Product reviews of Tribest SDE-S6780-B Sedona Express, Digital Food Dehydrator with Stainless Steel Trays
Amfire : Initial test run / update
Initial impression- Seems to be a well built unit. Once at temp- the door did pop open on its own. I noticed only one of the magnets on the closure was in contact with the strike plate on the glass. This was easily remedied- the tempered glass door was not completely seated in the hinge which caused it to be misaligned. The glass was gently pushed deeper into the lower hinge, which resolved the problem. I’ve seen several reviews on the internet stating- “ will not reach advertised temps” On the initial test run, it met / surpassed advertised temps consistently over a 4 hour period with a +/- 3.5 degrees measured from top to bottom rack from the set temp. The unit had no food in it at the time, but I suspect that it will perform equally well once the 40 degree food inserted on the racks comes up to temp. So far, pleased with the purchase even with the minor door alignment, quality control issue.
Update- The unit has run multiple batches of sweet potatoe, banana chip etc .... flawlessly. The first high temperature run was some bacon flavored ground venison jerky. The product performed as expected, no issues whatsoever. The Jerky was great and safe temps were reached and maintained quickly. Longevity will be the next test. This product will be used on a regular basis moving forward.

TPD : Great condition
We were concerned about purchasing a warehouse product but thought we would risk it for the savings. I looked wonderful. Only there was a problem with the door hinge that was easily fixed. No problems. Nuts and Jerky for Christmas! Works great so far and we love it and love the savings.
Gary H : Just get it
Used it 4 times since I got it. This is my 3rd dehydrator and I love it. Works so well!!
D. L. : Dream Come True!
I am so thrilled to receive this fabulous dehydrator. It was just delivered yesterday and I was very pleased by the excellent packing provided by the company.
I have been wanting this type of dehydrator for years, even though I own one with stackable trays. We make our own yogurt, garden and grow a variety of culinary herbs. Since I chose this dehydrator, I've read a lot of reviews and watched some fabulous video reviews by John Kohler on youtube.
I had considered purchasing an Excalibur, but many of the reviews I've read indicate that most of them are loud and they have a larger footprint. I'm not likely to need more capacity than this smaller dehydrator provides. Our kitchen is small without much counter space, so I've set this up on a table in a spare bedroom that serves many purposes. This dehydrator could easily live on a kitchen counter if someone has ample counter space. It's roughly 12 inches wide by 14.5 inches tall and about 17 inches deep so it doesn't have a large footprint in larger kitchens. I love the fact that it's so quiet too.
The stainless steel racks are fabulous. Mine arrived fully assembled. It came with an extra washable and reusable fan filter and the 11th rack. There were already 10 racks in the unit and the stainless steel drain/drip pan in the bottom. The tempered glass door was protected with a foam sheet and the minimal tape to hold things in place was a breeze to remove. Cushions to protect the unit during shipping were comprised of layered cardboard. No Styrofoam peanuts anywhere. Amazon shipped the manufacturers box inside a larger box with brown paper packing. My unit arrived in perfect condition.
I've been testing it using the different modes and an oven thermometer. The fast mode will and does fluctuate above and below the temperature setting. The raw mode is what I'll use to incubate yogurt, dry herbs and seeds that I save from the garden. The raw mode should not exceed the temperature you set. So far my testing indicates that it's operating properly. The filter should help protect the fan, electronics and your food from dust and I love that you don't have to purchase throw away filters for it. This unit has a single fan at the back of the unit. I think earlier models had two smaller fans.
My warranty card was mailed today. Some of the reviews I've read indicated that if you ever have to return the unit, you'll need to original box so I'm keeping it along with the cardboard spacers in case I ever have to return it.
Last, but not least is the 10 year warranty, which is twice as long as prior Tribest models. I think the all stainless steel Excalibur has a 10 year warranty, but it costs about a thousand dollars and it a lot more dehydrator than I'll ever need. It appears the model with plastic trays is about $100 less than this one with the stainless trays. From the videos I've viewed, everything except the trays and drip pan are the same.
NicbachDVM : High quality dehydrator comes with inflated cost
I've always wanted a food dehydrator, but could never really justify the cost. I was eager to try this one, mainly due to the higher quality parts (stainless steel) and almost no plastic.
