Answer: 1" at each end and it narrows slightly to 7/8" (possibly 3/4" at some point).

Answer: Yes they can! I spray painted mine flat black.

Can these be used on Steel cables on my dock to the shore?

Answer: If you plan on tightening the steel cables around the buoy then no. If you are planning to let the buoy hang loose on the cable they'll survive a while. They are strong buoys but tight steel cables might be too much.

Answer: Theses are hard styrofoam. A steel cable might shred them apart over time.

Answer: it is combined listing for both 5x11 and 6x14, you can select at "select".

would they work to hold cables to attach a floating island to locate the cable when the floats are taken out of the lake?

Answer: Yes, this is exactly what I use them for. I have a large raft that I pull out of the water during the winter. Then I attach the cables to the floats to make them easy to find the following spring.

Answer: That would depend on the size, length, and weight of the cables. These floats might support a couple lbs. maximum.

Answer: if you do the math- its about 14lbs each

loucarisma : These are great for kayak outriggers.

Used these for kayak outriggers. They worked extremely well. The 3/4 pvc went right through the center with a little pounding with a rubber mallet. I slightly rounded the ends and sprayed with spray lube no problem. Two to three seconds per bouy. Would absolutely recommend these for this application.

I wanted to use these to make outriggers. Every time we tried to take the dogs in the canoe, they would try and tip us. I wanted to make them a space and give us room for gear. I decided to take plans for an outrigger and mix them with plans for a dog hammock bed. I measured our dogs bed and figured our their weight that would be on each side. That helped me know how big to make them and how many crab floats I would need. Since the floats were not just to keep us from tipping we had to take into account the 60 pounds on each side of dog and the 15 pounds of PVC and fabric. I went with 4 of these per side, and as you can see in the photos, it worked out pretty well!

It's a crab float. Nothing to it. But I wanted to say, if you're planning to use these for kayak outrigger, which I did, based on suggestions here and YouTube, the 3/4" PVC pipe will fit with A LOT of hammering with the mallet. Let's just say I got a good workout. So don't expect it to slide right in snuggly. Other than that, the float itself is a dense foam, even with my hammering it did not lose it's color or shape. It actually didn't do anything to the foam. Still looks and feels good as new. ????
