Does it work with vaccum and marinade containers

Answer: This does NOT work with the containers currently being sold on the FoodSaver site, per them. It only works with the containers you get with it. It is an old model and no longer sold on the manufacturer's site.

how do you clean the moisture catch?

Answer:

Answer: After removing it can be cleaned in soapy water or dishwasher. Then simply pop back into place.

Answer: It detaches from the machine very easily and goes back on just as easy. I have a full sized FoodSaver in my pantry and keep this handy little machine, that I use everyday, on my counter. Love It!!

Can this seal a Ball or Mason canning jar?

Answer: I bought special lids that seal two sizes of canning jars. I use the hand-held wine bottle attachment, also from FoodSaver.

Answer: No, but if you have a regular foodsaver with the hose , you can purchase a lid attachment for Mason jars. They work really well, but make sure your foodsaver has the hose attachment port.

Answer: My FoodSaver bags and container have a “port” where air is removed so my assumption is no, it is not designed to seal canning jars. However, I haven’t used the system long term, perhaps someone with more experience has devised a way to do it.

Answer: I’ve had both. The counter top model is my preference. Takes up very little space and I don’t have much counter space. Love it.

Answer: My measurements are: 5 1/2”W x 8 1/2“D x 11” H. Hope this helps.

Answer: I am very sorry but I don't know how to answer your question. I only know it's a hard plastic. Also thought I would let you know that it appears FoodSaver is not making these specific containers anymore. You can go on their website to see what they were replaced with. They might also tell what materials they are using.

Answer: Yes, it you use bags made for vacuum sealing.

Answer: I've used it with other vacuum bags with no problems. I found that the newer the bags the better due to the strength of the vacuum.

Answer: No. I don't think so as the FoodSaver bags are a zip lock bag with a special section on the top corner where you would use the machine to suck the air out of the bag. Ziplock bags, unless made for this machine and have that special feature, will not work. I hope this helps you....Stay safe!!!

will this stop avacados from turning brown?

Answer: No the only thing I can think of is to soak it in lemon or lime juice...nothing keeps it from browning.

Answer: Sorry, I can not give you a definite answer as that is the ONE and ONLY food I don't use this machine for. I will tell you that it works on everything else and works well. I really can't imagine that it wouldn't work well for avocados too. I would just use the appropriate zip lock bags made for this machine instead of the hard plastic container as pictured. Can whole potatoes be stored in a vacuum sealed canister in the pantry?

Answer: Yes you can store potatoes it will last a few days longer ,the vacuum seal will save food longer.

Can it work with meats

Answer: Sure. Using bags to seal and freeze meat is a great use for the foodsaver. I've not used one of the canisters for that, but I've used bags for it.

Answer: It will only work with the FoodSaver containers. You would have to put the meat inside of the container.

Answer: You can use the containers for meat and this system is compatible with most containers. I use only bags for meat that are stored in freezer. However, I do use containers for cold "short term" storage (mostly veggies and such) and for marinating proteins including beef, chicken, fish and the likes. This does not include the container specifically sold for marinating but I have both and found they work equally as well. This is a good deal, I don't think you will be dissapointed with this if purchased...

Washing bags how do you reuse the bags. How do you sanitize them?

Answer: You can wash them. If you are worried about sanitizing, add a little bleach to rinse water and let them sit for 5 minutes or so. I have never had any problems just using soap and water and air drying, however.

Answer: I wash them with dish soap, rinse in hot water, and let them dry. Have noticed that onion smell doesn't go away so I reuse those just for onions.

Answer: Usually I just wash out with dawn and dry. For meat and fish that was in bag, I put those in dishwasher.

Answer: These bags are considered "reusable" because you can open and close them as needed to use what you already put in it (like cheeses and cold cuts) but I don't think they are washable to be used for another item. I do not think you can clean them enough to make them safe to use forever. I have never washed them. I keep it until I use up the item I originally put in it and then throw it away. Answer: Yes, there are a few available from Amazon. I have a total of six various size containers and one marinade container. All work really well!

Answer: Yes, either on Amazon or direct from FoodSaver. This machine can also be used with FoodSaver zip lock bags that are made specifically for FoodSaver machines. How does this compare to the traditional flat vaccum sealer? Does it come with a hose? Can this seal bags as well as containers?

Answer: The full size vacuum sealer seals better for longer. This one is great for sealing things you will be using short term. (ex: cheese) It does not hold a seal for longer than a week or two. Sealed cut avocado and it stayed sealed for a week, then started losing the seal and turned brown. Does not come with a hose. Don't see how it would seal container without a hose. It did keep freezer burn off my pork chops even tho it did not hold the seal. Hope this helped.

Answer: This will only work with the zipper type bags, not the roll types. There is no hose but it does containers as well as bags. For bags you lower it to the bottom so you line up with the valve on the bags.

Answer: I have both this and the regular flat sealer. This sealer does not have a hose attachment. This seals bags that have a one-way valve in them. I believe you can get quart and gallon size with the valve. It does not seal the rolls of bags like the flat sealer. This is great for light use because the bags can be a little pricey!

Answer: This sealer does not need a hose, it is self contained. Can use FoodSaver hard containers and FoodSaver bags. You CAN NOT use the rolls that enable you to make you own bags and freeze. If you do not have a FoodSaver machine already, I would suggest buying the regular machine that does it all. I have been using these machines for many many years and love them. Answer: we use the 1 qt and 1 gallon bags all the time , have not used the containers yet. We love it because it is just the two of us and it fills our need to freeze steaks or chops individually. easy to use and does not take up a lot of room in the pantry. make sure you order there bags. no hose at all. just put meat in the back, position the bag and push down the handle.

where can I purchase more containers?