It comes in a large box, and is about the size of two countertop microwaves. It's pretty quiet to operate and doesn't take up enormous amounts of counter space. That being said, this isn't something I leave out all the time because of its size.
Thus far I've dried a lot of fruit, and it's just as good as the stuff you buy in stores for a lot more money. We are very organic and our daughter loves dried fruit, so this has been a blessing. It takes a while to dry the fruit but you can do so much at once that it hasn't been a problem for us.
The filter behind the machine is washable in case it gets gunked up. We had to figure out how to work the machine on our own, because as others have said, the manual is just terrible. Few details, but lots of specs on the unit in case you want to know how many watts it puts out.
Overall, my family loves this dehydrator. I feel that it's overpriced, but then again, I haven't owned other dehydrators. We love the results and this is quickly becoming an indispensable appliance for our family.
Cliff Ellis : FDA will be happy with this dehydrator
I bought the Sedona Express 6780 from Tribest (cheaper than Amazon currently) and have used it to make beef and chicken jerky as well as dehydrate apples, strawberries, bananas and papaya. It does all these things well. I like the glass door and the front control panel. The trays are much smaller than the Excalibur. Even with 11 trays you only get 9 square feet of area vs 14 square feet with the 9 tray Excalibur but it was worth it to me because it fits better on my counter and I don't have to hide it in another room, therefore I actually use it more often. It is very quiet and I like having a fan filter at the back to keep out the occasional dust speck and who knows what else. The stainless trays do bow slightly after first use and retain that shape. I suppose it is metal expansion but it does not cause a problem. There is still plenty of space between trays for your food. Even though this unit is only rated at 450 watts vs 600 for Excalibur believe me that is plenty of power. It heats up quickly and overshoots the max setting of 167 by over 23 degrees Fahrenheit in FAST mode. It went up to 190 degrees and stayed there. Granted this was in FAST mode with an empty dehydrator. The salmonella bugs are not going to be happy although the FDA should be very pleased. In RAW mode the temperature also overshot the 118 degrees set point by 18 degrees to 136 Fahrenheit. So just compensate the set temperature if you are a raw food fanatic. As for me I am very happy with this dehydrator. It looks great and is easy to use and clean, it lets me reach and exceed FDA recommended temperatures for making beef, chicken and fish jerky. It also dehydrates my fruits and vegetables quickly. Oh yea it has a 10 year warranty if you quickly send in your registration which I did.
Rama Rao : Performs pretty well
I have been using this for the past four weeks and love it. I have dehydrated apple slices, oranges, tomato slices, onion rings, thinly sliced chicken, and raw cashew nuts. It works pretty well, but takes long when the slices are thick. The dehydrator works for both meat and vegetables.
This has Two-stage sequential temperature-timer (TST), which works in two modes to kick start the dehydration process so that you will spend less time to create your favorite nutrition-packed raw recipes. Just set the unit to the TST and watch it run in "Fast" mode of up to 167 F (in my machine it went up to 184 F) for the first few hours, then automatically switch down to "Raw" mode of 118 F for the remaining dehydration time. With this feature, you could prepare healthier food for the family. There is faint fan noise while the hydrator is operating, but the noise level is low and acceptable.
This model operates at 110 voltage/60 Hertz and at 470 Watts. The trays fit in perfectly and there is no sagging. The design is good and the quality is great; the unit should last a long time. It comes with a ten year guarantee, a remarkable faith of the manufacturer in their product. The trays are stainless steel and the drip pan at the bottom is also stainless steel. There are eleven trays, and the shelves are a little narrower but deeper. There is plenty of space to even out food for dehydration. The interior and exterior are made from a non-flammable and BPA-free plastic body. On the back of the unit there are two black projection handles which makes it easy to lift and move to another location. The machine has all-digital controls & displays; the glass hinged door is good for easy monitoring and insertion and removal of trays.
The package was delivered on time and the product was intact. I am satisfied with this product.

