Questions about Okuma RTX Light Weight Spinning Reel
Q:
How much larger is the rtx 35s than the rtx 30s?
Answer: RTX-25S 6.0:1 7BB+1RB 6.6 29.5 8-lbs 310/4 (0.15), 200/6 (0.20), 150/8 (0.25)
Answer: The rtx 35 is only slightly larger. I use 12lb fluro and has more than enough capacity. I use it for finesse fishing and is very light weight, excellent drag and quality. I've caught 25-30 bass so far this year and love this reel.
Answer:
Answer:
Q:
How much 8lb can this hold?
Q:
Slowest shipping ever?
Q:
Can you purchase a larger sized knob for the 25 series? The reel is super smooth and feels great for finesse fishing but the knob/handle is small
Answer: My suggestion would be to check with Okuma, they might be able to provide you with that.
Q:
What type of line does the capacity refer to? 10 lb braid is much narrower than 10 lb mono. thanks.
Answer: The ratings listed on the reel are for mono. For braid , i would suggest 15-30lb braid depending on how much line capacity you are looking to get out of the spool.
Answer: Conventional monofilament line. The spool will hold more of braid of the same class weight. Cross-reference line diameters to determine approximate capacity with braid.
Q:
Do the 30&40 come with the big power knob handle shown in the pic
Answer: The RTX-55 and RTX-65 feature the oversized power knob handle. The smaller sizes come with the handle shown in the picture.
Answer: The handle does not seem big to me. The pic is accurate. I can say this reel is great for picking up the slack.
Answer: I have the 30 and has the same knob as shown in the photo.
Answer: Mine did
Q:
Is this a good combo for twitching jigs?
Answer: The reel is a good size for twitching jigs. You want to make sure you have the correct rod for this application.
Q:
Will the aluminum gears in these reels hold up to a 50+lb halibut? I fish ultralight and need something with more line capacity.
Answer: If you are using ultralight tackle and have your drag set correctly, you should be able to land a 50+ pound halibut with no issues.
Q:
I have a 9’6” lamiglas x11 that I plan on using for drift float fishing for salmon on the rivers. Which model of this reel will fit best?
Answer: I would personally want a larger capacity reel when targeting Salmon. The largest RTX reel only holds 205 yards of 12# test line. I prefer heavier line weight for Salmon, which greatly diminishes the line capacity of even the largest RTX reel.
Answer: I would suggest the RTX-40 spooled with some thin diameter braid to increase the line capacity.
Q:
what is the exac weight of RTX-25S ?
Answer: 6.6 oz.
Answer: 6.6 ounces without line installed.
Answer: 6.6 ounces.
Product reviews of Okuma RTX Light Weight Spinning Reel
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
Well worth the money.
J Takamori : Light and Smooth
Super light and very smooth. Not Stradic smooth, but for half the price I don't think you could beat the value.
YAN K. : Five Stars
Very good, lightweight
Jim Isbell : Amazon and seller, what are you thinking?
I do NOT own one one, but based on available info, it is top notch as to performance. As to longevity, who knows how reels will hold up over time, especially new designs. But Okuma in general--I have an old model, it has been great, strong, and has held up over many years. ONE COMPLAINT is not about the real, it is a complaint against Amazon and/or the sellers. If you want to sell nice reels on line, do NOT make people search elsewhere for the basic specifications, which include line capacity. And telling people "go to the manufacturer's website", or using the ask a question button--and waiting for an answer- is crazy. YOU are the one selling the product and you want me to go elsewhere to research the basic info for what YOU are selling? Look, if I have to go to eBay, or go to Cabella's, or Basspro, or the manufacturer who graciously and FOR FREE gives me that info, guess what? I WILL BUY IT FROM THEM. And this from a guy who truly loves Amazon and really respects their shipping and return policies.
Chris : Very easy to clean
I have had this reel for a year now. It has gone to the boundary waters, cumberland river, mid michigan, upper michigan, lake Michigan ect. Very easy to clean, works very well in every environment. It need to have new spools available.
Lady in red : Lightweight - Just what I wanted.
So far so good. I recently completed making my first custom spinning rod and needed a reel to go on the rod. This is a smooth casting, ultra light weight reel. I have had it out a few times and love the feel of it. The drag is prefereable to the other reels I have. The bail smoothly clicks over and I had no trouble at all with it. I am mainly a high elevation trout fisherman, so this is the perfect set up for me. Light enough to take anywhere on a hike to a lake, but still works great on a boat.

