Questions about Smoker Sealer High Temp BBQ gasket & adhesive smoker lid door tape GL-1/2 & LL3R
Q:
Is there a reason why some have rtv & some don't? i have a masterbuilt electric smoker that i want to seal better.
Answer: this is a self stick gasket..... the rtv is to seal up other cracks and gaps that don't require a gasket and don't need to be opened and closed often
Answer: RTV is more for holes and crevices. The gaskets is for openings. I've had this on 2 smokers for a few years now and it works amazing.
Answer: I can’t answer why some come with rtv but I did not use it and the self adhesive worked perfectly. Used on a Camp Chef Woodwind 24 with sear station. No problems at all.
Answer: User preference I'm guessing . RTV can be used if you are bolting or screwing to halves together and the gasket can be used for bigger or out of range gaps on your doors or etc . it would be what your application is calling for .
Answer: I’ve used both rtv works for cracks tape works for doors
Answer: I’m not sure what RTV is but I also have a master built and used the tube to seal around the thermometer and top stack vent. I used the felt around both doors and I recommend buying this product for a much better seal. I have a small amount of smoke sleeping through but nothing like my Brinkman vertical water smoker.
Answer: Don’t bother with RTV. The tape on the seal works fine but you have to clean surface well on a used rig. I installed mine brand new. The directions say to clean with alcohol or thinner
Answer: I too have one but really not sure about your question. The only smoke I get out of it is through the exhaust on top and around the wood chip feeder. If you have leakage at the door check the factory seal, it might need replacing.
Q:
Will this be enough gasket for a Oaklahoma Joe Bandera vertical smoker?
Answer: It should be if you measured your door to check the total length to the amount of gasket that it says it is then you should be OK. so if the door totals 12ft and the gasket is 15ft then you have 3ft left over .
Answer: It should be fine. It comes in 15 foot rolls.
Q:
Should this be used on a trager grill?
Answer: yes you can use this on a Traeger thnx!
Q:
Will it work on firebox?
Answer: t we recommend the fire box gaskets specific for fire boxes amazon part # B00KN1GNRK
Answer: I think it is good up to 450 degrees.
Answer: Yes
Q:
is this the correct gasket width for a OK joe longhorn reverse flow smoker?
Answer: First thing I would do is measure my smoker and then see what the dimension of the gasket is from the manufacture and compare the two to see if it is the right size . but I'm sure it would be the same as any other smoker on the market .
Answer: Don't know the smoker and the gray material is one size, 1/2" wide approximately 1/4" thick.
Answer: Don't know the smoker and the gray material is one size, 1/2" wide approximately 1/4" thick.
Answer: Yes, this system worked perfect as in a YouTube video using this same product. Clamps are a key feature you can get on Amazon also
Q:
will this withstand flame
Answer: the gasket is partially flame retardant. not 100% flame proof.
Q:
i have almost 1/2 inch gab on one side.. and i see this is 1/8.. can i stick them together to make a thicker layer? or do they sell one thicker than t
Answer: you could but its better to do them opposite each other on both surfaces so they meet together. LavaLock makes thicker gaskets too

