Questions about Lazer Ready RIG-18 WITH1-1/2OZ Egg Sinker
Q:
I see some negative reviews which are directly against the primary use of the product. can you comment on them? lead not heavy and unwinding issues.
Answer: We have used ours countless times and I have never had a problem with the lead not being heavy enough and it unwinds nicely. All-in-all I think it has worked really well for us, the only unwinding issue that has ever occurred is when it was wound up improperly and it snagged, but that's user error. Hope that helps!
Answer: I use these in the Keys when I am scouting for Lobsters while snorkeling. I unwind a few feet of cord, drop the lead weight and the float marks the spot for my GPS when back on the boat. I do put them in my swim suit. If you put them in your pocket they will float out. I have had no problems.
Answer: I have had a set of these for about seven or eight years. Now, I only use them for one week per year up in Canada. However, I have not had issues with them unwinding. I think if you wind them too tight when you bring them in there could be an issue with unwinding, but I have not had that problem. This past summer I did loose on of the lead weights as the cord finally gave out (I think the weight got caught between some rocks). Anyway, we tied on some lead fishing weights and were good to go again. I'd buy another pair if I needed more.
Answer: It works well in shallow water. But not in deeper water. Don't use a to heavy weight as you will lose it. The weight sinks too fast and it does not unwind fast enough, and I lost my one. In deeper water it takes too long to unwind , and sometimes gets stuck going down
Answer: We did not have any trouble for our use, which was to mark where we were catching fish on a given outing.
Answer: I personally prefer the H shape over the round or barbell shape. Works better in windy conditions.
Answer: Mine works just fine. I would buy it again.
Answer: I have not had any problems with the four I have, they have performed as they should.
Q:
What are the actual dimensions of the bouy itself?
Answer: 4 3/4" long by 4 1/4" wide x 1 3/8" thick , the only problem I have with these is if you don't whined the line up correctly the next time you toss it in the water it won't unwind making you head back to buoy to fix. Also the line has a tendency to knot up and twist.
Answer: There are two buoys in the pack. Each buoy is approximately 4 1/8" X 4 3/4" X 1 3/8".
Q:
Is the weight made out of lead?
Answer: Mine purchased in June 2014 do have lead weights.
Answer: Yes it is. You might want to adjust it a bit so that it unwinds faster. Before you use it test it in shallow water. Otherwise you might loose it if your weight is too much.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
I have a question. Why are they 3 times more expensive than Academy? $5.99
Q:
I understand 75 feet; what does 6 ounces refer to? Is this strong enough line to use on a lure retriever?
Answer: 6 ounces=the weight of the piece of lead attached to the line. this line is strong enough for a lure retriever.
Answer: 6 oz refers to the flexable lead weight on the end of the line. This is what forced the line to unwind when you toss it in (and anchor the float). The line is pretty strong . Strong enough for use on a lure retriever would be (possible but) subjective. OF course, you could replace the line with whatever you want.
Q:
Would it work in the ocean witch the waves?
Answer: We live on a lake and use them here. They are not large and I do not think they would work well at all in ocean waves. Buoys for ocean use are sold, though.
Answer: Chad, I have only ever used them in lakes so can't speak from experience about how they would go in the ocean. I'm not sure how long the line is as I usually fish in water from 15 to 40 feet deep. However, in deep ocean water in a heavy swell I doubt there would be enough line to to reach the bottom or that the lead would be heavy enough to hold the bottom (if it got that far). You probably need something bigger with a lot more line and lead for use in the open sea. Hope this helps.
Answer: Yes, we have large waves on Lake Michigan also
Answer: That depends entirely on the wave height , current and how much line you pay out. The lead isn't that heavy so it has potential to get dragged if it's rough (just like a fishing sinker that is too light.)
Q:
what is the tensile strength of the cord?
Answer: Replace the cord is the first thing to do with these. Get some braided line to replace the existing.
Q:
whats going on with your prices??????????out of line on lots of items that i look at....

Kimberly : Best for the money
worth the money for what you need it for.
I have looked around and this is another joke market. Something that is cheap and easy to make, most are asking too much. This is by far the best deal for the money to mark in all forms of water.
RR : Excellent addition to the tackle box
Excellent addition to the tackle box! Works perfectly. Self deploys and stays on the spot. Does not move with wind or waves.

Good quality, perfect for impoundment fishing
Volker : Cheap, but great.
For this price, you can’t really complain. I use these down in the Florida Keys for lobstering and they work perfectly there. The “H” shape is a better design than the dumbbell shaped ones, because those continue to unroll too easily once the weight hits bottom. As the water gets deeper and the current get stronger, these will tend to unroll and drift off course more, but remember it’s just a weight on a string tied to a plastic block, not a gps guided trolling motor. The string is not very tough so be careful pulling it back up if it’s hooked on any rocks or reefs. I tend to lose or break one each year but I will always buy these as they serve their purpose great.

weight a little flimsy
Thomas W Powell : Good stuff
Great product and good quality
Luis M. : Precio calidad
Excelente producto y precios
Amazon Customer : Unspools extremely slowly.
Unless the conditions are dead calm, the marker will drifts off your original mark long before the weight hits bottom. A heavier weight might help.
Alex : Great
I actually got a pack of 2! I was expecting only 1 in the package since there is no mention of being a 2 pack.

Good price on these.
Dale Sevrey : NOT functional
When you throw one of these markers into the water the weight doesn't pull out the cord so it just sits there and floats away.......the round ones work perfect......these suck
Monster Trophy Catfish : Four Stars
Product as described and delivered on time.
Doug Lord : Does the job
It's a marker bouy. When you throw it in the water, the lead sinks and plastic floats. I've used it in about 15-20 feet of water so far and it takes about 8-10 seconds to get to the bottom. I haven't experienced any dragging, but I'm not usually in current or rough water.

excellent achat
gamecock88 : Good buoy
Great way to mark underwater structure you want to fish. Deploys quickly. May end up changing out the string at some point but right now it works. Gives younger fishermen a "target" to cast towards when not fishing docks or towards the bank. Used it off the shore line for bass fishing this summer when the bass went deep.
kevin burnside : very happy with product
Arrived on time, very happy with product.
David A. : Great for Kayak Anchor Line Management
I use one of these on my kayak as part of my anchor system. Specifically I store 30' of anchor line on this float and installed a carabineer on the end. This gives me the option to clip on my anchor, a length of drogue chain (or both). To use, I just unspool as much line as I need and then throw in a 1/ hitch to keep it from unraveling. When I'm ready to move on, I just wind teh line back onto the float. The float provides the added benefit of acting as an anchor line float if I need to drop my anchor line in a hurry for a Nantucket sleigh ride.
Since they come two in a package, the other does make a handy structure marker as designed.

Great purchase.

CopperDave : Works great for me!
I had never used marker buoys before but the idea sounded great. There ARE two in this pack, a nice perk for those who thought they were only getting one. The first time I used them, as someone included when answering the first question, they failed to unravel, and so were useless. Later, on land, I unravelled each of them and rolled them back up and now they both work as advertised. Friends noting I had caught a walleye asked where, as I was dealing with it. I pointed. No uncertainty there! The line length and weight are sufficient. The soft lead is wrapped around the center bar for storage, so separate them before tossing it over. The lead is attached to the string. Be careful - lead is a soft metal and much bending of it will surely break the lead bar.
