How easily are treble hooks caught in this net? Is this a fine mesh where hooks tend to get stuck and are a pain to remove?
Answer: You can order the net with different mesh sizes. Mine is a fairly open/traditional mesh. Have had no issues, but I prefer not to use treble hooks, so your milage may vary. Sorry I couldn't give a more direct answer.
Q:
How wide is the metal band that holds the net?

Product reviews of Handy Pak Net - Plastic Handle Vinyl Pouch Made in America
Chris : Great net. Made in the USA!
These nets work wonderfully. Great quality American made product. There is an easily mastered trick to getting it folded back up properly. If you have trouble watch a YouTube video and you'll be good to go.
Al Jastrom : Four Stars
Nice net very handy
michael grosse : product wasn't so hot, but the customer service was stellar
I will attempt a review of the product, but with a caveat. My review is based more the customer service side of the equation. If I were to rate the net upon arrival at my home, it would be a 1 star. There was a minor tear in the netting, and the ability to get the net back in the pouch escapes me. The netting tear, that is on the company and an error on their side. The inability to fold it back correctly, that is on me, or blame it on genes. If the net is to be used primarily for catch and release and I am unable to use it, then the product, through no fault of its own, is a failure for me. I tend to be the kind of person that looks for the most direct solution, so when I called the Handy Pak Net company for resolution, the customer service that they provided me, tells me that this company stands behind their product 100 percent. So regardless of a good review, a bad review, the company stands behind their product, so that is noteworthy, and it seems for the present, rare. To recap, the tear in the net is unacceptable and problematic, but I also understand how it can happen. People make mistakes. The folding of the net, or rather the inability, that is on me. But should you have issues, the company has your back. That speaks volumes about the product. I will likely practice with it and master it. I may still have to go with another net, by another company, but the price point, the good reviews, the company standing behind their product...that means something, or it should.
Andy Madone : Plastic holder belt slots not good for wader belt changes
If you have a thin belt the holder will work. I imagine with some difficulty threading it through though. The back of the holder has two thin slits. I could never get my wader belt buckle through them so I riveted nylon belt loops onto the back to make easier changes between my two waders and regular nylon belt I use for wet wading. Seems like a weak design to me.
Daniel S. Todd : Great
Very nice, but takes a little practice to calapse.
Ark : Easy to Fold Up
Very compact after the fold
Norm Young : Handy Pak Net
This thing is so cool. It took several tries to get it to fold up correctly, but once I figured it out, it's pretty easy. Looking forward to may trips up the river with this.
Customer : Super compact/convenient, small learning curve, get to be a fishing ninja
Small learning curve when you first get it. Easy once you practice a few times. Love getting to whip it out of the holster like a fishing ninja when trout fishing. Pretty good quality so far with light use but not sure it will last.
Richard : 21 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG
Bought this net for wade fishing for American shad along the Merrimac river used it for 11 years it landed hundreds of shad.it worked great for that 11 years. Then I started turkey hunting and for the past 10 years I been doing that so the net sat idle.Turkey numbers have been decreasing the last few years in my area so I decided to go back to shad fishing this spring. Today I started looking for my old shad gear to get ready and couldn't fined the net any ware so I decided to look on line for the same net and found it on your site very happy and orderd one today.Found out later my son has been using it for trout fishing for the last 10 years. That makes it 21 years old and it got used every season and still works great! I highly recommend it to any one that needs a compact net. Rich Keyes Salem New Hampshire
William E Feltch 3rd : Five Stars
Really pleased with this product.
Pepper : One of the best fishing nets out there! - the collapsible/folding fish landing net
The collapsible folding fish land net is a trout fisherman's dream. My husband has had one for over 6 years. Now he isn't the fisherman that goes once in a while, through meadows and fields lol. He fishes hard, most times going 3 - 4 times a week for 4 + months. We have beautiful streams, but there is alder brush, trees haning in the streams, deadheads, etc. If you are a trout fisherman, you realize how difficult it is going through the woods with an unprotected net, that net lasts about one fishing season. However, because of the pouch and the ability to fold the net into the pouch, the results are great. It does take a knack at first to twist the net to fit, but that is because one thinks it will break. This is not the case.
This net was not for my husband, I ordered it for one of his friends because he saw what my husband used. He is so pleased with it. the plastic pouch also protects it from the sun. Luck to the fisherman in your family.

Cary : Collapse your net
I tried like everyone else to collapse my net. I followed the diections that came with the net, and watched videos of other people collapsing the net. The problem I had was, after twisting to get the fig8, 1 loop didn't align with the others. I did force the 3rd loop and other 2 aligned loops into the case. It didn't break the spring steel, but it obviously was not right. The directions say "this net is made of genuine spring steel, it cannot be broken or damaged in folding."
I have found if I am holding the handle with one hand, and top of net with other hand, then twist into fig8, but 3rd loop doesn't align, then I grab the net from a different place(like half way between the handle and the top) before twisting into the fig8. Sometimes I have to try grabbing net in several different places(always put hands on opposite sides of net) before twisting into fig8. If all 3 loops line up, you're good. If not, try grabbing net in another place, then twist.
DK : Great product. It takes some practice to collapse it ...
Great product. It takes some practice to collapse it back down after opening.
VT Fly : Compact net
Nice little nap that clip onto my belt when I want to go lightweight hiking mountain biking etc. to do some takara fishing up in high mountain streams. Wish I got to go snap instead I may have to do an upgrade. Twisting the net to store it takes a little practice but once you get it down it’s like riding a bike, you never forget

Joe B. : Great net.
I looked for a compact net for catch and release on trout streams. I really like this net, but it took me over an hour to collapse it. I read instructions and watched videos with no luck. I put it down for a while and when I picked it back up I had it folded quickly.
iowabrewer : Not guide approved - trout
Brought this on a guided trout fishing trip and the guide (16 years of guiding) didn't like this net for trout. His reasoning - my interpretation.
+ net material is too aggressive for soft skinned trout
+ net basket is too deep and the fish get tangled easily, he tied the end of the net making a shallower basket (pictured)
+ the net handle is too short and difficult to manage with a fish on a fly rod
+ metal edge is too harmful to trout
Going to hang on to the net for farm pond use but will find a more friendly trout net.

frankfrank : can be really difficult to get this folded at first
I have folded a lot of bandsaw blades and circular hoop types tents and so before I bought this I thought all the complaints about it being hard to fold were just people who didn't get that concept of how to fold a spring loop. That can be hard to learn at first but I thought I would be good since I have done it a lot with other products. Then I got this net in, watched all the videos, and could not get it folded for probably the first 50 tries or so. I'm a handy person so this was very maddening.
I believe the reason that some people have an easy time and others do not is that if you don't get it folded within the first few tries the hoop starts getting the wrong shape and that makes it almost impossible to fold right. So here is my advice: until you get it working right, make sure the hoop is very circular before each attempt to fold it, and watch the video on the manufacturer's site as it is better than the ones I found easily on youtube. Once I got it to fold a few times then it started keeping the right shape and became very easy to do. If I deliberately bent the sides back to be more flat (or worst case a slight kidney shape) the net would never fold right even after I had the technique down.
I could never get it to fold with the foot hold method that you use with a bandsaw blade or tent, so I wouldn't bother with that. I torqued it around pretty good in the wrong ways and it didn't get kinked or develop any shape I couldn't correct back to original, so the steel quality & heat treatment seems good for the application.
I wonder if a thicker hoop would make this easier to fold, as I have never had this much trouble with 3/4" bandsaw blades.
