Would the 6000 be plenty to catch tarpon and kingfish of the pier or should I go with the 8000?

Answer: Yes I think it would with the proper rod. I think an 8000 would be better paired with a heavy boat rod to pull sizeable grouper and snapper up off of reef in relatively deeper water than a pier. Good Luck!

Answer: All of the original penn clash reels are exactly the same. The only thing different on them is the spool size. I asked Penn if this was true and he told me yes ( nothing more and nothing less)

Tough as nails! I have been snagging with this reel about 6 different weekends since the first of the year. This reel has hauled in 60 plus high fin blue cat ranging 1 lb to 25 lbs all from 50 to 100 yards out. The 25 lb was hooked right in the back part of the tail. This reel is still as tight as the day I first used it. Drag is awesome too even when I got hung up and had to break off, the drag helped to get it done. When you get a fish on or when you are slashing through the water with a 5 ounce bank sinker, the handle is a dream to reel, very smooth and sturdy. No complaints and I have purchased the smaller version 6000 too, for slip corking in my favorite cat spots. Can't wait till the flats start running!! Good luck!
