why does the description say "manual"?

How do I turn it on? I plugged it in and nothing is happening.

Answer: There’s a safety lock. The handle on the right side that locks the bag in place must be pressed into locking position and then press seal/ vac seal. I don’t believe there’s a light that comes on when plugged in. Only when it’s locked. Safety thing I guess.

Pretty good product, irritating that it often seals without vacuuming the air out.

I purchased this item from Kohl's website not Amazon, but it's the same product. I liked the extra features on this model. It didn't work properly, so I called the company and they gave me the option of them replacing it or exchanging at the store. I chose exchange at Kohl's. Foodsaver #2 didn't work either, so I returned it also. I have now ordered the FM2000 model because my son has this one and it works beautifully. i don't understand why this model has a glitch because the only difference between this one and FM2000 is you can store a roll of bags and a built-in cutter. If I could, I would have given this model a "no star" rating. I highly discourage purchasing this model of Foodsaver.
