Is this bait good for bass? How would I work this bait if it is for bass?

Answer: If your going for smaller bass, these butterflies should do well, whether fly fishing under cover or near lily pads, as the sun is setting is usually a good time. If your going for fish over 3 lbs other baits would be better. Hope this helps!

Answer: Good I just work it slow with about 6 inch tugs the only problem I had the blue Guille love them so getting past them to the bass.

Are theses good for trout and the rivers in Oregon?

Answer: These are flies I would give to a beginner. If you want flies you will use in Oregon, your best bet is to get information near the locale where you will be fishing. Orvis has a spot on their website that provides such info. You can then shop for those flies specifically. I suggest that once you have that info, purchase a range of hook sizes for each fly type. De-barb all hooks.

Although I have yet to get these in a river, I was truly amazed at the quality, the colors, the realism and price of this set of flies. Having fished my entire life, one thing I can attest to is knowing what works. I've fished the rivers in Alaska and the mountains of North Georgia and in between. You can't buy flies of this quality for less. And if like me, the hands are just too old to tie flies. Then grab these. You won't be sorry. I'm heading to the mountains in 3 days. I honestly can't wait to try these out. If possible I will update. Or rather if lucky. Definitely recommend adding this set to your tackle.

Great buy! I purchased these for my 18 year old Son for Christmas along with some other fly gear. We intend on going trout fishing in a stream here in Missouri soon. But, before we hit the stream we decided to try these out on the lake that we live on. We often fish it for Bluegill, Bass, Crappie, Catfish, etc. on various baits. My 9 year old boy hooked up a fly to a cane pole and the action started! He had a blast catching Bluegill and Bass and we put some of the flies through a beating in a couple of hours. We did not break one, they stayed tied tight and it was a great time. All 4 of my boys ended up with them on thanks to the example set by the youngest. Funny how that works sometimes. So, in short, they work, they are certainly worth the price. I often visit Bass Pro and spend too much money but have found that this Company has great prices on their gear. I checked out their site and found a bag that I might try out and of course more flies because I am sure that my boys will end up with all of these and Dad needs some too right?

These work great for panfish and pretty well for bass too! On initial cast they sit on the surface like a fallen bug. On the retrieve, they return a few inches under the surface. Easy to fish. Great results. After a few catches, the wings eventually come off and the remnant acts like a nymph, which seemed to work just as well. I'll buy more of these.

Full disclosure: I am a beginning fly fisherman. I have been fishing high-pressure freestone creeks in Colorado and doing OK, not great. I fish Tenkara. I've fished these butterflies twice. On either my braided line or my tapered mono line, they float to the surface and land gently just like you want them to. They are gorgeous to see and I consider them little pieces of art, HOWEVER, you absolutely need to treat them with floatant - preferably the desiccating crystals like Loon Top Ride or they will turn into little wet shapeless wads tied to a hook. Treated properly, they float beautifully and maintain their shape. Having said that, I was successful and caught a lovely Brook trout on one of these the other day, and then was disappointed to realize that the hook was BARBED. Bad karma. I went home and debarbed all these hooks. -1

These were inexpensive, so I can't expect them to land 50 terrifying vicious bluegills, but they will work well for about 20. For trout, I had to change after 5 nice rainbows. Maybe if they'd used a little more nail polish when they tied them off, they'd hold up a little better.

I haven't had a chance to test thought out on some trout, but I think they will perform quite well. They have shiny colors which I feel will easily attract trout. The hooks are small enough that the trout shouldn't notice and the feathers make them appears as little moths. I am new to fishing trout, but I am very excited to test these guys out! I think they are perfect for an armature!