Cody Carlson : Lame Instruction Manual- Not Easy to Use
This food dehydrator is a pretty smart looking package. Digital displays, metal trays, and relatively light weight. The instruction manual, however, is not as clear as I would have liked, and frankly, I'm still confused about how exactly it is supposed to operate. I recently tried to make some banana chips and made a hash of it. The manual talks about the two different settings, yet offers little explanation of just what they do and why they are different. That was nothing, however, compared to actually trying to set the thing. The manual stated that you needed to put it in raw mode, so I pressed the button to set it, but it kept moving back and forth between that mode and the other, and would not let me just set it for raw. Am I missing something? I'm sure this item is very useful if you no how to use it, but unfortunately, I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

J. Silva : Works very well, but not "compact"
I chose this dehydrator because my daughter dehydrates fruits, vegetable, and meats frequently, and I thought I'd follow her lead. Certainly, the appliance works remarkably well. And just as certainly, I should have measured the dehydrator more carefully before getting it. If this is a "compact" appliance, then compact has been significantly redefined. I'd hoped to use this on a weekly, if not daily, basis. I can't do that with this. This is huge, heavy, and leaves very little room to use any other appliance on my fairly roomy kitchen counter. After my test of kale chips and parsley, I had to store it in the pantry and offer it to my daughter, who has a basement space for alternative cooking purposes and will put it to good use. As mentioned, both the kale and parsley, of which I had an abundance, turned out quite well. I followed the included recipe for kale chips, and the result was so much better than making chips in a range oven. The chips turned out crispy but not overly dry, and retained their green color and flavor. The parsley was very successful, as well -- a bright green color, full of flavor and ready to use for cooking throughout the winter. Unlike some reviewers, I found the trays very sturdy and easy to clean. They did not sag in any way. Wish I had a huge kitchen -- it's a good product I'd love to use if I could keep it accessible on my counter.
Patrick O : On the dry side
Top notch dehydrator. Easy to use, almost too easy as I kept thinking I was missing something. Three modes of operation, a quick(er) hotter mode (~165 degrees), a slower lower temp (~113 degrees), and a combination that cycles between the two, getting a faster start on the dehyrdation before shifting to a longer, slower mode.
Or you can set your own temp and duration. Can be set for up to 99 hours on the timer, or a permanent mode. It comes with 11 stainless steel mesh trays that are dishwasher safe and a drip pan. There is only room for 11 trays in the machine, so if you use the drip pan you take out a tray.
Design is attractive, and it's not too big, fits under our cabinets in our kitchen. Very quiet, just a bare hum of the fan. Opening the glass door pauses the machine, close it and it goes right back to work, so you can check on items or put in or take out trays as the process continues.
This isn't quite an industrial model, but it's definitely a lot of dehydrator for most people. But, if you're dehydrating a lot of different items or have a big family, this really is great. Can keep it going and have a constant supply for whatever you want.
John G. Wachter : BS Warranty - Don’t Buy!
3 years of using this machine and then the fan motor quit. Called, emailed trying to get an RMA since they have a 10 year warranty - TOTAL BS. No replies and no RMA. DO NOT BUY.
Weltonlj : Great buy!
I was a bit torn because this is quite expensive compared to other dehydrators, but this is amazing! It takes up less space than my old excalibur yet I can do more per load. It’s also tall enough to put mason jars into for making sour cream and yogurt. I absolutely love it.
Vitaly D. : Five Stars
love it!!!!!
SADEL : Eficiencia
Me ha funcionado bien, solo que tengo que rotar las charolas de nivel para obtener un resultado mas uniforme en el producto, si es tres veces durante el ciclo es mejor. Creo que esto podría mejorarse.
saada farsi : Thanks
Thanks i received the item
Pablo : Mine didnt work
Turned on put on highest setting .....10 hours later meat was still raw like it never even worked at all
Michelle R. : So far I love the fact that it's quite
Well I'm just now using the Tribest Sedona Express, So far I love the fact that it's quite , I have some Flax seed CIA seed crackers on now , when that is done I will give an more accurate review.)
TommyTooTechnical : Commercial grade food dehydrator designed for the home kitchen.
Quick specs: Heater rating: 167F highest temperature setting (averaged temp), 470W, 120V 60Hz Multiple modes (Fast, Raw, and Combination, and Continuous) Dimensions: 12.25"Wx14.5"Hx20"D Tray dimensions: 10"x12-7/8" Headroom (distance between trays): 1" Total capacity (surface area): 1416.25 cubic inches (9.83 sqft) Maximum programmable time: 99 hours per mode, 120 hours max for continuous
IMPRESSIONS: I love this unit. First of all, it's probably the nicest looking dehydrator I've seen and looks great as a permanent kitchen appliance. But more importantly it performs great.
