Questions about Weston 78-0201-W Dehydrator Netting Roll, 13.5" x 5.3'
Q:
How do you get the netting to flatten?
Answer: I've used an iron, or better yet, I've soaked the netting in very hot water and when removed placed on flat surface with a large baking pan on top with some weight in it until it cools. I leave it that way for storage also.
Answer: Cut the mesh to size and then placed it between a cotton towel and ironed it with a household iron. It flattened out just fine. Cheers.
Answer: Turn it over and put your what ever you are dehydrating on it and it will flatten out.
Answer: You iron it with a thick towel over top. Test a small corner before and adjust the iron setting if needed.
Q:
Are the holes small enough to keep corn from falling through?
Answer: Yes, the holes are only about 1/16" and would work for corn. The holes are small enough that wheat would not fall through.
Answer: No corn will not fall through. The holes are about 1/8 inches.
Answer: Did not get it but other reviews i see that small grains will fall thru and it will not lay flat it keeps rolling up as the weight leaves the items being dehydrated..
Answer: Yes. Much smaller than corn kernels.
Answer: Yes. Much smaller than corn kernels.
Answer: I have a redhead brand dehydrater I bought a roll of black dehydrater screen I woul guess maybe you could cover the screens with a piece of cheese cloth and it should work its worth a try it is a loose weave and wouldnt let things fall through hope this helps
Answer: Yes, I've even dried seeds with this netting.
Answer: Yes, I use them for herbs like Rosemary
Answer: Yes they are
Q:
what is it made of can you wash it
Answer: It is a food grade plastic. Yes, you can wash it. I just use dish soap and warm water.
Answer: It's a plastic mesh that's food safe. I wash them by hand in the sink with dish soap.
Answer: Yes you can it is a type of plastic
Q:
Im trying to make beef jerky, Can this handle the temp of an oven?
Answer: I only used it in a dehydrator. Worked there ok.
Q:
Does this work for Fruit leathers?
Answer: I don't know. The netting I bought didn't work with my dehydrator. My dehydrator does fruit leathers just fine.
Answer: nope, i am pretty sure the liquid would drip through the holes in the mesh.
Answer: I am sure it will, I have not tried that, but for meat it is the best I have ever used.
Q:
What is the country of origin?
Answer: Sorry. I don't know. I tossed out the box it came in. But it hasn't fallen apart. It's easy to clean and we have used in our food dehydrator for years without problems.
Q:
Have a 80 elite by Cabela's i need the netting that go under real fine food so I pray you do have them to sell
Answer: I bought a cabellas big dehydrator and use this netting. It comes in a roll so cut to fit. It won't lay flat so I used bread ties in the corner. Works great. I leave attached to the grate and put the whole thing in dish washer. You could untie and wash too
Answer: This is probably as fine as you want to go and still have good circulation. The mesh is 4x5 holes to an inch. I hope this helps. It is easy to keep clean and quite sturdy yet flexible.
Answer: Amazon has dehydrator screen. Just google it.
Q:
What is the thickness of the mesh?
Answer: It is quite thin without measuring i want to say close to 1/32-1/16 of an inch but durable.
Answer: I am looking for a fine screen plastic that would take the place the bag in a juice maker. Do you think this roll would work?
Answer: It is very thin, about 1mm
Answer: Less than 1/16"
Q:
is this BPA free?
Answer: You would be best served to ask the seller. I can tell you I love it. Cut them to fit and because they are in a roll they don't lie flat. I cut to fit and then twist tied the corners. Works great. Dishwasher comes out great.
Q:
What material is this mesh made from? Polyester, silicone?
Q:
What did you use to cut the netting into sheets? I have the round trays and since it is black, I cannot mark it with a Sharpie and cut with scissors.
Answer: I also used round trays. I bought a sheet of green poster paper, used a magic marker on the paper to trace out the size and shape I needed, and used scissors to cut out a template. I then used some duct tape to tape the template to an old piece of plywood. I could then lay the netting on the template and cut it with an utility knife, since I could easily see where to cut by the color of the template.
Answer: Great Tip: Sharpie makes a silver marker now. It shows up very clearly on black mesh :o)
Answer: I made a hard plastic template out of that thin cutting board material to fit my dehydrator. Then used it as a cookie cutter type tool to trace with a razor knife. Then you will always have the template for other types of tray liners.
Answer: You can take a piece of duct tape to outline where you need to cut.
Answer: Maybe you could cut them to size as squares, then fold it a couple of times and cut the corners off?
