Questions about SS Tournament Spinning Reel
Q:
What would be a good rod to team this reel up with?
Answer: Fenwick® Elite Tech™ Walleye Spinning is what I paired with this reel
Answer: I teamed an Ugly Stick and it worked fine. Bob
Answer: We bought a loomis rod
Answer: I put my SS 1600 on Lew's Speed Stick and I love it.
Q:
ss1600 what origin country were made .so many country make this product .I had 5 of them but 2 were made from Thailand all junk
Answer: I'm not sure. I guess you have to look at the reel foot ( Shimanos have the made in... on a sticker on the reel foot). My son's 1600 is his favorite reel. If you can inspect them before you buy them then you can pass on the reels from Thailand. Buying off the Web you just have to take a chance. I guess not too many reels are still made in the USA since labor is too expensive. Most of the reels I use are older Shimanos ( made in Japan) or Ambassadeurs (made in Sweden). They just keep going and going and.......
Q:
We’re is this reel made?
Answer: THAILAND,THE OLD ONES WERE MADE IN JAPAN,I HAVE ONE,STILL WORKS FROM 1995...SO I CAN SAY THAT DIRECT COMPARISON ,THAT THESE NEW ONES ARE STILL BUILT JUST AS WELL,BOUGHT FOUR DIFFERENT SIZES,ALL GREAT REELS
Answer: It is not made in Japan, not100% sure but I think it is made in the U.S.
Answer: Thailand
Q:
How many yards of 50 lb. braided line will the spool hold?
Answer: Sorry, but I am not exactly sure. The website shows (lb/yds): 10/210, 12/165, 14/135
Answer: Thats to heavy of line for this reel (even in braid). I would use 20lb braid. I get a little over 200 yards of 10lb mono on mine, so you may get a little over 300 yards in 20lb braid.
Answer: At least 150yds and likely closer to 175. Tight Lines.
Answer: Hy, i don`t use any braided line. Maybe you can contact daiwa US directly on www.daiwa.com and send your question. I think that they will answer your question.
Answer: I don't know because it stopped working the first time I used it. I emailed the company and they told to get it fixed.
Q:
how does this reel cast? I'm looking for a good lightweight surf reel
Answer: I have 3 ss1600; 2 ss1300; and 1 ss700. Great fresh water reels. Not sure about salt water, but casts great, good drag, handles braid well. No twists. Try it but clean after the trip.
Answer: It's the best spinning reel I've ever owned. Very smooth cast, ease of maintenance, will take a beating....
Q:
Why are they charging all the money for them if they aren't manufactured in japan ? Worthless otherwise
Answer: NOT WORTHLESS ! THEY ARE GREAT REELS,WORK-HORSES
Q:
so.. this is made in tahiland , right ? if it is made in japan i will buy it. i need to know that... who do i ask to ?
Answer: Yes, Made in Thailand.
Q:
Where is this reel made?
Answer: it is of extremely high quality
Answer: japan
Product reviews of SS Tournament Spinning Reel
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
Been using this reel for long time.
Martin J davis : Five Stars
Used to easily fight and land large sportfish, eg 40+" snook...
Robert Rowlands : the spinning reel all others should be compared to
I bought a SS1300 in 1990 when first introduced to the market, its long cast design was a new at the time. It was a top of the line design at the time. This reel has gone fishing for about 30 years now, its has handled all types of fish, big and small, never broke down, all original parts. I don't care how much money you spend on any reel, this is a spinning reel that will never let you down. It has a lots of fishing hours on it and fish. For the money I wouldn't even consider buying any other reel. If your looking for a very good and reliable reel for a modest price this is the reel you want. I even bought one for my wife whom has been using hers for 25 years herself. This reel will also outcast just about any reel on the market today. Its an outstanding product
brandydogsdad : Shhhhhh
This is probably one of my favorite reels. It comes from the whisper family and has a great feel and wonderful balance. I love this reel and will always own at least one. Maybe the best reel you can buy in the $100 range.
Tüschi 31 : I love this perfect reel
I love this reel, and like to go fishing on very big fish. Perfect Quality. Daiwa thank you very much.
Friend of Rosielass : best reel made for the money
I have used ss tournament reels for over 28 years. (1300's, 1600's and 2600's) I am just a die hard fishermen. (so lets get that out of the way) there are not to many people you will meet that will have used this item as much as I have.) thousands if not hundreds of thousands of kings, silvers, chum, sockeye, steelhead and large trout. (you ever landed 6 halibut in 100 feet of water each one over 60 pounds with one of these reels? well I have.) in my opinion these reels are one of the finest reels on the market for the money hands down. I would add to that and say they are also one of the most bullet proof, durable reels ever made for salt water spinning. lets talk about the "whys" of it....I would put these reels up against reels costing 3 times as much and if I was a gambling man would put my money on these reels winning. now...here's why. a bail that never fails, EVER! even with sand or silt in it. ( I always tighten the screw at the bail arm when I get a new one, sometimes they are not tight enough) after you do that they will never fail you. the spool....these reels lay the line on the spool at a 6degree criss cross pattern. (why is this important? ever had a king or silver that is 20 plus pounds of fighting furry make a lunge so hard it sinches your line down into the line on a spool creating a pulsing action to the drag that makes the line break? most spinning reels will do that and many fish are lost.) this reel ossilates the line laying it in a 6 degree cris sross so that the line can never get cinched into the spool. the difference between these and other reels in just that category alone is striking. I just do not loose big fish with these and my drag is even and controlled. they are smooth and light for a spinning reel as well. I have landed well over 10,000 kings on just one of the 2600 reels some pushing 55 pounds. (and this is from shore, not in a boat) ever try to stop a 40 pound king on a spinning rod from shore? how good are these reels? they are the only spinning reels I will own. I have over a dozen of each size. (I am not connected with diawa in any way. I say this as a loyal customer and ss tournements number one biggest fan.) you want a killer reel? take it from a legend (that's me) place your order and step into the light. craig stevens