On my test, I dehydrated 4.6lbs of beef round, cut into quarter-inch pieces, and still had two empty trays left over. I think it would have easily handled 6lbs of meat. The interface was intuitive and easy to use. I had no issues programming it. The machine dried my jerky very quickly, in just under 4 hours. The trays were surprisingly well constructed with clean welds and smoothly grinded edges, so the lack of sharp edges spared my sponges and steel wool pads when I cleaned them. The bottom tray is a drip tray however I can swap it out with the extra drying tray provided.
My jerky turned out perfect and was just awesome. If I knew how easy it was to make beef jerky, I would have done this a long long time ago and not spend so much money on it! If you eat lots of jerky, this thing will pay for itself in no time.
Anyway, I hope this review has been helpful!
E.Swope : A wonderful little device for preserving fruit, vegetables, and more
I'll start this review by saying that this is something I have thought about getting since I was a little kid, when I loved fruit leather. I still do, if it is made with fruit and not all kinds of other things which wind up in commercial product. Now I live on an acre in rural Hawaii, grow fruit, vegetables and herbs, and have other uses for it. We got around 500 lbs of lychee this year :) but agriultural restrictions prevented me from sending any to friends and family. I made jam, but, TSA prohibits mailing liquids. When I talked to the USDA, they said that if it were dried.... and so, here we are.
In addition, my daughter is training as a chef under a very innovative chef and has some interesting ideas of her own. I will update this review with information from her when she has the time to do some of the experimenting she's been thinking of.
To get more to the point, the unit arrived very well packed, with everything as expected and no damages. I note this because when I first looked at reviews for this unit I saw that several people had received theirs with damaged trays. We did not have that issue. The dehydrator is a great size for the home chef, gardener, or anyone who wants to preserve produce, condense flavors.... It is a little bigger than a microwave, and something which would fit in the average home. It works very well for drying fruit and herbs, and came with a booklet suggesting uses. It works as expected, and then some. My daughter says it looks like a miniature version of the one she uses at work (in a 5 star, award-winning restaurant). I am sure she is looking forward to playing with it and trying some creative things. No doubt I could learn some tricks from her. For myself, I am just thinking about drying the lychee, mango and papaya from our yard, making fruit leather, and and seeing how well starfruit dries. I may use it to dry herbs, as my daughter suggested. Where we live, nothing dries on it's own. (I am effectively in the rain forest.)
This is a terrific little device which enables you to do to preserve fruit, vegetables, and more, and which takes up less space than you might think (certainly less than my husband thought it would ;) We're very happy with it.
L.R. : I do enjoy working with it so I might be at it ...
This little dehydrator works very well. It has been used everyday since I've gotten it. Next season I'll have it from the beginning of the grow season so the food will get process as it is ready. I sometimes wish I had bought the larger dehydrator because I've a very large garden but know I'll be cutting back each year and and not having as many to feed. I do enjoy working with it so I might be at it longer then I'd expected.

John C. : Korean manufacture dehydrator is excellant
I wanted to start off by saying that this product is quality built. When I started to search for quality dehydrators, I wanted either USA, Korean, or Japanese manufacture in that order. No "made in China". I want quality. After searching for an hour and reading reviews, things started to look the same. The reviews all look the same. Good quality this. Good quality that.
I waited a bit to write this review so I can get my hands on it and test it out to give it a fair shake down. I have a restaurant. I know a good equipment when I see it. This is a great product. I bought the dehydrator with the SS trays and not plastic.
I've been using this dehydrator nonstop for over a week and the performance is solid. Programming is very user friendly. I did read the manual to understand the multi function feature.
I used 23 lbs of bananas on one of the runs. Cut them about 3/8" thick and dipped them in lemon juice. After about 20 hours, it was done. It was yummy.
If you read my review so far, you must be wondering why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. The SS trays are not built ridgid enough. All the trays moves slightly out of shape, but goes back to the original shape. If the outer frame was a bit thicker/stronger, it would not have caught eye. It isn't a big issue. Just an observation. For the price I paid, I expected a bit better quality.
I would highly recommend this dehydrator. Only time will tell about durability. I'll make corrections over time. I'll write up a review maybe a year later as well.
