ss1600 what origin country were made .so many country make this product .I had 5 of them but 2 were made from Thailand all junk

Answer: I'm not sure. I guess you have to look at the reel foot ( Shimanos have the made in... on a sticker on the reel foot). My son's 1600 is his favorite reel. If you can inspect them before you buy them then you can pass on the reels from Thailand. Buying off the Web you just have to take a chance. I guess not too many reels are still made in the USA since labor is too expensive. Most of the reels I use are older Shimanos ( made in Japan) or Ambassadeurs (made in Sweden). They just keep going and going and.......

Answer: THAILAND,THE OLD ONES WERE MADE IN JAPAN,I HAVE ONE,STILL WORKS FROM 1995...SO I CAN SAY THAT DIRECT COMPARISON ,THAT THESE NEW ONES ARE STILL BUILT JUST AS WELL,BOUGHT FOUR DIFFERENT SIZES,ALL GREAT REELS

How many yards of 50 lb. braided line will the spool hold?

Answer: Sorry, but I am not exactly sure. The website shows (lb/yds): 10/210, 12/165, 14/135

Answer: Thats to heavy of line for this reel (even in braid). I would use 20lb braid. I get a little over 200 yards of 10lb mono on mine, so you may get a little over 300 yards in 20lb braid.

Answer: At least 150yds and likely closer to 175. Tight Lines.

how does this reel cast? I'm looking for a good lightweight surf reel

Answer: I have 3 ss1600; 2 ss1300; and 1 ss700. Great fresh water reels. Not sure about salt water, but casts great, good drag, handles braid well. No twists. Try it but clean after the trip.

Answer: It's the best spinning reel I've ever owned. Very smooth cast, ease of maintenance, will take a beating....

Why are they charging all the money for them if they aren't manufactured in japan ? Worthless otherwise

Gave it to my youngest son for Christmas. To my knowledge, he has not used it yet. I rated it as a 4 because he has had the SS1300 for a few years and loves it! I don't know why we stayed with Shimano spinning reels for so long! I love the old Shimano greenie Curado and silver Chronarch baitcasters but their mid-priced spinners don't seem to hold up as well as the Daiwa SS reels in saltwater use. We'll see if that's the case long-term!

This is probably one of my favorite reels. It comes from the whisper family and has a great feel and wonderful balance. I love this reel and will always own at least one. Maybe the best reel you can buy in the $100 range.

I purchased this particular reel back in January and finally got to use it a few weeks ago. On my first fishing session the anti reverse went out. I found this odd since it was a new reel straight out of the box. I took it to my local reel repair shop and I was told it was missing parts and was asked if I had bought the reel used. Unfortunately the return window closed and now I'm left with a vintage reel with missing parts. Parts for this reel are very difficult to find.
These reels perform beautifully when they have all their internal parts..

Lesson learned... never buying from third party sellers on this platform.