I have 2 of these now - great reels - light, cast well, & quick retrieve rate.
Tom : The RTX is a great reel but this one was a dud.
I already had the 35 size of this same reel when I ordered this one. I wanted another RTX reel 1 size down because the 35 can be too large in some situations and the 30 would have been more comfortable. I love my 35 size reel, it's light for the size, very smooth, and well made. That is why I ordered the additional size 30. The size 30 arrived and it was defective. It felt like the gearing was bound up or misaligned. It was the furthest thing from smooth and I sent it back. I'm not rating it 1 star because I know how good these reels can be, but I did get a dud.

good reel.
R. O'Brien : I do love this reel
I do love this reel, it is very smooth. You're not going to be able to buy a reel of this quality for this price from many other manufacturers. My only small issue with this reel is that the high speed gearing makes every fish feel 3 times the size. It's not terrible but I'd recommend the regular speed reels instead if you are older or have some sort of issue with your wrist strength. Quite a few times I thought I had a 6lb smallmouth on just based on what it took to crank it and they'd end up being 3lbers. (not that i'm complaining)
Alex : Okuma is a contender
I could not resist purchasing the 30S model at less than $70! This reel is lighter than a Shimano Ci4+, saltwater approved and and at a fraction of the price. Smooth in its casting as well as its drag. I've paired it with a St. Croix 7'6" Inshore Mojo rod for some finesse flats fishing. At 6.6 oz, I can cast it all day with minimal fatigue. I can't give it a 5 star rating until after I've fished it for at least 1 year. Kudos, Okuma.

Excellent product thanks
rowantree : My only complaint is that the bail does not trip as easily as I would like
This reel compares favorably with my old Stradic 1000 FI and is a bit less expensive. My only complaint is that the bail does not trip as easily as I would like, causing a small problem when you need to retrieve as soon as your lure hits the water. Other than that, it is smooth, well balanced. The Okuma rods (5 to 51/2 feet) are a really good buy as well.

Sight on : 2nd was charm
First reel was defective. Amazon sent another.. prime two day shipping. The reel is very lite and works very well. Cast all day long in chill index of 20 below zero with 20 pound braid and no wind knots. Just lots of ice on line and still cast well.
GSC : Excellent fishing reel
Quality Okuma product
dubik99 : I got it for backpacking, i. e. ...
I got it for backpacking, i.e. need something small. Turns out it is much bigger than my old Shimano. Bottom line: it's not that lightweight and is not that small. If you want small go with Shimano.
Andrew Romocki : Better not catch any large fish with this reel!
I have used this reel for about 6 months now and unfortunately the last large fish that I caught destroyed the reel. If you are looking for a lightweight reel and have virtually no chance on catching a fish larger than 10 lbs then this is a great reel as its smooth and lightweight. The bail does not trip easily however after a few months and you have to manually trip it. I have a house in Florida that I am currently in and have spent about three days a week fishing so the reel definitely had some use.
The 13 lbs of drag is a little on the low side considering you can buy an Okuma Baitfeeder spinning reel that has 20 lbs of drag, is far cheaper, more rugged, has no problems tripping the bail and has a bait feeding system. I have three of the Corronado Baitfeeders and in my opinion they are infinitely superior as well as cheaper.
A few days ago I caught a large something on 20 lb braid with this reel. I fought the fish for about 5 minutes and then the hook popped when I had him within a few feet of the shoreline. After the battle the shaft on my reel was bent so the reel was done. I have already ordered an additional Corronado as its replacement!

Nathan Weber : Good for steelhead
Excellent reel so far. Have it on an okuma guide select pro, running 10lb pro mix to a 6lb drennan lead for big steelhead and browns. No issues so far. Been out 5 or 6 times, about 20 fish later. Mine was a 4000 size even though I ordered a 3500. Kind of annoying... bigger spool means faster retrieve though so not all bad I guess

johnson : Takes a licking and keeps on ticking
extremely lightweight but durable reel, perfect for almost any style bass fishing in florida. I the misfortune of dropping mine in Rodman reservoir last January but was lucky enough to recover it in 10 feet of water over a month later. It still works like a charm after cleaning and lubricating it. Couldn't believe it. My favorite reel even better than my 15 year old stradic.
Russ Falardeau : Best spinning reel
So far this is the best reel I have ever own and I have lots other reels including penns. I bought this reel this summer and landed a lot of fish, stripers and bluefish up to 8lbs. No problems. I have made thousand and thousand of cast with lures up to 1 and half ounces with not one line tangle. The reel has seen sand and has been dunked many times in the saltwater. I spooled it with el cheapo 8lb test mono which is still on the reel. The reel is a perfect match for my 7ft glass rod. The reel and rod is stored in a non heater shed. Outdoors temperatures have been consistently below freezing here in Massachusetts. Yesterday I took the reel out for some cast and it stills performs like new out of the box.
I would not put more than 10lb test on this reel. It is a small one handed reel. If your going to put 30lb braid on this reel you might want to consider a Van_Staal.
Ash : My Favorite Reel
I've used this reel for two years now with 30-40# braid- it's been amazing! Has held up very well against chinook, steelhead, coho- you name it. I've dropped onto everything possible and has barley a scratch to show on it- so very hardy. The line pick up is just right for me as well and makes jigging marabou jigs just right a breeze. Comfortable to reel too... I'll buy another immediately if I lose this one.

teton river : it works fine but is a bit clunky when bail closes
I have caught a few bass and crappie on it, it works fine but is a bit clunky when bail closes.
JB : Great Reel. I use this on river small mouth
Great Reel. I use this on river small mouth. It is fast enough to take up the slack as they are jumping out of the water.
