Questions about Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper Professional Fish Holder Stainless Steel Fish Lip Gripper 40 Pound Fish Lip Grip Tool with Scale Ruler
Q:
Is this suitable to use on flounder?
Answer: Flounder have a tiny mouth and using this would be a waste of time. You should be using a net for this fish.
Answer: No Idea! I do all fresh water fishing around the midwest and great lakes areas, though it has been good for my purposes. Bass, northern, especially catfish- it's done it's job!
Answer: yes it should be
Q:
Does it hold in salt water?
Answer: So far so good! The tape measure is rusted, but that's to be expected. This is my first fishing season with it, so I'll certainly know more next year. We wash it with fresh water after each day fishing...But it is a good lip grip for the money.
Answer: Piscifun Fish Grip can do all freshwater fishing ( rivers / lakes / wade fishing ) for bass, flounder especially for catfish. The STAINLESS STEEL tube and components won't break down in saltwater and will survive years of hard use. Rinse it with freshwater after each trip and 3 in 1 oil coat after each rinsing would help prolong its life.
Answer: wash with baby shampoo wipe dry and sray with pledge furniture cleaner and wipe off.good till next time.
Answer: Yes, has worked well
Q:
Does the head swivel?
Answer: No,the head can not swivel.
Answer: Head does not swivel.
Answer: No.
Q:
Has anyone used the camouflage one without the measuring tape, that is also the more expensive one? If so how is it working?
Answer: Yes I have the camo one and love it. The scale works perfect and I haven’t had a fish get out of the grip yet. So if you don’t need the tape measure go for it!!
Answer: Mine is black, why would you want a camo model which you couldn't find?
Answer: not me
Q:
Is there a difference, other than price? Black or General?
Answer: Yes, there are different. As Dennis said, The black one has a tape measure and a scale. The General one is just the gripper.
Answer: Black has a tape measure and and a spring weigher
Answer: The black one has a tape measure and a scale, where the General one is just the gripper
Q:
Will this rust in saltwater? I want to use for wade fishing. I don't expect it to last forever, but I would be happy with a year of rust free use.
Answer: I have no idea..but I know from experience that anything in my tackle box that is over say 8 years old has started to rust..I would definately rinse it with fresh water after each trip and maybe coat with some 3 in 1 oil after each rinsing to help prolong its life.. good luck
Answer: I rinse my saltwater gear with fresh water after every trip.Even this precaution can't keep the tape measure from rusting. The gripper is still in good shape though.
Q:
Will it weight a 2 or 3lb crappie accurately?
Answer: Yeah, the scale of this gripper stands up to 40lbs / 15kg.
Answer: I believe it weighs in half pound increments.
Q:
Does this have a weight scale on it???
Answer: Yes,it has a weight scale and the scale stands up to 15kg / 40lbs.
Answer: Yes. It's built into the handle and operates under the weight of the catch. Reads up to 15 kilograms.
Answer: Hello, the one I ordered and received did not have a scale. If you are looking for something to grab those fish without getting a tooth in your finger, these are perfect.
Answer: Yes. It also has a tape measure that rusts and falls apart in less than a few months.
Answer: Yes. It can be a little difficult to read to low light, though.
Q:
How do you tell ho much it weights ?
Answer: There is a scale inside the unit itself. Once you have the fish clipped in the mouth, simple lift it up and you will be able to see the scale.
Answer: Scale stands up to 15kg / 40lbs.
Q:
How well or accurate is the scale when it comes to smaller fish? I can imagine this scale being custom to fish at least 10 pounds and over.
Answer: The scale is not accurate, but the grip is great.
Answer: It's pretty good for anything over about a pound. There are no markings between the pound markings so you gotta guesstimate oz.
Answer: It is not good. Better for larger fish.
Answer: Works great for any size fish excellent product.
Answer: Sorry I can't answer your question. I purchased the model that doesn't have a scale.
Q:
does the scale read in pounds
Answer: Yes,it reads in pounds and kilogram.
Answer: Yes it does read in pounds, although it is hard to read.
Answer: It does. It has tic marks in both Kg and lbs.
Answer: Tes
Answer: Yes it does
Answer: Yes
Q:
How many pounds can it hold
Answer: Don't know up to how many lbs it will hold but it has Has worked good to date. Handled a 28 1/2 inch Gag Grouper this week with no issues
Answer: the scale can hold up to 40lbs fish
Answer: I have not maxed it but I know will hold up to at least 18 pounds
Answer: So far it has hold 8 pounds with out a problem. My husband loves it
Q:
is the scale digital
Answer: The scale is not a digital one but on the holder body.
Answer: The scale is not digital. The weight of the fish pulls down the measuring tape, like a tape measure.
Answer: There is one with a digital scale and it will say it in the heading.
