver once but we were impressed by how easy it was to use. We quickly bagged up 8lbs of hamburg. I plan to chop and freeze several onions and different kinds of squash tomorrow. It’ll be nice having veggies ready to go for soup.
beezlebub : No power cord
Have so far been unable to try this product, as it arrived without a power cord. Not very useful.
TELLASTAR03 : Good product
I bought this because I needed more counter space and my old one got totaled in a fire. It works very well. The only thing I would note is it doens't work for the Pre cut Gallon bags. The width isn't long enough. But other than that I love its portability.
jc vt : I like it more than I expected!
Actually, I wasn’t expecting to like this all that well, having used the larger, fully automatic Foodsaver with all the bells and accessories and self-retractable hose (which only lasted two years.) The positioning of the bag took a little practice, and the suction doesn’t seem quite as strong, but I love the small size and all-in-all, it does a satisfactory job for all my occasional freeezer needs (two or three times a week) and 8” wide rolls and bags are sufficient for me. It’s well worth the price, and hopefully will last as long or longer than the two “premium” Foodsaver models I’ve had to replace. Maybe simple is better— manual bag placement and lack of accessories means fewer moving parts to wear out.
Laura Ann : Product Does It's job On Smaller Quantities
This is a good product however, I wish I had got the larger model.
Rossef : Does not close tightly; does not seal; very disappointing
As you can see from the video, it does not close tightly enough to pull a vacuum, so you have to press down on the top to start it vacuuming.
That's annoying, but I could've lived with it - IF it adequately sealed it afterwards! Which it did not.
I was using already cooked steaks, and they were juicy, but not dripping wet. I dried them off, put them in the bag, and started to seal them. If THAT was too wet for this machine, then I guess you should hope to use this for dry beans or rice or coffee.
Overall very disappointing.
P.S. Essentially it didn't pull a vacuum and it didn't seal the bag correctly - the TWO things it's supposed to do. This combination renders it useless.
Jules Mac : This thing rules!
I had an older version of this & recently upgraded to this one. It is SO MUCH BETTER! The ease of use is ridiculous. It has a "lock feature" so when you're storing it the machine won't open up accidentally. Thanks to this little gadget I now go shopping & can stock up on items, seal them up & keep them in the freezer & everything lasts longer. It also has a small footprint so you can leave it on your counter if you need it that often, which is great. Forget the big bulky ones, this is the best one I've used yet.
Sheshema : Seal didn’t last
Spent all day yesterday sealing bags to have the air return today.
Caitlin sanborn : Fooooood
If the meat is too juicy it doesn't suck all the air out. Only complaint.
R. Farnsworth : Ok for the price
This smaller unit works well. I did not consider that the original sized rolls of plastic would be too wide for the machine. Only the small rolls will fit into the unit. When the bags fit, it works well.
Cynthia B : Received an item that did not work
Item wouldn’t turn on so I decided to return it.
Amazon Customer : Not worth the price at all!
Garbage! Pay a little more and get the good one. I had to hold it down multiple times in one sitting. Not worth my time or money and I am returning it. Suction sucks. To spend a $100 on an extra ten it should not be a $20 value. Don’t purchase this garbage.

Christine Hayward : Complete junk
Completely unsatisfied. It worked for the first 2 uses and then stopped. It will start to suction but when you try to seal, it won’t seal. I would never purchase this model again. Our previous one was fantastic and worked for years before we had to replace it.
Sarah Calhoun : Perfect compact food save
This little foodsaver is amazing! Simply to use with great suction power!
Travis J : Simple, easy to use, and effective
I've used several different vacuum sealers over the years and after purchasing one of the huge, expensive new Foodsaver brand ones I found that I was wasting a lot of my bags because it would only seal them after putting about 1" past the sensor inside it (it sealed automatically). I much prefer these simple ones to the fancier models--it's hard to mess up your sealing as long as you follow the directions and make sure that the end of your bag is in the channel. I haven't sealed a ton of things with this model yet, so I'm not sure how much of a workhorse it is, but my experience so far makes me think that it'll be in use for a long time.
Kindle Customer : Great product. Great price
Awesome. I use the pre-made Food Saver quart bags This product is very easy to use. No more freezer burned food. Great for buying in bulk; a real money-saver.
Kindle Customer : Works great
Bought it for freezing venison brats and links. Sealed 100 brats, 50 links and 100 burgers. Meat sealed great, easy to use and clean. Price is reasonable for the size. I need to go bigger.
Kindle Customer : Great Kitchen Aid
This food saver is easy to use and store. By separating meats and vegetables at time of purchase saves mone. Great for storing non food items, also.

Amazon Customer : Compact and gets the job done
Only works for the smaller 8 inch rolls or bags but it is such a space saver.
Suedonner : The different size bags do not work
I am very up set with my food saver. I bought extra bags(different sizes) from the food saver company and the tops from the bigger bags do not fit into the machine so you can't take the air out or seal it properly. I have ice on my food when I take it out of the freezer. The only bags I can get to work properly are the small size. I have called the Food Saver company but they told me they cant help. Very disappointing