Answer: Buy another set (unit/containers). No idea why containers only seem to be impossible.

Can I purchase extra containers?

Answer: We love this. It is perfect for two people or single person. If you go on Amazon search bar ask fir food saver accessories and all types if containers come up. I also order two size extra bags.

Answer: They now come in a 19 piece that is so incredible. It comes with two large of containers Each one can hold a large container of spring mix each.

Answer: The Food Saver website used to carry extra containers. You might check there but it is very limited.

Answer: I was able to find a set from the UK sold here. I would keep checking Amazon if none are available now. The Foodsaver site has not been helpful. If I had it to do over, I would buy another unit with the 2 containers. You can keep the unit as backup or maybe sell it elsewhere!

Answer: To vacuum seal wine bottles, purchase FoodSaver 31161370 Cordless Food Vacuum Sealer Handheld ~$25 instead. You'll need Foodsaver Bottle Stoppers ~$10 (for 3 stoppers) also.

Can it used for Other brands containers with valves?

Answer: you have to check the valve carefully. some will work and other will not. the manufacturer of the other valve may be able to answer your question.

What is the difference between this one and FM1230?

Answer: Don t know. Look at the pictures and descriptions.

Did you receive the storage items in the description? It says it comes with two containers (one 3cup and one 5cup) and 6 bags (3qt + 3 gal).

Answer: No, it did not. The description from Amazon stated you would receive the following: 3-Quart & 3-Gallon Vacumn (vacuum is misspelled in their description) bags, as well as 1-3 cup & 1-5 cup fresh Container.

I highly recommend this very reasonably priced food preservation device. As advertised, it keeps refrigerated (not freezer) and dry foods fresh much longer. Also in the box was a starter supply of ziplock bags and a very nice sealable container. I’m favorably impressed and think you will be too!

A bit noisy, but, IMMO, this system beats the hand-held devices I've used up until now. And although FoodSaver "recommends" you use its proprietary bags, I've used my old vacuum zipper bags with this system and it works just fine w/them.
FoodSaver canisters are airtight and totally transparent. Planning on completing the two-piece set that comes with the system with the larger canister (ideal for marinating).
Will have to see the durability of this system in time, but, for the modest price, it seems to be a good gamble.

I bought this product on Amazon and it did not say where it came from. I think that this is a USA product because I cannot use it in the UK. I wasted my money because I cannot take it to the post office to return it because I am a disable person. Amazon should have mentioned that it came from the USA

Edit: One lid will not hold the "Remove to clean valve" cover that fits over the part where you vacuum from on the top side. I haven't removed it for cleaning very many times, but it absolutely will not stay in place now. Contacted seller, but have little hope I will hear soon after the last time I tried to get information from them. I am finding that the containers are losing the vacuum on a regular basis. It may be user error, but if they are vacuumed with the green 'button' depressed, I expect them to stay that way over night. I am also finding it does sometimes turn itself off when using a bag, although instructions clearly say to turn off the unit yourself. When they work, they do lengthen the lifespan of foods. When they don't, it is just like any other container. Disappointed in shelf-life of containers.

Edit: I posed a question on the actual FoodSaver site to see if some containers they show would work with this machine. It took them 4 months to respond to tell me this unit is old and the containers they now sell will not work. So - if you buy this machine and want more containers, buy multiple machines. I have also found that it is a crap shoot as to whether bags or containers will stay sealed for any length of time. I am assuming it may be user error in making sure they are totally zipped (bags) or lids are perfectly aligned. I just find it odd that they initally seal, but sometimes lose the seal over night.

I initially purchased the sealer that went with my old unit that uses a hose. Not only was that horribly slow, I had to drag out my unit every time I wanted to reseal a zipper bag. That wasn't exactly what I was aiming for. I bought this Food Preservation Unit because it takes up very little counter space. Now, when I open the bag of celery or brown sugar, for instance, I can immediately reseal it with very little effort.

The two containers that come with it make the the actual unit free, if you check the prices for them. I had considered buying more, until I saw their prices. The bags aren't exactly cheap, but they are far more reasonable. They are easy to clean. I am using them in the freezer, with mixed results. Sometimes they stay vacuumed, sometimes, not. I am not wrapping meats in plastic first, just in case! Does make cleaning a tad easier.

My only complaint about this unit is that is only shuts off automatically when using the hard plastic containers. You need to determine when to shut it off manually with the bags. I know to listen for the change in sound, as well as visually check the bag. My regular unit (the one with the hose for canisters that also works with a small attachment for zipper bags) shuts down on its own, however is not anywhere as fast to complete the vacuum.

I use this several times a week and have no complaints. Oh - the lid on the container is very hard to remove the first time or two. Make sure you have it seated correctly when vacuuming or the red light will come on to tell you it is taking too long - check your seal!

The containers are easy to seal, the problem is trying to get them open. I like the ziplock bags, however, the bags are difficult to get fully sealed and if they aren’t fully sealed they don’t work. I do admit to not having full strength in my hands, making me expect a little difficulty but it’s more than I expected. To open a container requires me to use a screwdriver and the bags usually take at least 4 passes.

Probably the most important thing is that they work for freshness.