Answer: no,but has a scale inscribed in the steel when you have weight on it or pull on it just to see it.its great for grabbing catfish, i like mine, use it all the time.
Answer: No, #'s are written on the handle. The more the fish weighs the more it'll pull it down and reveal the higher number (being the weight).
Answer: No, not on this one. It is a metal pull out one attached to the lip grabber. It's rusts, but that's to be expected with use in salt water.
Answer: No it is not*
Answer: No. It isn't
Answer: No
Q:
What is the length of the actual lipper? I'm hoping to find something to fit in a 7" pocket.. thanks.
Answer: The total length of this fish gripper is about 24cm/9.45inch. Hope it helps! Please feel free to contact us if you have any other issues. We will always be here if you need us. Thank you so much.
Q:
Is there 2 units of measurement on the scale so that weight can be read in both pounds and kilograms?
Answer: Yes,you can read it in both pounds and kilograms.
Answer: has both, Standard and metric
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does this scale read ounces too? For example 15lb 4oz, could you see the 4 oz?
Answer: No, the scale has no increments except pounds. I bought it for the ability to hold a fish and measure it's length without causing damage for slot limit fish. weight is not a issue.
Answer: No, you only can see lb or kg. We can take it into consideration when we improve it in the future. Please don't hesitate to contact Piscifun Customer Support if you have any issues. We will always be here if you need us.
Answer: Yes, if you have excellent vision and a steady hand. The larger issue with this product is, the tape rusts and the painted-on numbers fall off
Q:
Does the knob/dial at the end of the end of the handle have a purpose since it rotates?
Answer: It doesn't rotate. Please choose Camouflage Fish Gripper if you need a gripper with rotate handle. Hope it helps! Please feel free to contact us if you have any issues and we are happy to assist you.
Answer: It does not rotate. It contains the tape measure.
Answer: The knob just hold spring in for the weight scale
Answer: I noticed that too, but to me I don’t know why that rotates. Other the that I love to gripper.
Answer: I don't think it does... the tool is really just for lipping and weighing fish... the tape measure only works like twice before it rusts and the paint flakes off. It's a great gripper and scale though especially for the price.
Answer: Probably has to do with the scale. I bought the model with out the scale. Sorry I couldn't help you!
Q:
Why does it say in the description that piscifun didn't authorize Amazon to sell there products? And how would i know if it's a fake?
Answer: I don’t know. The product is good though. If I bought a fake fish grip that’s a little different than buying a fake Rolex
Answer: I believe it said they did not authorize “other sellers” to sell it on Amazon and to make sure it came from piscifun.
Q:
how hard is it to read (the scale) for fish 10 lbs and less. thank you
Answer: the scale reads for 40lb / 15KG and less
Answer: its difficult I am putting some white paint in the grooves but they are not etched in too deep. I sould of got one from Bass pro shops..
Product reviews of Piscifun Fish Lip Gripper Professional Fish Holder Stainless Steel Fish Lip Gripper 40 Pound Fish Lip Grip Tool with Scale Ruler
Keep Fishing Forward : Built in features!
The lip gripper is small and compact. It is sturdy enough to withstand some beating. Easy quick release with a trigger lock grip. Built in scale. And has a great feature that I have been wanting to see in a fish scale and that is a built in ruler to measure your catches. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an all purpose fish gripper at a great price!
JOHN GREENE : Great Grabber
This is the most comprehensive item of this kind of kind that I ever found. It not only grabs the fish, but weighs it and can measure the length as well.
Danny : Not digital
Read read read and look carefully. Thought it was digital because of the blue tape they have in front. But it’s not!
Rikiya Fukuyasu : Reconsider buying this product if you go fishing often
I have only used this for 5 or 6 fishes. Gripper works great. I would give 5 star to the gripper but 1 star to retractable tape measure and the scale. First off tape measure works but it gets stuck and hard to pull it out or put it back in, then the scale is not giving exact weight. Scale gets stuck and doesn’t want to flex. If you want to get all three combined, I would rethink about buying this. Instead I would buy each one separate from some where else.
R. Shinall : Grips the fish.
This device grips the fish very well. The scale is of little use as it does not appear to be very accurate. The measuring device works but does not retract very well.
BigWillyTX : Awesome product for the price!!
Great gripper for the price. Have used this in salt water exclusively 7 times and it has held up very well. I did oil the tape measure to prevent rusting as reported by other users and that has not been an issue. Would definitely buy again.
Corey Dixon : Strong gripper
This was a great addition to my kayak since I hate using nets from it. First day I brought it with me I caught a decent Largemouth, and it was so much easier to grab the Lip Gripper that was hanging from my fishing vest. It had a very good grip on the fish, and I was able to unhook it very easily. Releasing the fish was just as easy. The tape measure is dead on from the end of the metal hook part. It is a little hard to see the scale, both when cloudy and sunny. I haven't tested the scale against another scale so I can't comment on that part. Overall it was a great purchase.