Q:
I want to use this to grow microgreens eill it keep seed like alfalfa from falling through?
Answer: Not sure the size of Alfalfa seeds, but the openings are around 1/16 inch, so maybe too large for the seeds.
Answer: I can't see why not, you can always make two layers. I don't know how big an alfalfa seed is.
Answer: I haven't tried any seed that small. Actually this is terrible screen for putting on a dehydrater. It keeps wanting to wrap back up. So I use it for other thing. The screening that I bought was mesh for a screen door/window. It works great on dehydrator and will unroll well. Go to youtube for more info on growing microgreens.
Answer: yes, it should fit for growing
Answer: I dont think you can use a dehydrator to grow food its a dehydrator it takes moisture out of food it dries food to preserve it I make Jerry and dehydrate jalapeños carrots spinach
Answer: No even larger radish seeds go right through. Would be great for peas/legumes though or buckwheat
Answer: I cannot tell, we never tried it.
Answer: I doubt it, but you could lay cheesecloth over it and that would work.
Q:
what is exact type of plastic, PP, PE?
Q:
Why is the weight of the product listed at 1 lb. and shipping weight is 4 lbs.?
Answer: Product plus packing and container shipped in
Q:
What is the width and length of the roll?
Answer: I have already cut mine so the length I am no sure of. The width is 15 inches. I got 6 out of it for my 10 drawers.i will get another roll soon. My garlic is almost ready for drying. The fruit leather sheet roll was great as well for the dog treats.
Answer: The roll is 13.5in. x 5.3ft...................I checked the label, not Amazon!
Answer: Per printed description at amazon >>> The Weston Brand 13.5in x 63in Roll of Dehydrator Netting
Answer: It's 13.5in x 63in Roll
Answer: I have already cut mine up to fit my Excalibur dehydrator trays so I do not have the original packing or know the measurements.
Answer: also>>>>>>>>>>>> Can be custom cut to fit most dehydrators. That is what I did to fit my dehydrator shelves.
Q:
have an old dehydrator that used food grade window screen material. Was held in the frame by a spline, just like a window screen. Would this work?
Answer: I use similar screen on mine. I lay it on the racks. I don't use anything to hold it in place.
Answer: if it is the large style spline yes
Q:
How nonstick is this? Ex: drying orange slices or peaches.
Answer: I've dried orange slices and been able to remove without too much trouble. It depends somewhat on how thick the slices are - very thin slices will be more difficult to remove than thicker slices - but it is definitely easier to remove dried fruit from the mesh then it is from the trays without the mesh. Cleaning is easy.
Answer: I used it for teriyaki jerky which can stick while drying. It did great with no sticking.
Answer: I used it for teriyaki jerky which can stick while drying. It did great with no sticking.
Answer: I had no problem dehydrating orange slices. Just a rinse thru warm water cleaned the mats.
Answer: To answer your question the dehydrator racks are not non-stick but they are not difficult to clean. The racks slide out of the unit and I have a large sink so I just soak them in hot water and then scrub them with a brush. For small food items you would need to purchase the dehydrator sheets. The sheets that I purchased are plastic and are easily cleaned. I clean the sheets the same way I clean the racks - just soak the sheets in hot water and later use a scrub brush to clean the sheets.
Answer: I haven't had any trouble with extreme sticking. Things like fruit will stick a little because of the sugar in them. But nothing hot water won't cure to clean mats off.
Answer: They do stick but still come up without to much trouble. i've done apples, peppers, apricots.
Q:
Can this be used to line the bottoms of planters to keep debris out of the drain holes?
Answer: I have a capella dehydrator. I use these screens on top of the racks to keep the slices from falling thru grates. The mesh comes on a roll, so it curls-- but I just use bread ties on the 4 corners to keep down. Works well. Put racks/attached screens in dishwasher. Works well. Glad I bought. If u need screen to lay flat to cover drain holes and there is not a way to use twist ties. I have seen mesh like this sold on amazon in sheets instead of rolls (bought some of that too). Blogs will talk about cutting off roll and putting in low oven to soften the plastic so it will lay flat.-I didn't bother.
Answer: smaller particles would make it through and clog the holes.
Answer: Finally figured out what you are talking about... I bought it for a food dehydrator. But yes it would work for flower pot holes. If you are buying a roll..... I hope you have a lot of flower pots!
Answer: I believe sand or dirt could fill the holes. If I were going to try that, I would put gravel over the top of it. I usually put a decent layer of aquarium gravel in the bottom of my pots.
Answer: You could
Q:
Is it bpa free? looks like this has been asked before, but seller didn't answer.