Q:
I have a pit boss vertical smoker. Will this stuff work for it? Or do you have something on Amazon that you recommend?
Answer: It would work for everything but the door. Seals up hard so would not be good for the door itself. This product works best for barrel type smokers.
Answer: I used in my Brinkmann grill with offset smoker 4 years ago. It works perfectly. I used the grill weekly.
Answer: This should work just fine. Just make sure you have patience for the drying.
Answer: If the gap is large enough, yes. If it is very narrow, you could use a bead of high temp silicone. Kind of hard to help, since you don't mention where smoke is leaking from.
Q:
Can this be washed after each use to keep the gasket from gettng rancid from grease?
Answer: It is a felt-like material. I have gotten it wet but never concentrated spray directly on it. It seals the smoke chamber increasing efficiency. The more you use the smoker the better it seals. Not really greasy or rancid but I use the rig 3 times a week. Frequent use is key. On my second season and I am happy with the product
Answer: Sorry not sure. But definitely has helped my smoker with some of the minor gaps
Q:
what is the longevity ?
Answer: I’ve had mine on for over a year still working great
Answer: I haven't replaced it yet
Q:
How long does it need to sit up before using smoker?
Answer: I let it set overnight. Unfortunately when I opened the smoker, it had stuck to the lid and the chamber. It pulled apart like cotton candy. Took about 4 hours to clean it off with alcohol and a razor blade.
Answer: I used my grill immediately after applying the tape.
Answer: 1 hour set. 24 hour full cure at room temp. thanks
Answer: 24 hrs
Q:
Would this work on the door or my wood stove? Heat wise.
Answer: It's good up to 650 degrees
Q:
Would this smoker sealer high temp bbq gasket & adhesive work ok on my weber original kettle 22-in grill?
Answer: short answer, yes. Long answer, we have kits designed specifically Weber kettles that use a slightly softer material. Also, this is a self stick LavaLock gasket, so you might not even need the rtv adhesive. Please consider our Fireblack12 (1/2 x 1/8) self adhesive, or one of our plain Nomex kits with LavaLock RTV adhesive. thanks Island Outdoor LLC (BBQgaskets_online)
Answer: Yes it should work just find

Q:
Can this be used on a firebox? What is the temperature rating?
Answer: I don't think so. The temp rating is 650F
Answer: Yes it sure can ! I don't know the temp rating . I use it on mine with no problem
Answer: On some units yes, but we have specific gaskets for fire boxes/ call our customer service. we can direct you to an amazon listing. thanks!
Q:
What color is the adhesive? I'm looking to purchase in Black
Answer: i wanna say it was black
Answer: The sealer in the tube is Red
Answer: Product description above indicates RED.
Answer: Red
Answer: It's red
Q:
I've read that the self adhesive isn't always reliable. Would there be a problem with running a bead of silicone and adhering the gasket on top?
Answer: I had no problem with the self-adhesive strip. I cleaned the surface thoroughly, applied the gasket, closed the doors on my smoker and let it sit til the next day when I did the burn in. It's been a few years and it's holding firm. No problems.
Answer: In my case the self adhesive is working well. I have it on two of my smokers. Having said that I don't see how it could hurt to add silicone also. I ran the sealant around the chimney on a Masterbuilt vertical smoker and it prevents leakage. Hope this helps.
Answer: I haven’t had a problem with mine. I think there’s some type of high heat silicone you might be able to use.
Answer: I only used it to seal off the area between the fire box and smoker, and also on the door to the fire box. Worked well for me.
Q:
How long does the gasket measure?
Answer: Hi, Thank you for your inquiry. This gasket comes in 15' lengths.
Answer: 15'.................. 15 feet long

Denny C. : Stopped smoke leakage on my Traeger smoker.
Easy to apply, after I removed all the residue from my Traeger smoker. Smoke (and heat) were coming around the door before I applied this seal, now all the smoke goes up the stack.
Carey Bonds : Stuck to lid and chamber!!
Absolute garbage. Used on Oklahoma Joe's
Longhorn cook chamber. Applied exactly by instructions as far as surface prep and cure time. 1 week later go to install toggle locks, open lid and most of the gasket was stuck to the lid and the chamber. Looked like torn cotton candy. Fibers everywhere. 2+ hours to clean the crap off with a razor blade and alcohol so I don't have fibers all over food.
Glad I decided to put locks on now instead of the night before the 4th of July when I'm going to smoke Boston butts. Don't waste your money. Beyond ticked off.