Caleb M. : Save your fingers
These have saved my fingers many times.
If you fish Northerns or Muskies these are a must. They do a great job holding the fish in place while you unhook and/or measure it.
I'm not sure of the science or pain or whatever is behind these but they do seem to keep the fish from thrashing around the boat hurting itself, or you which is a nice bonus. They seem fairly calm once you have these clipped on. I'm sure that big 55" Muskie that's waiting for me someday will prove this theory wrong. So far this has held up well for the few smaller ones I've caught.
I'm not a huge fan of the scale in the handle. If you're keeping the fish its probably fine. I wouldn't hold up a bigger fish by the jaw like this though. Not if you're planning on putting it back.
I'd also advise against using them in a softer mouthed fish like a walleye. I made that mistake once and these pushed right through. On a northern pike and a muskie or two, they've been life savers.
I don't think they float so I always, always use the wrist strap because I don't like buying things twice hahaha.
As for the action on thse, they open pretty easily and smoothly. They seem to be well built and feel like they're going to last.
Kelly H. : Four Stars
Not designed for big fish. But can help out with mid-sized toothy critters.
Amazon Customer : Like the feel of it
I gave it a 4 that I brought from your star but I haven't a chance to use yet, I have nice long sleeve shirt I really like. Do you have any stickers or hats that I can receive for advertising your company...Thanks again I will see how this product works. I purchase a Pacifun Torrent casting reel that I am trying out tonight on a over night boat let you no the report. Thank you
Bryan D. : Works Great!
Very helpful when removing lure form Northern Pike
Wade : None the less it is a very handy tool because you never know when you need to weigh your next personal best!
The bigger the fish the more this gripper will hold. The weight lines are actually per pound, not half pound as advertised. None the less it is a very handy tool because you never know when you need to weigh your next personal best!
mark walker : Three Stars
Does not weigh smaller fish well. A 3 lb bass did not move the weight scale
dolan : Cool and durable but the tape requires maintenance
Awesome, lightweight, handy. Made of durable material. Like it very much. Have 2 of them. Rated 4 stars because:
-the scale is difficult to read
-the tape (measure) corrodes easily. It requires maintenance after every trip it is used in water. I spray wd40 on it after each use where it was submerged or exposed to water. So far i own them for a year now and the wd40 does a good job
don quijote : It wont last. Mine stopped gripping and started staying ...
It wont last. Mine stopped gripping and started staying open on its own in a few months and probably about 6 fish. Almost lost a 30lbs striper because of this thing. Dont trust it.
Honest Adventurer : Good pair of grippers
I do alot of walleye fishing on lake Erie. I've been putting thing to the test ! It's saved my hands from the usually gill plate slice or tooth snag. Even with some smaller fish it just makes handling so much easier to have a good grip without worrying about getting a nasty slice. Plus some of the fish like big sucker carp or buffalo that you don't want to touch period. I like to avoid the slime and smell when possible. We set the net on the edge of the boat. Grab the fish with these ,use some pliers if needed to remove the hook and toss it right back. They seem well built with a solid grip.
The only downside and for me personally it doesn't matter because I bout them for gripping period. The scale at least on mine is not accurate. Anything under 6 lbs all shows about 2 lbs. And the tape measure rusts. Still rolls out and retracts but it's already pretty rusted up.
If you're mainly buying them for grippers you will be happy !
Ted R. : Well made inexpensive device.
Price is right, no batteries to worry about, measures heavy fish well. Not recommended for smaller fish under 5 #. Bottom of handle sets spring for accuracy. Used dumbell plates to check various weights. Perfect for the weekend or professional angler!????
Kokopelli fan : Get one for conservation!
Put it right to work, does exactly as advertised. Easy to use, makes releases better for the fish with no handling: worth the purchase for conservation alone.
RoRo : A must have
The fish lip grabber works great. I usually keep with my fishing gear but it's compact enough that I just hook it to my belt. I would highly recommend it.

k.s : Best Fish Scale/Tape Measure Around
This is exactly what my son needed for his tackle box! He loves the design of the scale/tape measure because it won’t hurt the fish. Excellent seller and customer service! Thank you for your personal touch!
Fishingski : Great product, great price!
Well I just wanted to write a little review on this product due to it not having many reviews on this site. I only had about 30 minutes to fish today but I got in in the mail today and had to try it out. I got lucky and caught a 1.5lb on the first cast. ( I always start right there because there is always a fish sitting there) I got to try the scale and as well as the measuring tape that comes on it.
