Required by PADI, NAUI and SSI, this Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) is a safety device that all divers should carry on every dive. The SMB allows divers to mark their location when making safety stops, completing decompression stops or signaling boats if they surface away from the boat. It also allows shore divers to mark their location. This 45 inch long signal tube can be stowed easily in a pocket or clipped onto a BCD. It includes a safety whistle. When the SMB is inflated it is long enough to be easily seen from a distance and sturdy enough to stand up to any weather conditions you may encounter. It is also labeled with "Diver Below" so you can send it up to mark your location.

Surface Marker Buoy features an easy to use oral inflation valve with lock to prevent accidental deflation. The safety sausage is also equipped with a pocket at the Top for attachment of a Light, Strobe or Chemical Light for use at night. SMBs are available in your choice of Neon Yellow, High Visibility Orange or Bright Pink. Don't risk not being seen in an emergency, pick up a Diver-Below SMB today.

I keep this at the bottom of my gear bag when paddling. Hopefully I'll never need to use it in an actual emergency situation. I inflate it every time i clean it with fresh water. Never a leak.

Ron D. : Big shortcomings on this SMB.

To unroll it you have to undo the Velcro. Try this with thick gloves on. Better to have a simple elastic cord instead. These plastic clips are akward to release. The part that is pressed inward gets in the way of whatever it’s attached to. Also, as another reviewer said, it doesn’t have overpressure release valve, which would be nice, but just fill it up only about 1/3.
I’m having to modify mine to use an elastic cord wrap and adding a stainless steel snap clip. Too bad I didn’t realize these shortcoming before purchasing it from a dive store. Check out You Tube videos on using these SMB. Lots of good info before you use one.