Guitar Player : Great Product As Advertised
This gasket and high temp adhesive sealer works very well. I used the adhesive and installed the gasket on a vertical propane smoker to seal the doors and it withstood temperatures in excess of 550 degrees without any damage. Why the smoker ever got that hot is a whole other story.
Jim9 : Worked well for temperature up to about 350 degrees
This product worked well around the cooking chamber on my BBQ smoker.
I doubt it would work well around the firebox d(roughly 1,000 degrees) but it worked fine on the lower temperature cooking chamber.
terry halder : Great
Worked just way it should
darren c. : Didn't work as well as I would have liked.
Just didn't stick well.
Thomas Heineman : Works great on heating chamber of offset smoker
Works great on heating chamber of offset smoker. Gasket is already coming off on the heat box, but no big surprise.
Amazon Customer : Not as good as I thought it would be
It did not really stick as well as we thought it would. It was also not think enough for our grill to fully “seal” it. We tried to double the tape but it just fell off. Would be great if it could be thicker. It did help some of the smoke stay in the grill so not a total waste.
Karissa Thompson : Five Stars
Did a great job at sealing up those pesky little leaks you get with every new smoker...
J. Johnston : The fit was great
Added this to the door on my Rec Teq 700 door. Fantastic! The thickness is just right. As others have said the self adhesion was spotty, but, they include red rtv in the order no addl fee. So use it and keep the noise down about the adhesion already. I'm able to hold lower temps more consistently. Pellet burn rate change has been about the same. Logic says it should be better but I haven't noticed it yet. #LowAndSlow

DJ BIG L.E.S. : Great way to seal a smoker
This was a perfect kit to seal my smoker. It isn’t too difficult to install, just take your time, measure twice, cut once
Amazon Customer : Great seal!
Better than the rubber seal that came on the smoker!
Ysidro Jimenez : Just what I needed
Used this on my smokers. It sealed the doors no smoke!
matt : Awesome
Worked great on my treager smoker

Charles B. : Gasket will not hold up to firebox heat.
This review is for the high temp gasket and the RTV 650. The RTV 650 I would rate 5 stars and a good product. The door gasket even though claiming to be high temp Nomex completely melted on the first use. The gasket was installed on the top of the door on the firebox, and also showed damage in the chamber at the top of the door where the heat enters the chamber. Not sure what the product contains but Real Nomex does not melt, it may char but it will not melt from the heat. The chamber was running at 250 degrees with a small wood fire in the firebox, so it was nothing outside normal use on a smoker. Seeing the gasket breaking down from heat even in the chamber that never exceeded 300 degrees leaves me with the opinion that this is not a good gasket for wood-burning smokers. I wouldn't recommend purchasing.

Anna B : Smoking machine.
Sealed my smoker with this in February and having no issues.
darren c. : Didn't work as well as I would have liked.
Just didn't stick well.
Al K. : It would certainly make it adhere better.
It's OK. The adhesive could be somewhat stickier. It would certainly make it adhere better.
Keith : Great product
The product has worked great so far with my smoke box and grill
J Fife : Works great.
Worked great to seal the door of my homemade smoker although I've only had it on there for a few weeks and about 6 cooks.
Amazon Customer : Seals Great!
thinner than i thought but that's my fault, i got a lower end smoker with gaps and cracks and this sealed it up great where i needed it to and my smoker works just as good as a high dollar one now.
Jim9 : Worked well for temperature up to about 350 degrees
This product worked well around the cooking chamber on my BBQ smoker.
I doubt it would work well around the firebox d(roughly 1,000 degrees) but it worked fine on the lower temperature cooking chamber.
Diane J Jackson : Thanks for an excellent transaction!
Just what I was looking for! Thanks for an excellent transaction!!
LINDA NELSON : Just what the EGG BBQ needed!
Great item, just what i needed. The first package was missing the adhesive but with just one inquirery the seller sent it out quickly and I’m ready to BBQ again. Great seller will do business with them again.
Kim Yu : It doesn't like that much heat
Works as advertised. Just don't use a propane torch directly on it. It doesn't like that much heat.
TroyLee : Works great