I am a tournament angler in a bass boat, but love to pleasure fish out of the Jon boat and or kayak and the occasional bank fishing. This is an amazing tool to have in either a backpack or tacklebag. My boy is going to love this thing. He’s 5 and has trouble holding some big fish. This gripper will allow him to hold better with two hands.
The gripper seems to have great quality, this spring inside has good tension and keeps the jaws closed tight and won’t allow accidental release of the grip. After gripping the fish you can check the weight in either LB or KG. The highest I could pull and see with my hand was about 32lb. Which would even be great for catfishing. Quality was great and very comfortable.
The measuring tape is an awesome added feature. Never seen a gripper with this feature before. It’s awesome because it’s already connected to a tool. 2 and 1 package deal right here, especially if you are limited on your tackle storage.
Where I can see this thing really coming in handy is the creatures with teeth. (Pike, walleye etc...)
But All and All I love this thing and glad I made this purchase. Going to keep this one with me for years!
Joe : Awesome, but tape measure starting to rust :(
Super AWESOME! The reason I marked it down is after only 4-5 uses the tape measure (which is what makes me LOVE this thing so much!) is starting to rust and is getting harder to pull out. I now have to push it back in rather than it retracting itself. Still amazingly fast and easy to measure a catch!
T. Pratt : Great grabber for the money!
Purchased this lip gripper for my annual fall fishing trip. So far, this gripper has stood up to many 30-40 pound striped bass from the Long Island sound (salt water fishing). Easy to use: Just open the grip, release it, and it's not going anywhere! It's small, lightweight, and gets the job done. There is the added bonus of the weight and tape measure too. So far so good- it's taking a beating and keeps on going... Will update when I have successes or problems.
UPDATE: the tape measure is rusting, but the lip grabber is still holding up. Washed with fresh water after each salt water use, and put up through the winter with some WD-40 sprayed on it and seems to be holding up. Will definitely update in the fall!
Kokopelli fan : Get one for conservation!
Put it right to work, does exactly as advertised. Easy to use, makes releases better for the fish with no handling: worth the purchase for conservation alone.
Jeff Tucker : The only problem I have with this thing is that ...
The only problem I have with this thing is that I bought it because I was regularly catching large blue catfish, and of course since I bought it all I've been getting are small one to three pound channels cats....but the scale and tape measure works great
suespitts : Nice design, but made for use with very large fish.
Nice design, but made for use with very large fish. Measures in whole pounds, no ounces.
hombre243 : Grips but does not harm the fish
Perfect. My hands aren't as strong as they used to be. Seems like I need a tool for just about everything these days.
CAH from Ohio : as described
Great price and is easy to use. Used it on a recent fishing trip, works like a charm.
Viktor Kravchenko : This is my second time I bought.
First one I lost.
This is second time I bought.
I like it.
Rozzie Bo : Fish Gripper
For the money every bit as good as a Boga for a fraction of the cost. You could buy 4 of these for the price of a Boga.
Brendan Pitcairn : Great for the money
I was looking for a cheap gripper and wanted one that went past 15lbs max like my old one. For the money I was please with the quality and tape measure. The scale seems like it holds up better then other comparable grippers. I would have given it 5 stars but my tape measure rusted after the first fish I tried it on, but it still works just doesn’t recoil as well.
I have tried it with small fish, bass and larger catfish and it fits the bill, so if you are looking for grippers that don’t break the bank I would highly recommend.
Terry Elliott : I think you you will find this product a great addition to your tackle box.
This was a wonderful piece of equipment it especially great when having to unhook big catfish. I give the product 4.5 out of 5.
Justin Gamerdinger : Durable!!
Just took this lip gripper out of the box and the first thing I noticed was how well made this product is! The scale works flawlessly without needing to have batteries! I really like the handle as it fits my hand perfectly!
SeanA : Great value for the money.
Perfect if you don't want to know the exact weight of the fish. Excellent value for the money. Holds fish securely by the lip so you don't risk tearing the gills out with the hook that some scales come with. If I want an exact weight, I put this on my digital scale hook, zero it out and then hook this to the fish.
Ted R. : Well made inexpensive device.

It was all well at first. I've had it for a short amount of time and found a plastic threaded piece in my boat. It fell out of the bottom of this and now the weighing portion of the grip does not work.

Good quality. You get a measuring tape. My go to gripper. Highly recommend this..

Mike Griffin : Lip Gripper with Scale & Tape Measure
This item is durable, accurate, and easy to use. The only drawback for me is that the markings on the scale are so small they are difficult to read with a fish flopping around. I think a back lit digital scale would be easier to read, but sometimes they have issues with accuracy, or wait times for warm up, prior to weighing.
SeanA : Great value for the money.

Works great
Bryan D. : Works Great!
