Is there a reason why some have rtv & some don't? i have a masterbuilt electric smoker that i want to seal better.

Answer: this is a self stick gasket..... the rtv is to seal up other cracks and gaps that don't require a gasket and don't need to be opened and closed often

Answer: RTV is more for holes and crevices. The gaskets is for openings. I've had this on 2 smokers for a few years now and it works amazing.

Answer: User preference I'm guessing . RTV can be used if you are bolting or screwing to halves together and the gasket can be used for bigger or out of range gaps on your doors or etc . it would be what your application is calling for .

I used the felt around both doors and I recommend buying this product for a much better seal. I have a small amount of smoke sleeping through but nothing like my Brinkman vertical water smoker.

Answer: I too have one but really not sure about your question. The only smoke I get out of it is through the exhaust on top and around the wood chip feeder. If you have leakage at the door check the factory seal, it might need replacing.

Will this be enough gasket for a Oaklahoma Joe Bandera vertical smoker?

Answer: It should be if you measured your door to check the total length to the amount of gasket that it says it is then you should be OK. so if the door totals 12ft and the gasket is 15ft then you have 3ft left over .

Should this be used on a trager grill?

Will it work on firebox?

Answer: First thing I would do is measure my smoker and then see what the dimension of the gasket is from the manufacture and compare the two to see if it is the right size . but I'm sure it would be the same as any other smoker on the market .

Answer: Don't know the smoker and the gray material is one size, 1/2" wide approximately 1/4" thick.

Answer: the gasket is partially flame retardant. not 100% flame proof.

Answer: you could but its better to do them opposite each other on both surfaces so they meet together. LavaLock makes thicker gaskets too

I have a pit boss vertical smoker. Will this stuff work for it? Or do you have something on Amazon that you recommend?

Answer: It would work for everything but the door. Seals up hard so would not be good for the door itself. This product works best for barrel type smokers.

Answer: If the gap is large enough, yes. If it is very narrow, you could use a bead of high temp silicone. Kind of hard to help, since you don't mention where smoke is leaking from.

Can this be washed after each use to keep the gasket from gettng rancid from grease?

Answer: It is a felt-like material. I have gotten it wet but never concentrated spray directly on it. It seals the smoke chamber increasing efficiency. The more you use the smoker the better it seals. Not really greasy or rancid but I use the rig 3 times a week. Frequent use is key. On my second season and I am happy with the product

Answer: Sorry not sure. But definitely has helped my smoker with some of the minor gaps

what is the longevity ?

Answer: I’ve had mine on for over a year still working great

How long does it need to sit up before using smoker?

Answer: I let it set overnight. Unfortunately when I opened the smoker, it had stuck to the lid and the chamber. It pulled apart like cotton candy. Took about 4 hours to clean it off with alcohol and a razor blade.

Answer: I used my grill immediately after applying the tape.

Answer: 1 hour set. 24 hour full cure at room temp. thanks

Answer: short answer, yes. Long answer, we have kits designed specifically Weber kettles that use a slightly softer material. Also, this is a self stick LavaLock gasket, so you might not even need the rtv adhesive. Answer: I don't think so. The temp rating is 650F

I've read that the self adhesive isn't always reliable. Would there be a problem with running a bead of silicone and adhering the gasket on top?

Answer: I had no problem with the self-adhesive strip. I cleaned the surface thoroughly, applied the gasket, closed the doors on my smoker and let it sit til the next day when I did the burn in. It's been a few years and it's holding firm. No problems.

Answer: In my case the self adhesive is working well. I have it on two of my smokers. Having said that I don't see how it could hurt to add silicone also. I ran the sealant around the chimney on a Masterbuilt vertical smoker and it prevents leakage. Hope this helps.

Answer: I haven’t had a problem with mine. I think there’s some type of high heat silicone you might be able to use.

Answer: I only used it to seal off the area between the fire box and smoker, and also on the door to the fire box. Worked well for me.

I have a Brinkmann with offset firebox. So far I have only installed the gasket in both apertures (main cooking chamber and fire box). The length provided in the kit is long enough to cover both openings and you are left with 30 inches of unused gasket. The smoke leakage has been reduced significantly. I can control the temperature (by closing the vents and chimney) much better now.

It sill needs silicone in certain areas of the main chamber, I will update the review once I have applied it.

This product worked well around the cooking chamber on my BBQ smoker.
I doubt it would work well around the firebox d(roughly 1,000 degrees) but it worked fine on the lower temperature cooking chamber.

Added this to the door on my Rec Teq 700 door. Fantastic! The thickness is just right. As others have said the self adhesion was spotty, but, they include red rtv in the order no addl fee. So use it and keep the noise down about the adhesion already. I'm able to hold lower temps more consistently. Pellet burn rate change has been about the same. Logic says it should be better but I haven't noticed it yet. #LowAndSlow