Answer: At the time I bought it yes it was listed as bpa free
Q:
is this suitable for a excalibur dehydrator?
Answer: It should be good for any dehydrator. Just cut the netting to fit. I have a LEM dehydrator.
Answer: I don't have an excalibur. I can tell you that it is easy to cut to size, and very solid and well made. I had purchased a different type of liner, and was not pleased. I would buy this again if I needed it.
Q:
is this one sheet or a roll; if it a roll, how what is the length
Answer: It is a roll. Not sure the length ,but I can cut it to fit 3 of my stainless steel wire racks with some left over. It does curl a lot, so I use stainless wire to attach it to the racks. Works great! I am pleased with the product.
Q:
Is this teflon and bpa free?
Answer: No teflon... dont know about bpa
Q:
What material is the netting made of?
Answer: I am not 100% but I believe a type of nylon. Why not ask the supplier?
Answer: It's a type of food grade anti stick plastic. Do not be alarmed about it being plastic. I have used mine over and over I wash it in mild detergent and it still performs and looks as the day I bought it. Really is a must have for dehydrating some items. I totally recommend this product
Answer: Plastic
Q:
Does anyone know if these can withstand smoker tempatures?
Answer: I wouldn't think so my screens are plastic my dehydrated doesn't get as hot as a smoker does
Answer: Yes, I use these in my smoker and they work very well.
Answer: I've used them in a dehydrator that reached 185 degrees.
Answer: no they cannot I burned one up
Q:
How stiff is this?
Answer: Not very stiff. They are actually flexible. When you first role it out to cut to shape, I had them in hot water for a bit in order to straight them out flat
Answer: It's rolled up and is stiff until to use it , cut to size put it on your grill put your meat or whatever your using on it to weight it down, and after the first time you use it will become flat. This is what I did and it works fine.
Answer: It is fairly stiff but I straightened it out by laying if flat and putting books on it.
Answer: That's hard to answer, it comes in a roll, you have to iron it to keep it flat. Or use hot water and a flat board till it cools. It is pliable.
Answer: .I have had a difficult time keeping it flat in my dehydrator..it wants to just roll back up and I tried the iron trick. Maybe over time it will be better.
Q:
Could this be used liked a mesh net to keep dubia roaches in a container and could it be glued with hot glue gun?
Answer: I used it as a screen in an oven to make beef jerky.
Answer: I would say yes.
Q:
is this a woven mat, can it fray at the edges or become unwoven?
Answer: It is not woven. It is molded plastic that easily cuts to size. I have had no issues with fraying or deterioration.
Answer: No, it is not woven
Answer: No. It is not like fabric. It is stiff, but pliable plastic.
Q:
What temperature will this product withstand?
Answer: I have only used it up to the 100 degree setting.
Answer: I haven't went above 300 degrees with it so, I know its good at that point.
Answer: I'm not really sure ? Sorry
Q:
Would this work as a fly screen?
Answer: It is pretty stiff.
Q:
do you think the netting holes are small enough to keep wheat berries from falling through?
Answer: I am not sure how big a wheat berry is, but quinoa would fall through, but medium sized rice would probably not fall through.
Answer: All I have is wheat screens to try with. The large wheat berries did not fall through.
Answer: Not sure I know what a wheat berry is, if this is a head of grain on a wheat stock, then no, it would probably fall through.
Answer: No. It would keep the blueberries from falling but not Wheat Berries
Answer: They're not, unfortunately. That was the reason I bought this product, but had to send it back when I saw the size of the holes.
Q:
How can a rectangle be 16” X 15” X 11”
Answer: Cut sides crooked
Q:
What is the length & width of this roll?
Answer: I don't have the exact measurements because I have cut it up. However I believe I purchased two rolls its the perfect fit width wise and there was left over after cutting one for each (10) tray. I love it. It is easy to clean a must have for smaller cuttings and berries.
Q:
Would it be possible to attach this to a wood frame to make a solar dryer? And how long does it last before it dries out and needs to be replaced?
Answer: I would imagine you could attach it to a wood frame, but you really wouldn't need to attach it. simply lay it on the frame. It would be easier to wash if not attached to a wood frame. I have used these in my commercial dryer at temps as high as 180 degree and they have held up for more that 3 years, and I suspect they will last for many more years.
Answer: I suppose you could attach them to wood frame, can't see why not. As far as drying out, I don't know. But I would think they would last a few years. I've had mine for 3 years in a regular dehydrator and there as good as new.
