Questions about Van Staal VR175 Bailed Spinning Reel
Q:
Do you guys have the vr 175 in silver?
Answer: The VR series comes in only one color, it is a grey/silver color as pictured. It is not a polished silver like the VS series.
Q:
Is this the 2nd generation reel?
Q:
What size does this reel relate too, I know the vr200 is about the size of a 8000 reel and the vr150 about the size of a 4000 so is the vr175 6000?
Answer: Yes it is about the size of penn 6000
Q:
Is it good for 11’ mod-fast auction odm dna rod.?
Q:
Is it offered in left handed
Answer: Sorry, not currently
Q:
is there a right hand retrieve in this series at all, anyone ?
Answer: No. Not at this time
Q:
Do i have to put a backing on this reel or just spool with 100% braided line?
Answer: Best practice is to put some backing on and then the braid. Enough to allow 300yds of braid to fully fill a spool is how we do it.
Q:
Is the VR175 a left hand retrieve?
Answer: VR175 is right hand spinning reel.
Answer: Yes it is left and retrieve. Can not be converted to right hand retrieve like other reels. Best reel I have ever owned, I have 2 now. It will last a lifetime, unlike other reels its size.
Answer: Yes, this reel is a left hand crank. Let us know if we can help.
Product reviews of Van Staal VR175 Bailed Spinning Reel
BZ : You won't regret it.
Spending this kind of money on a reel isn't easy for most people; but if you fish on a regular basis, it's well worth it. As another reviewer mentioned, they do feel tighter than mid-grade reels. The gear ratio is much different than other manufacturers. The retrieve may seem a little bit slower, so if you're fishing for false albacore, you may feel like you have to reel much faster (than you already have to). I'm primarily a striped bass fisherman, and the gear ratio seems optimal. The term "drag" is a thing of the past, because honestly, I don't notice it anymore - it doesn't have a bail clicker. I use my VR175 paired with a Century Noreaster' 10ft. Often I fish upward of 16 hours, 5 days a week. I bought this reel in May, and it has really been able to take a beating. Primarily surfcasting, my reel has spent a lot of time submerged in salt water, with no issues. It does feel a bit on the heavy side, but if paired with the right rod, should not be an issue. You truly get what you pay for, and the function of this reel sells itself. I will never buy another reel that isn't Van Staal.
