Answer: A 30 pound stripper is a big fish to catch and bring in through the surf. Good luck with ANY surf rod and reel. But i am quite positive that the Van Staal VR 150 is more than capable of retrieving a fish that big. Let me know where and when you do that. Tight lines.......

Answer: You can get a lot of those specs on Tackle Direct or other similar websites. I don’t believe VS advertises the drag specifically but I’ve found it to exceed what others list it as both in terms of drag and also spool capacity. Not as smooth as a Stella but if you don’t want to reel the line in over your head at the beach and want something bulletproof this is that reel .