Answer: I'm not sure but it's pretty sturdy ,and has to be cleaned after each use .
Q:
Is it BPA free?
Answer: I have the netting which goes into the dehydrator. It is BPA free.
Answer: I don't own a Weston, I just bought their netting to use in ny deydrator. Sorry I have no answer for you.
Answer: I cannot remember the packaging. But I can say for certain I would not have purchased it if there were a question about that at the time of purchase.
Q:
Has anybody used this in the oven on top of the racks to dehydrate?
Answer: It will work on top of a "food dehydrator" rack - yes. I wouldn't put it in a regular oven. The role comes rolled up tightly, and some people have had difficulty getting it to lay flat. I recommend that you cut the sheet to fit the rack and then lay the mesh netting between a cotton towel or cloth and iron with your clothes iron. You can get it to flatten with heat.
Answer: Remember the show "Good Eats" with Alton Brown? He rigged up a home made dehydrator with a box fan and some a/c filters. Now the reason I forgot about it was the filters as I thought they couldn't really be food safe. This sort of screen should work wonders if you could build just a simple frame w/ piping or wood, and mount the fan underneath for the air circulation part of things. HTH.
Answer: No I haven't. I have a dehydrator.

Great product , just a bit of a problem with getting it to lay flat though I think over time that will improve.
Kevin : Good quality
Works great for small size foods
Lanisha Mclean : Not a good buy
I had the same problem as everyone else. The product would end up bending regardless of re rolling it in the opposite direction. I only use it once and threw it away. Also, the netting isn't fine, the gaps arent much smaller than the dehydrator trays so it kind of defeated the purpose for me.

Kathy Comstock : Five Stars
Works great in my dehydrator and easy to cut to fit with scissors.
smores : Does what it's made for.
Does what it's made for.Like previous reviews stated, you will need to iron this netting to flatten out the curl. I placed a thin dishtowel on top of the fabric and then used my iron set on cotton/linen with the highest steam setting. Lots of steam and good even pressure flattened the fabric right out. I only gave this product four stars, because the roll wasn't quite long enough to cover all 10 of the trays on my Cabela's food dehydrator. This sure does make it easier to dehydrate smaller items and keeps them from falling thru the larger hole in my dehydrator trays!
December : Works for intead use
I didn't have any problems unrolling it. My husband held one end - we measured what we needed, then cut.. It is perfect for the little things.. If they are too small - I have to use something else.. But, for most items it works great..
Kolache Kitchen : Buyer Beware!
I had to purchase a dehydrator to fit a small counter space. My machine like others, with the exception of the Excalibur, has too big of holes in the trays that will not allow drying of small items as they will fall through. I purchased this item to fix this problem. The surface is non stick, the holes are a nice small size the really really really BIG problem is that it will not unroll and become flat. I have pressed it down with pans, warmed it to flatten it, and no matter what it will not lay flat. It keeps curling up!! Did they even test this product????? If you dry something that has some weight to it as soon as the water starts to leave the mat curls up and the food falls off, then you have to dig it all out of the machine along with this silly net that has rolled up! I finally sewed it to my trays with yarn!!!! This did work. I should have been paid for trying to use it for the designed purpose, oh wait, it was not properly designed for this purpose!! If I had room for an Excalibur I would have bought one because by the time you buy a less expensive machine and try to deal with something to hold the small food on the tray it starts adding up. And I did try cheesecloth, the food stuck pretty bad. If you don't mind sewing this to your trays than this is the product for you! If they would sell this in flat sheets it would be a really wonderful product. Maybe the Excalibur people could make a smaller size unit for smaller kitchen spaces.
The Muscadine Mountain : but it is also thin and tears VERY easily! I'll be looking if something a little more ...
I only gave this product 3 stars because it was really small for my homemade screens. I was using this for my homemade solar food dehydrator. It definitely works and is non sticking, but it is also thin and tears VERY easily! I'll be looking if something a little more durable in the future.
Mary Covell : Could not uncurl
The netting was wound so tight that I cannot get it to lay flat. I tried hot water, Dishwasher and heating it in the dehydrator.
Doc : Hard to uncurl, but if you're patient, it's workable
This was definitely hard to uncurl. I use it in my oven so I can make beef jerky. I cut a piece the size for my oven, rolled it the reverse way, and left it for two days. At first, it looked flat. But when I let it sit for a day, it curled up again (though not nearly as bad as when I first cut it). However, one round in the oven (my oven only goes down to 170), and now it's perfectly flat. I put them in the dishwasher to wash, both before and after dehydrating, and they're fine. I was able to easily cut it to size with kids scissors.
Angie Hepp : Holes are too big for dehydrating sprouted grains.
The description does not indicate how large the holes are. I had to return it, as the holes are too large for dehydrating grains.
Amazon Customer : You get what you pay for great netting
Got this netting and like it so much bought another roll. I put the netting between two towels to help it get flat.

Amazon Customer : Thick quality matting
Well made product, easy to cut to size. I wish that the roll was longer to cut sheets for twelve tray dehydrator.
Amazon Customer : You get what you pay for great netting
Got this netting and like it so much bought another roll. I put the netting between two towels to help it get flat.
V. Cappuccio : Flat after one use
So glad I took a chance and bought two rolls. The netting is absolutely flat after one use. Here’s what I did. I rolled the netting in the opposite direction and let it stay over night (about 7 hours). Note: if you let it stay too long rolled up it well roll tightly again in the opposite direction. Just a few hours will do it. It is still curvy after rerolling but not nearly as bad. Cut squares to fit my trays. Took my stainless steel flatware (4 pieces per tray) and weighted down the corners. Placed parsley on the netting. Four hours into the dehydration, I removed the flatware (which was fairly hot to the touch but handle-able). You may wish to use potholders. Finished dehydrating the parsley and the sheets are flat now. Yay!

Yes once I got it flattened out ,it worked perfect it a good product I dehydrated carrots ,celery and jalapino slices it washes good .
Dr. W : High quality mesh
High quality mesh. Comes in a roll, can easily be cut to size with box cutters, relaxes flat after first use.
Nojo : This roll will not stop rolling up please don't buy
This is the worst product I have ever purchased. I have tried for two weeks to make this product to lay flat but it keeps rolling back up. I had to order another brand that does lay flat.
Lin K : It's ok
Pros: works well for dehydrating things that shrink.
nice air passage ability for the dehydrating process
Nice ability to cut to size. It was perfect in this way for my Cabella 12 tray
Cons: A pain to cut since it's on a roll and then stiff and keeps rolling up
Some items can stick a bit, which can make it a little difficult to clean. I find the best way is to use a dishbrush, place it against something harder (like a tray) and then scrub and rinse. Dry by placing on your trays and put your dehydrator on low for a few minutes.
This would be my favorite netting if they sold it pre-cut and sized. Four stars due to the difficulty in cutting and some issues with cleaning, but then that's with all netting.

Perfect for fruit, vegetables, meat, in your square dehydrator. TechTip: Heat them up to unroll them! PeakStratagem.com
Handy gal : Much more affordable than silicone.
As stated by others, it started out with a serious memory for rolling up.
After a couple of days use, it’s lying flat nicely.
I don’t live that it’s plastic, but silicone was too expensive as I needed 4rolls.

M. D. Jewett : Like it.
In order for the netting to work well it has to be ironed first. Place a towel on top of the netting and iron it flat. The netting works great after it is ironed.
Nicholas E. : Five Stars
Right on time and they work great.
bow2 : Good, basic kitchen tool
This product works great with my dehydrator. Be sure to do as other reviewers suggest and iron the pieces between a towel after you cut them to eliminate the curl. No problems at all and have been using them a lot.
Mary Ann : The sheets work fine if you can flatten them out
The sheets work fine if you can flatten them out. I cut to size and placed them under weights to help them to lay flat, but they still curl up. With the type of food being placed on them, there isn't much weight to assist in holding them down.
Jodi : Great item and so useful

Great product , just a bit of a problem with getting it to lay flat though I think over time that will improve.
Bill S. : Not what I was expecting
I was unable to get the netting to lay flat enough to be able to use it in my freeze drying tray as a separator. The product is sturdy enough for whatever use it may incur but be sure your needs don’t require it to be used without something to hold it flat (as in a frame or some such).
Anders : Great product but needs to be ironed flat
Love everything about this except having to iron it. Glad I could read earlier postings that told how to do that. Once we cut it to fit, then covered each piece with a wet cloth and ironed them it worked fine.
Esin : waste of money
Worthless, waste of money. Comes rolled up and you could but 100 ponds on it and still not straighten out. Wasted my money on these for our dehydrator
MrsBH : Dehydrator netting roll
This is the second time I've ordered this item. It is perfect because I can cut to size. Just don't do what I did; I left it in the oven and put the oven on to 425. OOPS! what a funny mess. It cleaned right up from my oven but it might not come off as easy next time. Gotta remember to remove it when the food comes out! HaHa!
